Does anyone here use Octopus Energy? Would you recommend?

Just off phone with Eon, our current supplier, who want to raise our DD substantially despite the fact that we are £150 in credit.

Am thinking of moving suppliers and wondering about Octopus - does anyone have them?

They are excellent, their tech interface is good, billing regular and customer service superb. Would highly recommend them.

Seymour5 · 22/08/2025 13:19

Me too. Been happy with them so far 👍🏽

Wowzel · 22/08/2025 13:19

Yes, so far so good

Yes, I've been with them since Bulb went under.
I'm happy with them - they did put my direct debit up, but the app lets you change the amount (within reason obviously).

Octopus have a referral scheme so if you join via an existing customer's referral link, both you and the referring customer get a one-time £50 off their bill.
Feel free to PM me if you'd like my referral link.

No issues with Octopus.
I would say that unless you’re only getting very low energy bills, you would be better upping your DDs asap. Otherwise you’re likely to fall in arrears by Christmas.

CaspersMum24 · 22/08/2025 13:24

I would recommend Octopus too.

Chasingsquirrels · 22/08/2025 13:40

I've been with them for several years, have been perfectly happy - but tbh I've never had a bad experience with an energy supplier.

I've recently been looking to move, as Eon have slightly better EV & solar export rates - but you have to claim the solar export payment once a year whereas Octopus just offset against your monthly bill, so I'm sticking with Octopus atm.

Another recommendation here. Reasonable prices, the app is easy to use, they are quick to answer the phone if needed. And if you have a smart meter there's quite often an hour of free electric.

the80sweregreat · 22/08/2025 13:50

I’m with Octopus and they seem fine.
I do gas and electricity readings monthly , they email me the next day and let me know if it’s going up or down or whatever.
They answer the phone within 10 mins or so and generally pretty good all round especially with emails or any queries.

Haggisfish3 · 22/08/2025 13:51

Im with them and also would recommend

HostaCentral · 22/08/2025 13:53

I've had no issues with them. Their online account is very flexible and easy to use. I have changed payments and got refunds automatically.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 22/08/2025 13:55

Wow a universal MN thread 😁

@Soontobe60 generally I would agree, but they are modelling an assumption of what we will use based on what we used last year. But it isn't comparable because we had a fault last winter that resulted in us using a lot more power over Xmas 24, plus we have replaced 2 old appliances with the most energy efficient models we could find.

100% happy to pay for what I use, but they want to increase our DD from under £150 to £193 pm based not on what we are using but their projections of what we will use.

Absolutely not.

Currently involved in an Energy Ombudsman dispute with them over insane double billing and random direct debit changes without any communication. We are now down to the tune of over a thousand pounds.

Their customer service has been appalling.

There is a FB forum dedicated to people with similar experiences and a stack of ombudsman decisions against them.

If you advanced search on here others have also had multiple issues around billing.

Be very, very careful.

I'm nearly 50 and have never ever dealt with a situation like this in my whole adult, bill paying life.

Motnight · 22/08/2025 13:57

I've been with them since Shell Energy ended. Great app, easy to use. They do try and up my direct debit every month for some reason (we are always in credit with them) but I just bring it back down to the amount that I want to pay at the same time as I enter my meter readings.

LillyPJ · 22/08/2025 13:57

I've got Octopus and have no complaints. Very straightforward. Website is informative and easy to use to manage bills, and see usage. I can also get a free coffee every week if I want!

Returnofjude · 22/08/2025 13:58

Hell yes I recommend!!

example - mix up with my gas check up i had arranged through them. Bit of a palaver. So I said I’d like to use my own, and they said “sure just send us the payment receipt and we will refund”. I duly did. 10 mins later “the refund has been processed”

superb

if you use this link we both get £50!

They do refunds if your in credit.

Isobel201 · 22/08/2025 14:21

yes they transferred me over from Shell energy, no complaints so far.

SilenceInside · 22/08/2025 14:22

Yes, used for several years now, no issues. We have solar panels, so we have an outgoing tariff with them, as well as gas and electricity. They have been the least hassle of any energy company I have used to date.

MaryMungoMidgley · 22/08/2025 14:24

They're just as expensive as all the other thieving bastard energy companies though aren't they🤬🤬🤬

Ihatemondays1962 · 22/08/2025 14:24

I'd recommend them too. Been with them for years with no issues

Onthebusses · 22/08/2025 14:32

I like Octopus but I don't use DDs. I always cancel them and then set up an standing order, which I control how much goes out ever time. So you could just do that. I make up for my debt during winter. I pay 150/month to Octopus which covers me for the year.

RentRaft · 22/08/2025 14:44

Until they take it all overnight!

Huh?

Campingisnexttogodliness · 22/08/2025 14:49

Never had a dd these past few years. Just pay an amount monthly. Back at our old address I paid weekly. Big house and stupid bills... Best customer service in my experience.. Though never won more than a quid on the free spins!!
