PIVOT!
He's not the messiah, he's a very naughty boy
Poh-tay-toes (from lord of the rings)
To me - to you - to me -to you

All have drawn blank stares from my 20yr old students. I'm 37.

DD (11) uses “Po-Tay-Toes” on a regular basis. She’s also known to refer to people she doesn’t like (aka her younger brother!) as “Stupid fat hobbitses”

Spike Milligan used to say that they got complaints about the jokes in The Goon Show from little old ladies and he loved pointing out to them that if they got the joke then they obviously had filthy minds too!

Not a Spike original. When Samuel Johnson's first dictionary of English was published, some ladies complimented him on leaving out a couple of very rude words and he replied on the lines of 'been looking, have you?'

gillefc82 · 22/08/2025 18:38

Curry IIRC even in the 50s.

Yes, always on a Monday. My mum used to add a bit of curry powder to the remains of the Sunday joint and cook it through, and add some rice, and that was my dad's dinner.

'We're the Sweeney and we haven't had any dinner.'

'It's funny how their missis always looks the bleedin' same' when seeing on the news the accused and his supporters arriving at court.

My endless Blackadder quotes.

I work with someone in her 30s who didn’t know who Duran Duran were. I slightly died that day.

I thought l was old when Duran Duran were at the height of their fame and l had to explain where the name came from !!
