How many hrs have you been without food when you eat breakfast?

IDreamOfElectricSheep · 22/08/2025 09:05

I was listening to a podcast and heard that you should have gone 12 hrs at least ideally between eating the evening before and breakfast.
I know lots of people do intermittent fasting as well, so they might be going for longer.
I wanted breakfast this morning and realised I’d only gone 8 hrs (summer holiday mode)
Just nosey and interested in what others do.

Does having milk in coffee count?

Yes, it breaks the fast.

henlake7 · 22/08/2025 11:50

Usually about 13 hrs from evening snacks to first cup of coffee.
Although actual breakfast can be longer. Yesterday was 18 hrs between meals which I do a few times a week.

crochetandshit · 22/08/2025 11:53

Usually around 20 hours. I do IF though.

mindutopia · 22/08/2025 11:54

12-14 hours. We eat dinner by 7:30-8:30pm and I usually have breakfast 8:30-9:30pm.

I take medication that requires fasting every 12 hours, so can’t eat after 8:30pm or 9:30am at the very latest, which means I have very set eating times and at least a 12 hour fast in between. I don’t ever snack in the evening or mid morning, because I can’t.

Electrotrinco · 22/08/2025 12:10

It’s a bummer that a bit of milk in coffee counts -
otherwise I could go 16/17 hours

ninjahamster · 22/08/2025 12:16

About 15 for me.

dizzydizzydizzy · 22/08/2025 12:24

Was that one of the Zoe study podcasts?

I heard about this from them. They said it was very goof for your gut microbiome which seems to be very important to many aspects of health .

I have my last meal of the day around 5pm and breakfast around 7:30 or 8am.

The Zoe study is amazing!

Usually 15 at the least. Finish eating by 6.30pm and have breakfast while working 9.30- 11.00 ish. Then lunch at 2, if u have breakfast and lunch earlier I start craving unhealthy snacks at 3-4pm.

aintnospringchicken · 22/08/2025 12:29

13-14 hours

CharSiu · 22/08/2025 12:47

Usually eat between 6pm and 7pm and have my next food around 10am next day.

Statsquestion1 · 22/08/2025 12:55

I have dinner at 6ish and breakfast at 9ish so 15hours

Ariela · 22/08/2025 12:59

12+, and an hour's early morning swim in there too. Well in need of my porridge by then.

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 22/08/2025 13:11

I don't do breakfast so it's usually about 15 - 18 hours by the time I get round to lunch, depending on whether I've snaked on anything after dinner the night before.

SquigglePigs · 22/08/2025 14:06

Between 12 and 15 hrs.

Depending on the evening we either eat about 6/6.30pm with DD or 8.30 ish after she's asleep. I usually have breakfast about 9am ish.

DH would be 11-13 hrs as he has an earlier breakfast around 7.30am.

FlatErica · 22/08/2025 14:19

I don’t have eat until c.11:00 and I stop eating at about 19:00 so that’s about… 16 hours.

By “snaked on anything” do you mean you eat a large rodent and sort of force it down your neck?

😂😂😂

Bloody typos. I did of course mean snacked, but oddly enough DP did once compare me to a snake swallowing an antelope and then not eating for 3 weeks in a nature doc in reference to my ability to not eat anything all day and then realise how spectacularly hungry I am at dinner time.

Wonderwall23 · 22/08/2025 14:39

I eat dinner at 5pm and breakfast at about 7.30am, so 15 hours between proper meals but sometimes I'll have some chocolate at about 8.30, so that's only 11.

I'm naturally very slim and don't subscribe to any diets/low carb ideas/deliberate fasting etc. Having said that it would seem I'm doing the fasting thing naturally, perhaps.

I eat breakfast at 7.30, lunch by 12pm and dinner by 5pm and am always hungry for meals. The reason I don't eat much in the evenings is because I like to settle in bed early...and also can't sleep feeling full.

MonsterMamaJam · 22/08/2025 14:44

16ish

PinkZebraStripes · 22/08/2025 18:25

Radiatorvalves · 22/08/2025 10:30

Same.

OK. Maybe we are not different 😂.

TheCurious0range · 22/08/2025 18:29

We have dinner around 6 in term time ,7 in the holidays, I take medication in the morning and can't eat for 90 minutes after, so end up taking breakfast to work, so usually eat that around 10 by the time I'm in started working etc and can grab 5 minutes to eat some yoghurt and fruit. So I've usually gone about 15-16 hours and that's not deliberate fasting. We try to eat with DS hence the early dinner time and I can't eat first thing because of meds

CharlotteCChapel · 22/08/2025 18:30

Normally 13 to 14 hours ,

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 22/08/2025 18:30

I don’t eat breakfast, so I go about 16 hours between when I eat in the evening, and lunch the next day - we do eat fairly late in the evening.

GarlicLitre · 22/08/2025 18:38

I wake up starving these days, so it's rarely more than 9 hours. I eat something before bed, too. I used not to eat breakfast - but, then, I used to drink like a fish so was getting plenty of pre-bed calories!

I really don't care about ever-changing theories like 'intermittent fasting'. I eat when I need to, as much as I need. I did have to train myself to get back in touch with my natural appetite. I did this after kicking anorexia, which is why I'm opposed to diets and rules. My weight's in my 'healthy' range and it stays the same.

Arlanymor · 22/08/2025 18:47

16 - last food at 8pm, the break fast (literally) at around midday. Although currently am fasting to get rid of stubborn perimenopause rubber ring... so east between 4pm and 8pm on weekdays, with the weekends off.
