How many hrs have you been without food when you eat breakfast?

I was listening to a podcast and heard that you should have gone 12 hrs at least ideally between eating the evening before and breakfast.
I know lots of people do intermittent fasting as well, so they might be going for longer.
I wanted breakfast this morning and realised I’d only gone 8 hrs (summer holiday mode)
Just nosey and interested in what others do.

14 to 15 hours . 7.30 to 10.30 on average

Zempy · 22/08/2025 09:27

About 12 hours.

EverardDeTroyes · 22/08/2025 09:28

13 or 14 hours. 7pm to 8-9am.

PineconesandConkers · 22/08/2025 09:28

About 13 hours
Dinner at roughly 6pm and breakfast around 7am.

Honeypizza · 22/08/2025 09:28

About 13-14 hours on average. My breakfast is usually very small.

ScarlettSunset · 22/08/2025 09:29

Usually about 12. I tend to eat my dinner somewhere between 6pm and 7.30pm and then I have breakfast about 7.30am.
It gets thrown out of sync when I'm not working though (like today) as I get up later.

IMissSparkling · 22/08/2025 09:30

No more than 9. I always have a snack before I go to bed.

WonsWoo · 22/08/2025 09:31

I find if I only eat when I’m hungry then it fluctuates. I generally don’t eat after about 7.30pm. Sometimes I am ravenous when I wake up at 7am and sometimes I’m not hungry until 11am.

About 13-14 hours

MikeRafone · 22/08/2025 09:34

I usually have tea around 6pm

i cant have breakfast for 30 minutes after taking tablets, so I usually leave breakfast until 10am

unless I’m cycling for over 20 miles - then I have to stuff breakfast down, usually porridge works best

No, I'm in my mid fifties and despite perimenopause and an underactive thyroid, I've never been overweight.

That’s interesting, thanks.

ReignOfError · 22/08/2025 09:34

Anywhere between 12 and 15, occasionally an hour less or more.

DeirdreChambersWhatACoincidence · 22/08/2025 09:37

16-17 hours: 6pm to either 9 or 10am.

PinkZebraStripes · 22/08/2025 09:37

Everyone is different.

I have dinner around 8 and eat around 7.30 in the morning. I don't snack in the evenings after dinner ever.

Theextraordinaryisintheordinary · 22/08/2025 09:40

17/18

TheChosenTwo · 22/08/2025 09:43

Normally eat my dinner around 9pm and don’t eat again until 1pm the following day.
at the weekends I may have a brunch at 11am but I’ve never eaten breakfast, just can’t stomach food before for a long time after waking up, I’ve always been like this.

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 22/08/2025 09:45

20.00 to 10.00ish, so 14.
Not fasting, just lifestyle.

Mauro711 · 22/08/2025 09:47

15-16 hours between dinner and breakfast here and no snacks after dinner. I'm mid-40s and have never been overweight.

HurdyGurdy19 · 22/08/2025 09:48

Depending on how organised I am at cooking the evening meal, we can eat anywhere between 6.30 and 8.30pm.

I have never been a breakfast person, so normally have my first food/meal of the day at around 11.30 to noon.

So about 16 hours, give or take?

spoonbillstretford · 22/08/2025 09:49

Yesterday I ate dinner early so it would have been 15/16 hours. I think the minimum is 12 hours for me usually. If I have a later dinner I often don't eat breakfast, just have some coffee and eat at midday ish. Sometmes I just have a protein shake or yogurt to keep me going.

3peassuit · 22/08/2025 09:50

Around 14/15 hours. I don’t snack after dinner and tend not to eat breakfast till after 8 in the morning.

Summershutdown · 22/08/2025 09:51

I tend to eat my dinner around 6pm and then I don't really snack ( unless I'm really hungry ) and then breakfast can be anything between 10am - 12pm.

I try to stick to two meals a day with minimal snacking.

butterfly0404 · 22/08/2025 09:51

I dont eat breakfast, first meal (usually a protein/collagen shake and a boiled egg) is at midday, having not eaten since dinner around 6.30pm the night before. Ive never eaten early in the morning, it makes me feel sick.

No more than 9. I always have a snack before I go to bed.

Me too. I've been advised to do this to help keep migraines at bay. Too long without food can exacerbate them apparently. I need more stable blood sugar.
