What’s the most batshit thing your DIL has said or done recently?

Mine came to lunch on Sunday and expected me to cook her a separate vegetarian meal.

OP posts:
LindorDoubleChoc · 21/08/2025 16:55

Mine wouldn't let me hold her newborn baby and didn't seem to appreciate it when I suggested giving him a bit of baby rice in his bottle to help him sleep. Talk about disrespect! I'm his grandmother 😡

Not a reverse exactly. But interesting that everybody immediately leaped to my dil’s defence, which they would certainly not if I had said it was my mil who expected a vegetarian meal!

Bit of a weird assumption.

Fucking hell @CurlewKatecan you just say what you mean?

Maybe it’s a complicated narrative.

I know it’s hard to accept that your little boy loves a woman other than his mummy, but it’s time to let go

Yeah and my MIL would have been nice enough knowing I was vegan to have tried to cater for that.

YABU.

InSpainTheRain · 21/08/2025 18:03

I've read the thread and I'm not 100% sure who is the vegetarian, but if I invited someone for dinner I'd check what they can eat and cook accordingly. When my MIL comes who is vegetarian I don't cook a special meal just for her - I do make a vegetarian meal for all of us as I think it's more inclusive, just as tasty and frankly easier for me (as cook).

On the seeing the grandma thing - 4 months is plenty notice. Kindly, perhaps she thinks she may pass away and wants to see her at Xmas, which would be entirely natural and of course lovely if it can be arranged.

I don’t really understand the rice bit, but not letting you hold your grandchild sounds heartbreaking. I couldn’t wait to let my parents and my PILs have a cuddle, it’s one of my favourite memories. I hope things have improved - I hope she let the father hold the baby!!!

BustyLaRoux · 21/08/2025 18:05

I don’t understand!

Is the OP the DIL or the MIL or the host? Is this an attempt at humour? I get confused about reverses!!!!

EasternSkies · 21/08/2025 18:07

What else don’t you like about her because there is definitely more to this story

Someone2025 · 21/08/2025 18:13

CurlewKate · 21/08/2025 12:58

No “She should have brought her own food” or “she should have just eaten the vegetables” or “what a CF to expect special treatment” or “she should just eat what’s put in front of her” or “don’t pander to her entitlement”? What if I tell you she asked if we could change our Christmas plans slightly so she could see her grandmother? After all she’s only given us 4 months notice….

You are ridiculous!, you can’t even see sense….your poor DIL and how CF of her to ask you to move out the Christmas dinner by a small bit so she could see her grandmother….what a bitch

amyds2104 · 21/08/2025 18:15

Yes I’m well confused… if you have a guest you surely cater for them? Especially something simple like being a vegetarian 🤣 not exactly a challenge nowadays.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 21/08/2025 18:16

When my son's girlfriend eats with us, I cook a vegetarian meal for all of us to share. We can eat meat at every other meal if we want to, but I like her and I'm not a performative douchebag trying to make some kind of weird point.

Totally agree.

averylongtimeago · 21/08/2025 18:19

My Dil buys me thoughtful gifts for Christmas and birthdays without asking me what I want- the cow!

RitaFires · 21/08/2025 18:21

Reverses never work because the person writing them never understands the motivation of the other person so they always go for the worst possible interpretation of events when the truth is probably much more in the middle.

Menonut · 21/08/2025 18:25

What?! It doesn’t matter if it was your dil, mil or the bloke from the pub, if you invite someone you know is a vegetarian to your house then you cater accordingly. 🤷‍♀️🤯

MrsMitford3 · 21/08/2025 18:28

Think this thread in response to the MIL bashing thread...

Exactly. My son’s girlfriend is coming to stay for a few days next week. We’ve only met her once before, she’s a veggie.
I’m buying quorn and checking with my son what she likes. We’ll all eat veggie for a few days, it won’t kill us. I’ll do one meal, I expect they’ll cook one night and we’ll get a takeaway another and everyone can order what they want. Simple.

But if you invite someone for lunch you have to provide something they eat. It’s not hard to cook a meat free meal . Not like cooking for someone on a very restrictive diet.

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 21/08/2025 18:29

I have two daughters in law and they have been part of the family some time now. The craziest thing either/both of them have is married one of my sons and willingly become part of our family.

Any vegetarian guest you invited should be catered for... the relation doesn't matter its just basic fucking hosting.

They also never work because half of the people responding don't realise that they're replying to a reverse.
