What’s the most batshit thing your DIL has said or done recently?

Mine came to lunch on Sunday and expected me to cook her a separate vegetarian meal.

Everyone @CurlewKate is obviously joking!

No “She should have brought her own food” or “she should have just eaten the vegetables” or “what a CF to expect special treatment” or “she should just eat what’s put in front of her” or “don’t pander to her entitlement”? What if I tell you she asked if we could change our Christmas plans slightly so she could see her grandmother? After all she’s only given us 4 months notice….

😀

Clearly the correct response is that your DIL is a total maniac who expects the world to cater to her cow-loving whims. And that you should cancel Christmas altogether for fear that she, and her granny, take over.

GypsyQueeen · 21/08/2025 13:17

She sounds awful. You should have tied her to the chair and shoved half a cow 🐄 down her throat.

KittytheHare · 21/08/2025 13:22

Reverse threads are so tedious.

EchoedSilence · 21/08/2025 13:22

All DiLs are like that. Demanding. toxic and entitled, the lot of them.

Or save all your ire till Christmas and shove one of those quail in a duck in a pheasant in a goose in a turkey down her throat?

EchoedSilence · 21/08/2025 13:26

My DiL WhatApps me pictures of her cat. I think she's a narc.

GinsBond · 21/08/2025 13:29

Most insane thing DIL had done recently .... started a random incoherent reverse thread on Mumsnet to get people to bash her MIL?

lnks · 21/08/2025 14:02

Reverse threads are so tedious. Posters take the time to reply to the OP in good faith, only to find out it was a waste of time because it’s a reverse.

NoMoreHotHols · 21/08/2025 14:06

When I was a veggie and visited in-laws I always asked if I should take my own veggie alternative and would have been happy to eat the sides. My MIL did cook a separate vegetarian roast usually but I really didn’t want to inconvenience her for just one person.

OneNiftyOtter · 21/08/2025 14:12

I recognise the username here and definitely more to this…

Nessiesfoodprovider · 21/08/2025 14:17

As well as feeding the Loch Ness monster, our family has a vegan and vegetarians, as well as omnivores, and someone with egg allergies. It's perfectly normal for us to do three different mains and to have vegan friendly sides for everyone. Aquafaba is my best friend!

Tell me you despise your DIL without telling me you despise your DIL 😅

Exactly, the OP sounds like one of those bitch MILs

CurlewKate · 21/08/2025 12:27

You invited her to dinner, you were the host and you should have provided the food

Purplecatshopaholic · 21/08/2025 14:36

I’m assuming you are trying to be funny….?

DustyMaiden · 21/08/2025 14:39

She is obsessed with dinosaurs. But she is lovely. I’m so glad DS found her.

Laiste · 21/08/2025 14:41

I think this is meant to be light hearted everyone 😀

An alternative way to present MIL problems 'differences of opinion within the family group'.

Yes a sort of reverse but a funny and obvious one i thought.

Squirrelintree · 21/08/2025 15:27

This has got to be a wind up. unless it's a one pot dish, it's very easy to cater for meat-eaters and vegetarians at the same table. Also, it's not necessary, or even that healthy, for every meal to include meat or fish even for those of us who do eat them.

Account734 · 21/08/2025 15:49

Batshit MIL.

LoveSandbanks · 21/08/2025 16:23

This is why I'd never allow my MIL to cook for me! I have a severe gluten allergy, if MIL's can't even accommodate a vegetarian how the fuck will they navigate an allergy? I can't eat anything with wheat, oats or barley (unless the oats are certified gluten free). I can't have soy sauce, malt vinegar, most stock cubes etc. I can't even eat blue cheese! Who knew that blue cheese wasn't gluten free???

I very much hope this is a reverse, and your MIL is an absolute bitch rather than some cow actually thinking that not providing food that their guest can eat at a lunch in their own home would EVER be an acceptable way to host! Are vegetarians expected to eat meat just to please their arsehole MILs?

CurlewKate · 21/08/2025 16:37

Not a reverse exactly. But interesting that everybody immediately leaped to my dil’s defence, which they would certainly not if I had said it was my mil who expected a vegetarian meal!
