Absolute Radio are asking for our top 3 Britpop songs. What are yours?
Mine are (in reverse order):
Kula Shaker - Hush
Radiohead - No Surprises
Suede - Animal Nitrate

I was a young mum in my 20s during the britpop era and listened to all of the above. All the time! Not sure I can easily pick a definitive three, but give you:

Pulp - Sorted for Es and Whizz
Portishead - Glory Box
Radiohead - Street Spirit

Ask me tomorrow and I’d probably give you three completely different answers!

Smallgnomethingy · 10/08/2025 08:57

Love this thread. Happy memories. I can’t choose three but following!

Itsnottheheatitsthehumidity · 10/08/2025 08:58

Can you dig it? Mock Turtles
There She Goes The La's
Champagne Supernova Oasis

This was my era of music, I could say many, many more.

RedRec · 10/08/2025 08:58

Cast - Walkaway (probably my all time favourite song)
Oasis - Live Forever
Blur - Tender

Shipshape1 · 10/08/2025 09:08

Suede - Trash
Ocean Colour Scene - The Circle
Pulp - Mile End

Clingfilm · 10/08/2025 09:17

What a thread, flashback to my glory days! I think I bought everything mentioned so far (expensive hobby, unlike the kids of today and their one click Spotify, pah ..)

Impossible to pick 3 but Animal Nitrate by Suede would definitely be in it. Proustian feels every time I hear it.

CrepuscularCritter · 10/08/2025 09:18

Spacehog - In the meantime
Dodgy - Staying out for the summer
Wonderstuff - Size of a cow

curliegirlie · 10/08/2025 09:42

And the entire Trainspotting soundtrack of course!

Are The Stone Roses too early?

I am the Resurrection - Stone Roses
Live Forever - Oasis
Yes - McAlmont & Butler

I would say yes they are too early and part of Madchester/Baggy rather than Britpop but that’s just my opinion

StoorieHoose · 11/08/2025 19:27

Can throughly recommend The Rise and Fall of Indie Sleaze podcast with Steve Lamacq and Jo Whitley

realsavagelike · 11/08/2025 19:32

So many of these are not Britpop. It especially hurts my heart to see Lush and James on these lists! I fear we need a music version of Pedants' Corner for indie music aficionados.

GasperyJacquesRoberts · 11/08/2025 19:36

Lush started off much more shoegaze/dreampop but by the time they did Ladykillers they were firmly britpop.

EmiliaRuusuvuori · 11/08/2025 19:43

Cast Walk away
Pulp Do you remember the first time
Ash Angel Interceptor
It's really hard to pick three, it was a great time for music.

curliegirlie · 16/08/2025 09:08

@EmiliaRuusuvuorithanks for reminding me of Angel Interceptor - I haven’t heard that for years (despite 1977 being one of my fave albums back in the day).

I love Do you Remember the First Time, but F.E.E.L.I.N.G C.A.L.L.E.D L.O.V.E deserves an honourable mention. I feel a bit sad that Pulp’s new single You Gotta Have Love probably means they won’t be playing it live for a while, which is a pity, as it’s clearly the superior song!

Forgot Shed Seven - chasing rainbows
Menswear - Daydreamer (they were shite but that one was a banger)
longpigs - she said

Daydreamer and Stardust were the only Menswear songs worth bothering with...

It is a brilliant album.
It's hard to pick a favourite Pulp song as they had so many great ones.

Agreed! Incidentally, I saw them at Green Man festival in 2016 and about halfway through Miki Berenyi said 'this is our Britpop section!' and launched into Ladykillers. They were awesome (I would've loved them to include Heavenly Nobodies in their set as I love that too but you can't have everything!)

mum2jakie · 19/08/2025 20:12

The Day We Caught The Train - Ocean Colour Scene
Delicious - Sleeper
Connection- Elastica
King of the Kerb - Echobelly

Such a great time for music!
