TimeForSomething · 07/08/2025 22:55

Dandy Warhols… Garbage… Elastica… Sleeper

Joolsin · 08/08/2025 00:47

For me, that era all started with Stone Roses Fool's Gold. I remember being in a nightclub and hearing the intro - race to the dancefloor - it was so different, so new and such a groove!

GrooveArmada · 08/08/2025 00:51

Pulp - Common People
Oasis - Live Forever
Stereophonics - Maybe Tomorrow

GrooveArmada · 08/08/2025 00:51

But yeah, Stone Roses overall the best for sure, agree with PP!

NCNC4 · 08/08/2025 01:10

Great thread! Gonna spend some time revisiting some of these on YouTube. Here are just a few I love…

Kula Shaker - Hey Dude
Elastica - Connection
Gene - Fighting Fit

I LOVE Size of a Cow! Also Mansun Wide Open Space

I was a massive fan of Garbage too, I loved their first 2 albums

Popped into the co-op the other day and they were playing Garbage. Highlight of my day 😄
My DH is younger than me and had never heard of Garbage when we met 😱

SinisterBumFacedCat · 08/08/2025 01:22

Pulp - Do you remember the first time
Mansun - Wide Open Space
Suede - Beautiful Ones

this is a bit like trying to pick a favourite child

SisterTeatime · 08/08/2025 01:26

Blur - Country House remains a favourite of mine. So many good songs.
Suede - Animal Nitrate. Still remember hearing it on the radio for the first time and being blown away by it.
Elastica - Connection

Loved the Stone Roses, Happy Mondays
and Charlatans but think of them as different from Britpop (Madchester)

LunaDeBallona · 08/08/2025 01:33

I’m only happy when it rains - Garbage
Some might Say - Oasis
Going for Gold - Shed Seven

Creep - Radiohead has to get a mention
Bittersweet Symphony- The Verve ( Just saw R Ashcroft open for Oasis and he was very good).
Yes by McAlmont & Butler is my all time fave song.
Suede - Trash & Animal Nitrate are both fabulous

Im going to check this thread tomorrow night & make a playlist on Apple for my holidays!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 07/08/2025 11:13

Lush - Ladykillers
James - Laid
Suede - Trash

Any and all Pulp - saw them live earlier in the summer and they were amazing. On Ash, Tim Wheeler randomly popped up on my TikTok FYP the other day and said it was on that day 30 years ago they released Girl From Mars, and played an acoustic version of it. I felt simultaneously a teenager and a thousand years old!

Nailed it, I would have picked these three too!

Great thread

Oh yes. Animal Nitrate I think is in a class of its own. I think it started my love for Britpop. I saw Suede 2 years ago & they're still fantastic

where are my Shine compilation gals?!

Best series of compilations in the 90s. I’ve still got one of them on my iTunes (shine 7 I think)
getting ready for a night out soundtrack every Friday night after watching TFI Friday

Im with you with Tender. It is one of my all time favourites.
also James and Laid
and Oasis and Champagne Supernova. I also love the one that ended up being the theme to the Royle Family.

Love britpop. The 90’s were definitely my era musically. So many memories of Uni

Totally. Was an amazing time, I was 16 and finally found my people. Saw them at Glasgow Green in 1990, happy days!

I'd say so. Skunk Anansie.

Skunk Anansie/Skin were way too rock, cool and sexy to be Britpop IMO! Great choice though.
Cerys Mathews/Catatonia - love Road Rage if they're Britpop, not sure they are either.
Love Portishead Glory box - but again not sure if they're Britpop.

Sorry OP, guess I'm not really a Britpop girl.

All of these are Britpop! I can't even really explain what makes a band Britpop, I just know it when I hear it! Oh and the fact that they probably appeared on my compilation albums like Shine....
