Man Falls To His Death At Wembley Oasis Concert

Just reading a thread on Redditt about this. Terrible situation. The thing that sticks with you the most is the insane amount of alcohol that was being consumed ( it hasn’t been stated that the man who fell was drunk but a lot of people were) & apparently Wembley Stadium proudly claimed they’d sold 250K pints. Not sure if that was in one night. Many concertgoers had been drinking all day & some could hardly stand up, plus the stadium floors were like ice rinks from spilt beer (it was being thrown everywhere). I don’t drink anymore but even when I did, I couldn’t get my head round why people feel the need to get absolutely steaming drunk to have a good time.

I went saw oasis there last Wednesday. Was pitch standing so didn’t experience the seats (although we were in the gods last year for Taylor Swift).

The alcohol situation was insane. The second oasis appeared on stage pints of beer started being chucked around. Someone poured a pint of beer down the back of my head, someone else down the back of my legs. Not intentionally, they were just drunk and unsteady.

A guy came back from the bar having bought 8 pints of beer and only one survived - his Dad was literally taking fully pints out of the trays and throwing them at the crowd.

We moved out of the crowd after about half an hour and had a much nicer time on the edge of the floor. Which I stuck to due to all the beer 😬

I’m really sorry to hear about the poor man dying. The atmosphere was so MALE and at times intimidating (although my partner is massive so generally I would get banged into then there would be MASSIVE apologies when they clocked my partner was with me).

complete contrast to the Eras tour which was female energy, peace and love and I honestly don’t remember anyone being drunk.

Can't understand it at that price too, and it shouldn't be allowed. God how things have gone downhill. What will they be doing in ten years tome at concerts?

I went to see Oasis at Wembley probably around 2008 and I wouldn’t go again due to the sheer amount of urine that was thrown. I’m sure some beer gets spilt but generally - it’s not beer being thrown at those prices! It was awful.

I’d expect this happened due to slippery surfaces - terribly sad.

How low can people go?

Me neither. After the man fell during the England v Croatia Euros match in 2021, Wembley Stadium’s former General Manager was quoted in an article about safe standing barriers and said that man had fallen from the upper tier at Wembley over a barrier that was 80cm high: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/oct/18/safe-standing-barriers-are-anything-but-says-former-wembley-stadium-manager

I am quite short and 80cm I doubt would keep me safe it is well below my hip bone. I can’t even imagine standing next to a barrier with a huge drop on the other side and feeling that passed any health and safety measures

Things haven’t gone down hill. Certain artists have always led to crowds that behave like this. Oasis are probably the biggest example. This isn’t young people acting like this, it is people in their 40s. The same people were prats spoiling the experience in the 90s as well. They just now take a lot of coke as well as the beer.

BadActingParsley · 07/08/2025 08:21

At the 02 watching depeche mode I couldn’t get over the number of coked up 50 somethings. Luckily seats next to us were empty so we both moved to get a one seat barrier between us and either side. It didn’t feel very safe with their behaviour and the steep rake at our seats.

@Bananachimp clearly it isn’t the point of the thread, however people have pointed out both the cost of alcohol and the amount consumed. I can point out my surprise at the numbers able to do it. I felt the same way about the Eras tour. Extraordinary money, and no shortage of people able to pay the prices.

I'm always surprised when people don't get that a COL crisis doesn't affect everyone equally/at all. And that people having less disposable income in real terms than they or their equivalents did previously isn't the same thing as not having disposable income at all. It comes up all the time.

No alcohol during (men’s at least) football. Plenty of alcohol at Twickenham/Murrayfield for the rugby though.

And never any trouble at Murrayfield despite there only ever being about 4 police officers there. When they hosted a Rangers football match they needed over 200 officers on site. At the last Calcutta cup, they took £750k over the bars across the day. Alcohol can cause problems, but it is also down to who the crowd is. They have hosted a whole load of concerts but behind the scenes, they are more concerned about the crowd for this one than they have been for any other they’ve done.

This guy’s death is tragic, and the circumstances seem a little strange. There is scant detail about what happened and police are appealing for witnesses saying “people must have seen what happened”. It also seems like they found him rather than having been alerted to it at the time. If someone falls in a crowd full of people, surely you have plenty of witnesses? Also, if it was an obvious health and safety issue and the risk remained, they wouldn’t have been able to open the following night. I do wonder if he had found his way to one of the areas where nobody was seated.

@RabbitsRock 250k pints for 90k people doesn’t seem too out of the ordinary, it averages as a few pints each, but I would agree that generally as a society the culture of getting bladdered at any event isn’t great.

Unfortunately certain artists do attract a troublesome element. My neighbour who works at an arena tells me that certain crowds are known to be trouble, so boxing/UFC is a punchfest and coke is rife. He worked Mary J Blige and said that was awful. Vomiters, fighters, etc. Peter Kay of course had people removed but in a stadium of 80k the beer and piss throwers are hard to stop. Why they throw it tho is beyond me. I'm sure if they had beer/piss thrown over them on their holiday flight or hotel it would be a different story.

Is that Wembley?

You can see how low the barrier is from the top tier to the one below in this picture.

@YesHonestly apologies those are the wrong pics and I have asked for them to be removed. I think the upwards angle of the Wembley photo makes it hard to see the height. There is though a step in the middle of the aisle which is higher and makes the barrier feel quite low in that section. I'll see if I have a better pic but here's one from 'view from my seat'. Again hard to tell.

Ahh I see!

I was at Wembley last Sunday night, two blocks across from where this happened, but as our seats were near the back I couldn’t remember seeing the rails or how high they were. That image looks like it’s from the 2 block, club Wembley? Good to see a different perspective as it really didn’t look very high from the one I posted.

Makes me wonder what the hell would happen if there was an emergency like a fire - how would they get that many people out with such dangerous walkways & everyone pushing

All the stadium concerts I've been to (Ive never been to Wembly) have had very smooth, managed and surprisingly quick exits. If you think about it, they need to get people out quickly after all events so its very well planned.

But that's when people aren't in a state of panic. With a fire, that would be different.
