Man Falls To His Death At Wembley Oasis Concert

Just reading a thread on Redditt about this. Terrible situation. The thing that sticks with you the most is the insane amount of alcohol that was being consumed ( it hasn’t been stated that the man who fell was drunk but a lot of people were) & apparently Wembley Stadium proudly claimed they’d sold 250K pints. Not sure if that was in one night. Many concertgoers had been drinking all day & some could hardly stand up, plus the stadium floors were like ice rinks from spilt beer (it was being thrown everywhere). I don’t drink anymore but even when I did, I couldn’t get my head round why people feel the need to get absolutely steaming drunk to have a good time.

I find those high stadium seats give me vertigo at the best of times . . . Can’t imagine being drunk and coping with that 😖

Bunnycat101 · 04/08/2025 14:19

I’ve been up in the top at Wembley and the O2. I didn’t find it so bad at Wembley but I remember hating where we were in the O2 and that was at least 15 years ago and have never booked as high again. I just looked back at my photos and it does look just as bad as I remembered and I am fine with heights normally.

BadActingParsley · 04/08/2025 09:51

It's awful. I felt unsafe at the O2 at a gig recently - our seats were so high up and the stairs were so steep. And there were a lot of very drunk people....

Me too! At the gorgeous Pulp gig. People were constantly up and down buying drinks (errrr haven’t you come to watch Pulp?).
we then witnessed a flight between two of the SECURITY staff!!

but yeah it’s a bugbear of mine that audiences seem more focussed on the booze than the performance. And that venues obv encourage this to make more money

Loads of people there wouldn't even be old enough to drink, people were taking their children. So you're talking about the average adult person probably having four beers over two hours, even three beers in two hours is enough to be drunk though. And that wouldn't have been the first beer of the night likely.

Oh. My. God. 😱😱😱😱😱 grown adults having four or five pints! No way!!

That’s really not a lot, especially at an event. You’re talking probably 75k there drinking. Also, Wembley for 4 for £X (I think it’s £12?), so some of them won’t have been consumed.

Maybe for some people but not most in my experience. I don’t really drink beer as it’s too bloating but I could easily have 5 drinks at the equivalent units and not be drunk. Tipsy maybe.

And apparently most of them were lobbed into the crowd. Either people were all covered in beer or they were all staggering drunk, both can’t really true. 😂

Exactly. Can’t really believe them being lobbed into the crowd when you need to mortgage a small family home to buy a pint at Wembley!

I'd bet anything that's not beer being lobbed into the crowd. Not at their prices!! 🤢🤢🤢

I was at Wembley last night, block 514 and I believe this happened in block 511, so it would have been at the same height as ours. The steps are steep, but the barrier at the bottom of them would prevent someone going over I think. I would imagine the fall is from a seated row rather than falling down the stairs.

What did strike me was how little room you have when you’re standing up there, I’m a size 6 and my feet filled the gap. If you are dancing and jumping around I imagine it would be easy to fall into the rows in front of you, however the accident happened as Oasis were leaving the stage so it could be that the man fell while trying to leave the stadium, the crowds were huge and everyone was pushing. We stood back and waited to leave. I know a lot of people were rushing for the tube station before it got too busy.

It’s extremely sad, just a fan having the time of his life no doubt. I do think there’s an argument for the top tiers being closed for major gigs. I doubt it will happen though.

Maddy70 · 04/08/2025 15:04

I have been to a couple of concerts there and you feel so unsafe higher up , added to that the jumping round/dancing is a recipe for disaster. The seats in front of you are not high enough. I'm really short and felt unbalanced when standing a larger man is at more risk.
Poor man and his family all out to have one of the best nights of their lives and ended up the worst.
What I can't fathom is how people didn't notice?

Im in loads of the oasis groups and everyone was buzzing about how amazing it was surely they would have to stop the show?
But all seemed to go as planned with people having fun ?
I'm puzzled TBh

It happened when everyone was leaving apparently.

The top tiers really are not that bad. I was last at Wembley as a 25 stone person and had room!!

Were you there or are you relying on online tattle for your info?

I was there.

I can’t comment on why the poor man fell. It was dreadful.

your points in turn:

  • Many concertgoers had been drinking all day - some had been perhaps but I didn’t see anyone very drunk. There was also free drinking water amply available
  • some could hardly stand up - I didn’t see one person like this, everyone was upright and happy.
  • plus the stadium floors were like ice rinks from spilt beer - a bit slippy at the end when everyone was bouncing about. But not slippy for those just walking around. There was a spill on the stairs and the staff quickly mopped it up and warned us so we avoided those steps.
  • (it was being thrown everywhere). - nope, some was thrown, I was maybe splatted 3 times in many hours and it was a light trickle not a deluge.
  • I couldn’t get my head round why people feel the need to get absolutely steaming drunk to have a good time - everyone is different. Again, not that many people were ‘steaming drunk’ but everyone did seem to have a very good time.

I was at the Oasis concert last night, lots of people absolutely wasted. One kept getting escorted back to his seat as he kept running up and down the stairs next to us dancing.
we bought two programmes and put them underneath our seats in a bag, they got soaking wet from people behind us who spilt so much beer.
The floors where wet everywhere I did see lots of mopping going on but still soaked.

mydogisthebest · 04/08/2025 15:23

I can't understand why some people feel the need to drink so much at events. They pay all that money for tickets and then just get drunk. Plus they likely miss quite a bit with their trips to the loo.

Even at Wimbledon now people can't seem to watch without drinking and, of course, going in and out.

luckylavender · 04/08/2025 15:29

Ohthatsmeback · 04/08/2025 10:04

Absolutely horrendous news.

Tbh there was a thread last year where Oasis concerts were discussed and quite a few pp talked about how a lot of the drinkers piss into their glasses and then throw them at people. I think this happens at other gigs but Oasis concerts are particularly bad. So for that reason alone I wouldnt want to go to one.

At Heaton Park, people were pissing into small wine bottles and throwing those about. So dangerous

I know you aren’t the only person to mention this, but I don’t understand why anyone would either feel the need to piss into containers and throw it, or go to a concert where this is apparently expected and normal behaviour.

There really isn’t much room between you and the row in front of you when you’re standing up and dancing/jumping around.

I’m glad you felt you had enough room, but I didn’t feel that way.

It’s been going on for decades. Loads of people threw bottles of urine at Daphne and Celeste at Reading and Mel C at V. Well, I say people, I mean drunken idiot men.

Edit: for typo

Totally agree, I was there on Wednesday and had a similar experience to you.

Yes there were some drunk people, especially by the end of the night, but it was all good natured and I didn't see any fights. Overall people were just so excited and happy to be there, it was a joyous atmosphere.

We were in the upper tier, but the lower end of it close to where you walk in. It was ok but I felt a bit nervous at first. I wouldn't have loved being any higher than we were.

OneShyPinkStork · 04/08/2025 15:53

A man in his 40s died after falling from a balcony during an Oasis concert at Wembley Stadium in London. Paramedics and police responded quickly, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The band said they were shocked and saddened, and police are asking witnesses to come forward.

I very rarely go to gigs but was desperate to see Pulp. To be honest, other people being cunts ruined it a bit for me, I had to keep moving my feet or they would have stuck to the floor.

@BlueyNeedsToFuckOff- you probably didn’t see the queue for the loos nor the state of them.

Sladuf1 · 04/08/2025 16:48

This is so tragic. I saw posts on Reddit earlier from people who witnessed this very sad incident or the aftermath. I feel sorry for them as I do this poor man, his family and friends.

I’ve seen people stumble while trying to get to their seats/leave at the end walking up and down stairs and people falling into the row below when they’ve been enjoying themselves. This has happened when I’ve been sat in lower tier blocks at arenas/stadiums. It’s sadly not difficult to envisage how this poor man’s death could have occurred. A man fell at Wembley from block 508 into block 208 (20 ft) during the England v Croatia match for the 2020 Euros: he survived with a broken pelvis, femur and 2 ankles.

Another person on Reddit, who said they were at the same concert, saw a separate incident with a woman in the row above stumble and fall into the row below: “I was at 505 and women above us fell between us and ended up in the row under. She was so lucky.”

I sadly think there are going to be some contributory factors identified. I’ve just read another account from someone who said they were at yesterday’s concert and saw another near-miss: “one guy fell down through the rows of seats and missed injuring a pregnant woman by millimetres.”

There seems to recurring similar descriptions on Reddit of other people’s experiences, with slippery floors being especially common.

I’ve read several similar experiences from people who were there last night on Reddit including someone who said they alerted a steward to a drunk man stumbling near the top of stairs: maybe it was the same person you saw?

Another person there last night commented, “between the drinks spilled and a lot of VERY drunk people (in our sector at least 5 people were escorted away as could not stand on their feet…”
In my 30+ years’ experience of regularly going to concerts, for someone to have noticed that many people visibly intoxicated being escorted away in one section is exceptionally high. This wasn’t a unique comment I’ve read from people who were there yesterday or Saturday either.

Seems to be so many comments about the floors being soaking wet too.
