Most ridiculous comment you’ve read on MN?

Along the lines of that “overheard in Waitrose” trend a few years ago, “No, no Tarquín can’t have the regular avocados he’s allergic, he can only eat the organic ones”….Overheard on Mumsnet…what’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve ever read?

The post recently that said all women with coloured hair were lefty, trans, vegan, tree huggers who probably needed a job and a wash.
( mine is currently pink !)

Or respite! Just phone social care and ask for some respite. Just like that, because there’s tons available.

Yes I saw one poster being advised to demand a week ,s respite
I Mean you can demand what you want but they can't give you resources that don't exist .

Someone on a new born baby tip thread said to change new borns into day/night clothes so the babies got used to when it was night and day.
(Me. It was me. I blame PFBitis). DS is now 13 and sleeps till early afternoon, so it didn't work! 😂

Matzoballs · 03/08/2025 19:54

Am I the only one who thought some of replies on the bat/rabies thread was fairly batshit? (See what I did there…). 🦇

I wish we still had the 😆 reaction!

The posters who see giving a child a ham sandwich or cake as a gateway to crack - ‘that’s abuse’

I think safe guarding was in one thread about taking children for the occasional macdonalds.

Juliejuly · 03/08/2025 19:55

I’m sure it’s been mentioned already, but it’s the ‘Why did you have another child with such a loser’ comments. How is that helpful? Is there a returns policy that they are aware of?

Shamesame · 03/08/2025 19:57

Someone said something like throwing an egg at a car is the equivalent of taking a loaded gun to a party.

manicpixieschemegirl · 03/08/2025 19:58

A woman posted about her postman routinely peeing against her garden fence. Someone very earnestly suggested that she build him a makeshift cubicle so he could have some privacy. Bonkers even by Mumsnet standards.

underthebridge999 · 03/08/2025 20:01

The comments from posters who are outraged someone may dislike their DH being friends with a woman (and the OP usually details why). Who knows why I bother with reading these threads.

The posters in support are so relaxed and confident in their marriages that they apparently go out frequently with people of the opposite sex for dinner and movies and travel with them, and their partners don’t bat an eyelid.

thecatsneedfeeding · 03/08/2025 20:01

Many years ago and it was something about baby food. Someone was imploring the OP to only give their baby a pouch 'because it was fresher'

That apparently one pizza can feed two adults and three teenagers if you bulk it out with coleslaw. How miserable.

I loved the how many meals can you make out of a whole chicken competitions 🤣🤣🤣

x2boys · 03/08/2025 20:05

The breast/ bottle feeding threads I never understand why people get so upset about how other women they have never met choose to feed their own babies.

blinds from what I remember, but yes it was batshit.

Too many to count tbh. The most recent one was on the 'DH wants to go on a stag in Ibiza when OP is 38weeks pregnant" one where someone said if worst came to the worst he could get home in 2.5 hours if she did go into labour.

Yes the flight itself might be that long but the extra time required to get the message, going back to the hotel to pack your stuff, finding a spare seat in the middle of the summer holidays on a flight going in the next few hours, buying a ticket, checking in, getting to the airport, going through security, boarding the plane, hoping there's no delays or cancellations, going back through security, possibly waiting for luggage and then finding a way to get back from whatever airport had the next flight (statistically unlikely to be the same one they flew out from!) to where they live seemed to have just passed that poster by.

One that sticks in my mind is where a poster was complaining about nursery or someone not putting wellies on her young child before going out in the rain and a poster replied 'But it hasn't rained today?' only because it was a perfect representation of the level of obliviousness and egocentricity so common on here where some people are completely unable to imagine anyone living a life the tiniest bit different to their own.

Oh this reminds me of a couple of threads I’ve seen in Chat where someone has asked about a cold or bug that’s ’going round’
Well, I’m in Seville, everyone seems quite well here thank you.

One poster managed to feed herself and her husband fajitas made from one chicken breast( I'm going to get loads of we lost sight of a healthy diet posts and one chicken breast between two is more than enough 🙈)

Those threads are so ridiculous!

’What’s this cold/cough/bug going round’? Who the fuck knows! It’s just germs and they spread, it doesn’t have a name. At some point someone somewhere will have a cold. It doesn’t mean it’s a thing out to get you.

And someone will invariably reply ‘must be covid’. Not everything is covid. 🙄

Nonnonnon · 03/08/2025 20:12

The person who suggested the entire public sector is inept and not as good as the private sector because one maths question was wrong on a civil service entry test. 😂

Maraudingmarauders · 03/08/2025 20:12

A thread where someone was asking if it was okay to give their kid something like a ham sandwich for breakfast as they hated all ‘normal’ breakfast foods, and someone commented ‘don’t be ridiculous, you need to teach them proper breakfast food’.

i was so desperate to comment that they should try visiting…pretty much anywhere that isn’t the UK or America to review what classes as ‘proper breakfast food’ but I resisted.

DreamingOfALottoWin · 03/08/2025 20:19

I hate where posters say 'you dont need to go to A&E if you are posting on here, you arent ill enough'

Or just simply 'Have some water & go to sleep'
When clearly the poster or child are very ill

I was on a thread where some of us bereaved parents were chatting a few years back.

Two of my children have died, almost 10 years apart, from different things.

One poster had a massive go at me, called me selfish for having more kids as there was clearly something genetically wrong (this poster had no idea what my children died from), other posters jumped to my defence thankfully, but the poster said if they got banned they would just keep reregistering and following me about to berate me because her parents ruined her life with some genetic thing apparently. It was very odd.

I did name change though and do very regularly now, just in case.

I am so very, very sorry. Both for your loss and for that appalling poster. I really worry that people that stupid and crass are allowed to have their own children.

The most recent one that made me laugh...OP posting link to New Look dress, should she wear this to such and such, so ballpark figure dress must cost £30-50...first reply says it looks terrible, try this and sends link to dress costing over £450.00!!

Haha, yes, I raised an eyebrow at that too!

x2boys · 03/08/2025 20:23

Constipation threads I have a child with chronic constipation and some of the advice i read on constipation threads is downright dangerous paticularly when it's obvious thst the person that with constipation is impacted and strawberries, coffee, apple skins ,chewing gum or whatever else has worked for you when you haven't been for a day or two ain't gonna cut it.
