Along the lines of that “overheard in Waitrose” trend a few years ago, “No, no Tarquín can’t have the regular avocados he’s allergic, he can only eat the organic ones”….Overheard on Mumsnet…what’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve ever read?

I was on a thread where some of us bereaved parents were chatting a few years back.

Two of my children have died, almost 10 years apart, from different things.

One poster had a massive go at me, called me selfish for having more kids as there was clearly something genetically wrong (this poster had no idea what my children died from), other posters jumped to my defence thankfully, but the poster said if they got banned they would just keep reregistering and following me about to berate me because her parents ruined her life with some genetic thing apparently. It was very odd.

I did name change though and do very regularly now, just in case.

Jeez, you poor thing. That’s horrible.

There are some right weirdos out there.

@TeenLifeMum it was more the insane level of aggression she was directing at anyone who suggested most people did in fact have curtains - it was very funny to watch

I’m completely on your side - I think my teens are mad (I sleep in the pitch black)!

Cheese is a substitute for milk, buying milk will directly kill thousands of people.

During covid I lived in a flat, a poster said I should train our dog to go to the toilet inside as taking the dog outside more than once again made me a very dangerous criminal.

To be fair, 96%* of threads during covid were batshit

I think some of the posts telling the OP not to go to A&E. At least suggest that they ring 111 so someone more qualified can give advice. There was one recently where half the posters were insisting the OP shouldn’t go, but when OP did decide to ignore them and go, they were kept in for tests. Such dangerous advice.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 03/08/2025 18:35

Pep12per · 03/08/2025 16:06

The most recent one that made me laugh...OP posting link to New Look dress, should she wear this to such and such, so ballpark figure dress must cost £30-50...first reply says it looks terrible, try this and sends link to dress costing over £450.00!!

This would be around 50% of posts on S&B and I totally agree with you.

Matzoballs · 03/08/2025 18:38

Equally though the ‘Go to A&E now’ can be as dangerous. I tried giving advice before as a qualified professional backed up with facts from real life professionals but it fell on deaf ears and I was told I was wrong (I wasn’t) so I don’t bother.

Phoebesparrow · 03/08/2025 18:43

I once got bollocked for daring to buy a meal deal from the supermarket for my lunch

I was told I should make my own sandwiches and meal deals where a waste of money

I earn my own money and budget for my lunches

I also cannot bear sweaty sandwiches-which is what happens when I make my own (and believe me,I've tried everything to wrap them in) it doesn't help we don't have a fridge at work to store them in

I'm happy with my choices when it comes to lunch but this poster reacted like I'd wiped my arse on her cat

REDB99 · 03/08/2025 18:46

For me it’s the relentless threads where women who are SAHP find their relationship has failed (utter disbelief that it could possibly happen to them!). They have no pension, no income, no assets and come on here asking what they should do.

Maybe don’t get yourself into that position in the first place? I have no sympathy for them at all. Stupid and naive.

PurpleChrayn · 03/08/2025 18:47

Most of the crackpot anti-Israel shit on the “Conflict in the Middle East” board.

Imagine if you’d said you went to McDonalds for lunch ….. 😳

There was one thread many years ago where a mum was in the supermarket with a newborn who was fussing.

The op went up and said she would carry the baby around the supermarket for her, Mum declined and then her mum appeared and off they went.

Op was so concerned about this mum refusing to let her carry the baby when the mum was struggling she followed her around the supermarket and alerted staff when the baby cried.

By the end of the thread posters had convinced op to go to the supermarket, ask for the CCTV of the carpark to get their reg number and report this Mum to SS in case she had PND because she refused to allow a random stranger to carry her fussy newborn around a supermarket when she had her Mum with her anyway.

Posters were on about gut instinct and spidey senses and "missing piece of a puzzle" and winding each other up no end.

It was maybe 15 years ago now and I still can't get my head around it.

This made me laugh a LOT 🤣🤣🤣
Asking for the CCTV to get her reg to report her to SS 🤣🤣🤣 were they definitely not joking?!!

The poster who said it was neglectful to give your child a sandwich for lunch in school.

CherryRipe1 · 03/08/2025 19:10

@DappledThings That's quite a leap in logic and reasoning, totally absurd and ridiculous! Upskirting? With kids parties It's the more the merrier (within reason) they love it & most parents want to see their kids joyful. It's one of the most stupid things I've think I've read on here & thanks for the info. Yes, shame it's not been left for prosperity!

The woman who claimed that not only did she have no curtains, but no one she knew did and it was weird and old fashioned to have curtains 😂

Maybe she had blinds instead?

Not sure that's unusual on my estate most people have blinds rather than curtains unless she meant she didn't have any window covering, s?

That apparently one pizza can feed two adults and three teenagers if you bulk it out with coleslaw. How miserable.

Maybe if it was one of those metre-long pizzas you can sometimes get in Italy Grin

Same here. It's mostly blinds. There's no curtains in my house.

SchnizelVonKrumm · 03/08/2025 19:19

SilenceOfTheTimTams · 03/08/2025 16:24

That’s probably right.

But, assuming it’s the same infamous thread I’m thinking of, what was so alarming was the number of posters who claimed they’d save their dog over a child.

I cling to the hope that MN is unrepresentative of the population. Otherwise it’s just too depressing to imagine that there are so many misguided half-wits walking among us.

I think I remember that thread. Tbf weren't people saying they would save their dog over a random child, not their own child?

All the ones who KNOW about PIP and benefits and how they KNOW that 95% of people are cheating the system and make up their illness for free cars...

Oh yeah they always know the ins and outs of their acquaintance, s finance, s and their acquaintance s are always claiming PIP illegally.
