It’s a juvenile rat, by the size of it.

Field mouse. I live next to woodland and we see them all the time. They do look like baby rats but they’re mice. You can tell by the tail.

CopperKettle245 · 02/08/2025 17:16

It’s a rat - they like sheds and wooden decking.

Mavvera · 02/08/2025 17:18

What does that Google look up, circle to search thing or Apple information thing say which you can look up things on photos, if you have any of those

Yep. A rat. A small/young one, but a rat nonetheless 🐀

JohnTheRevelator · 02/08/2025 17:20

Definitely a rat. Too big for a mouse, they are absolutely tiny. Plus the long thick tail, mice have shorter tails that are skinny.

BloodandGlitter · 02/08/2025 17:21

It's a young rat looks about the same size as my 3 month old babies. Very cute.

WonderingWanda · 02/08/2025 17:22

That's a rat!

Balloonhearts · 02/08/2025 17:40

It's a rat. Youngster I think.

Tinytigertail · 02/08/2025 17:42

That's a young rat.

TonTonMacoute · 02/08/2025 19:00

Mouse. They can get pretty big where I live. If it's a rat there's no doubt.

OldWomanInACardigan · 02/08/2025 19:02

It's a mouse. Rats are a LOT bigger (they can be the size of a kitten)

But rats start as babies and look exactly like the OP's photo.

rwalker · 02/08/2025 19:14

Baby rat

ChewyMints · 02/08/2025 19:17

I'm certain it's a baby rat. My cat is presenting me with bits of them every day at the moment (we're in the countryside)

That’s a baby rat.

it’s unusual it’s out during daylight hours, it must be starving.

goingtotown · 02/08/2025 20:18

Young rat🐀

fourelementary · 02/08/2025 20:19

Young rat. Quite cute but wouldn’t want it in my garden.

Do mice not like apples? I have loads of apples in my garden I wonder if that explains my rat friend!

The reason I mentioned the apple was for scale.

A mouse would be about half the size of an apple.

Especially with the second photo (mahoosive paws), that is baby Ratty McRatface 🐀

OurChristmasMiracle · 04/08/2025 07:36

@everythingthelighttouches baby ratty McRatface made me laugh.

I agree it’s a baby rat and there will be more. They like living under sheds.

Soontobe60 · 04/08/2025 07:37

It’s a young rat, and there will likely be more of them knocking about as rat litters can be big.
