If you were buying a kitchen today, what colour would you go for?

Roughly… I can’t decide. I like neutrals, but don’t want to be boring. Have seen some lovely colours, but don’t want it to date quickly…

I'm specifically looking at ikea kitchens.

Cream has always been my favourite. If not, then white or beige.

Reallybadidea · 30/07/2025 15:30

The kitchen we're currently planning will have ivory units around the walls and then a contrasting island (probably green).

Delatron · 30/07/2025 15:33

I saw an interiors mag today suggesting a ‘champagne’ colour if you like neutrals. I’d love a pale pink kitchen with a terracotta brick floor and white walls.

My current kitchen is white and then we’ve added colour with tiles and furniture.

I like pale colours- easier to see when it’s clean, and I hate messy kitchens as they feel unhygienic.
Plus, it’s a big investment, expect to keep it for up to 20 years - so far easier to update walls, furnishings, pictures etc against a pale neutral kitchen.

HiRen · 30/07/2025 15:37

Cream or white. No handles.

LoveMyLifeAlways · 30/07/2025 15:38

This was the beige colour.

I'm not sure which door to go with yet. I just got the outline drawn yesterday. Not need to think about door fronts and the worktop (don’t know whether to get the worktop elsewhere though)

Cream or white and use the walls to introduce colour - timeless

LoveMyLifeAlways · 30/07/2025 15:42

I have a sage green on the walls that I love.

neutrals are back

Duvetcover01 · 30/07/2025 15:49

We've just bought a dove grey kitchen.

fussychica · 30/07/2025 16:40

My kitchen is white matt at the top and pale grey at the bottom. No handles. It's 10 years old I'd, looks new and I'd choose the same again today. I've introduced colour on the walls, currently deep teal and previously a F&B colour called Brassica(mauve).

There is no option for real wood in the survey. I have ordered a natural solid oak shaker kitchen.

If I had to have painted wood I would have Little Greene Light Bronze Green but it would be too dark in my kitchen, sadly.

Plastictreees · 30/07/2025 17:18

We recently had a new kitchen. We went for a natural oak shaker design for cupboards, in a chalk blush colour. We chose a particular type of corian for the counters / island / splash back which looks like the surface of Jupiter (white but with beige/greys mixed), and the chalk blush really works with it. We have a herringbone wood floor and two-tone walls in neutral colours. We spent ages designing this and it took forever to install, well worth it now it’s finally complete.

Green units and off white walls

BuntyBeaufort · 30/07/2025 20:19

I’d go with white and add colour with worktops.
You can find some great colours if you look - my favourite was a deep wine red, with toning very pale pink walls. Loved a bright green one too.

Last year, like you was dithering for ages over colour. I nearly lost the will to live. Anyway settled on a colour called cashmere, which is a greige tint and honestly, it's great (well I would say that wouldn't I!). I got dark brown vinyl worktops, they are a newish product (to me) and are just so easy to wipe down and no marks at all. Plain white oblong (small) tiles and waterproof wooden floors, can't remember the name but designed for kitchens and bathrooms. Happy with it and the cupboards are wood so I can get them resprayed if I get sick of looking at them!

It's so hard to choose, so I really do (personally) think neutral is best.

Toddytoddyrumskin · 30/07/2025 20:23

Mine is cream and I love it. I have green blinds, kettle etc.

VeryStressedMum · 30/07/2025 20:27

Mine is cream shaker style. I wouldn't have a colour

LoveMyLifeAlways · 31/07/2025 09:15

Interesting spread of results. I want white or cream (I was worried the beige was too brown). There are no options for real wood wood, unless I've missed something.

DH wants colour, but I'm worried it'll date more quickly. I think we can add colour to the walls instead.

We went with a navy/grey colour. I wasn’t fussed about it dating as I can get it painted later if I want to but I really didn’t want a colour that I was ‘meh’ about. Unfortunately for me that is all of the neutrals and white colours.

DisforDarkChocolate · 31/07/2025 09:42

Yellow.

I have just had a beautiful pink kitchen fitted and while it's lovely it's not yellow.

Aliksa · 31/07/2025 09:46

Cream units as our kitchen faces north so we need light and warm colours and dh wouldn’t put up with anything more interesting.

Floor and tiling raises interesting questions, though!

Why didn’t you pick pink then? My dh wouldn’t accept yellow not pink so maybe you’re in the same boat

I got an off white kitchen a couple of years ago. The taller cupboards and the wall cupboards are in a dark grey with some oak trim. I love it . Best kitchen I’ve ever had. And you can use colour on your walls/ curtains to change it round a bit.
The kitchen before was called “champagne” but unfortunately in our slightly dark north facing kitchen it actually looked green - and not a nice shade of green. So it’s worth trying a sample in the room if you can get one as it won’t necessarily look the same there as in the showroom
