If you were buying a kitchen today, what colour would you go for?

Roughly… I can’t decide. I like neutrals, but don’t want to be boring. Have seen some lovely colours, but don’t want it to date quickly…

I'm specifically looking at ikea kitchens.

Currently staying in a holiday home that has very dark grey Matt units. Handleless so all
cupboards and drawers are push operated. They show EVERY mark- handprints, finger prints etc. would drive me nuts! So if you go for a dark colour make sure you have handles!

I’m about to purchase my kitchen tomorrow.

taken several months to decide but I always wanted a concrete look kitchen but no grey. Ours is sand, it’s textured and looks like concrete but hard to see in the pic. Worktop is Dekton.

Didn’t want a bold colour as don’t want it to date.

Royal blue, but I don't think my dh would agree

Slightyamusedandsilly · 31/07/2025 22:13

Just gone for white. Very very plain. I wanted laboratory / clinical level, have got it and love it. Not high gloss though. Tacky.

SwedishEdith · 31/07/2025 22:15

From Ikea, I quite like this colour. Still light but not obviously in fashion. Otherwise, I'd probably stick with white.

You see I’m all for an easy life, I just couldn’t be doing with cleaning the grooves on these or the shaker style kitchens. Flat face doors all day! 🙌

Plinketyplonks · 31/07/2025 22:23

I always wanted a deep blue/indigo colour but now I’m thinking about natural wood style

RabbitsRock · 31/07/2025 22:25

I love sage green but not sure what I would put with that.

Tumblingthrough · 31/07/2025 22:26

I have different colour door fronts to create zones and add definition

Yeah, agree on flat doors. Not sure if Ikea do this colour in other doors.

Needanadultgapyear · 31/07/2025 22:37

I have had 3 cream/white kitchens over the last 21 years in 3 different houses. I have hated them all particular how much they show any dirt.
I have just choosen my first brand new kitchen and it will be sage green. The walls will be mainly off white, brush nickel handles. There is a seating area at the far end and I will use wall paper there and will take pops of colour from that in the pendants over the island and dining table.

I had grooves for years. Loathed all the cleaning because of kids and dogs 🙈

Gorgeous inky blue and silver handles. In holiday home abroad we have glossy cream with a beautiful brown granite (as it’s mega cheap in that country)

Icehousemaybe · 31/07/2025 23:30

Just having a sage green painted wood kitchen installed with white walls. Looking good so far.

JasonTindallsTan · 31/07/2025 23:39

Pale pink with a contrasting navy island.

Emotionalsupporthamster · 31/07/2025 23:56

White with wooden tops, hands down. Colour in ways that are more easily changed - walls, art, accessories etc.

NewbieYou · 01/08/2025 00:02

Personally I want burgundy. I’d rather mahogany wood but that’s out of the price range.

Nat6999 · 01/08/2025 00:37

I'm looking at the moment, I like greige, dove grey or stone coloured with oak coloured worktops. I'm more confused about taps & hardware fittings, I've fallen in love with brushed brass for taps, handles & electric sockets & switches but am worried they may go out of fashion too fast.

LibertyLily · 01/08/2025 01:23

We're currently doing ours - using a combination of reclaimed 1960s wooden cabinets that were already in the house when we bought it and second hand oak in-frame drawers.

I'm hand painting them in a deep, almost burgundy pink (Edward Bulmer Pompadour) and the wall cupboards are going to be lighter pink (Edward Bulmer Nicaragua). Brass handles etc. I don't care if it dates as I love it!

Previous house we had F&B Oval Room Blue base cabinets with cream wall cupboards.

Ooh I'd love to see this when you're finished!

We’ve got a sage green kitchen (copied from SIL and BIL) that we really love and that visitors always comment on (nicely 😂).

I have sage green, matte handleless units, with white quartz work surfaces

I love it

Cream or white. No handles.

This. We had a cream handless kitchen fitted over ten years ago then we had a utility area put into the garage and after looking at all the kitchens I had the same cream handless kitchen units put into there. They are gloss and always look lovely and fresh.

Kitcheninspo123 · 01/08/2025 07:57

We went very light (it's called porcelain) but added colour with accessories and warmth with wood floor & stools. I worried a colour would date, but this can be updated easily.
