If you were buying a kitchen today, what colour would you go for?

Roughly… I can’t decide. I like neutrals, but don’t want to be boring. Have seen some lovely colours, but don’t want it to date quickly…

I'm specifically looking at ikea kitchens.

I love the sound of these. I'm so torn.

I have two friends who have redone their kitchens recently. One went with gorgeous dark blue cupboards with brass handles, but (internally) I wonder whether this will date as it's so 'in'. My other friend has dove grey units and white worktops, which are really smart (I don't have any grey in my house).

I would like white (or light cream) units - although the IKEA I saw seem to be beige, rather than cream. I have always had black countertops and fancied white this time, but I don't know whether that would be too much (and then add colour with the walls/ accessories). It could either look smart or plain and boring.

DH wants colour on the units, but I worry colours go in and out of fashion. We can change wall colours easily, but not units.

I love wood, but IKEA don't have real wood and I've had fake woods before and am less keen.

DS2 wants black units with white countertops. The pictures he's shown me look stunning, but I wonder about the practicality and don't want to have to add extra lighting on the kitchen because it's so dark.

DS3 doesn't care, but doesn't like anything suggested 😅😅

Having seen Tanya Burrs new kitchen I would go for F&B cord.

Yeah, agree on flat doors. Not sure if Ikea do this colour in other doors.

Another one for flat doors. Anything with grooves would require too much cleaning and I’m lazy 😆

I have flat doors for that very reason but now I'm longing for the character of shaker < fickle >

Get over that itch 😂

Just had my good quality mid brown kitchen cupboards and drawers spray painted in f and b cooking apple green, it's quite pale but I love it with my pale pink walls, cream tiles, green and cream blinds, classic oak flooring. I guess not to everyone's taste, but I'm the only one to please so...

Just imagine spending your morning cleaning them with a wipe and a toothpick…yes I’ve been there…not fun, I have better things to do 🤣 but I like a clean home too 🤣

TwinklyNight · 01/08/2025 08:41

I like the beige one that you posted.

stringsoup · 01/08/2025 08:42

Oh. I know, but.......they LOOK so niiiiice

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 01/08/2025 08:43

We went for white with wooden worktops, and a bright colour on the walls. Our logic was that we could repaint the walls if we fancy a new look. Although you could also repaint the cupboards quite easily.

Is it a 2 year house or a 20 year house? Short term go less personal, longer term do what makes you happy!

I’m surprised white is so popular! I went for blue on your poll but I think I’d actually go for a sage green but also really like the forest green with brass handles. But I’d definitely choose a colour, we’re getting a new kitchen next year :)

It’s because OP said she wants something that won’t date. Blue or green kitchens are lovely but they are the avocado suites of the future!

Love your DS3 😂

In my dream home I'd have a huge walk-in pantry room. With all the dried goods, vegetables, pots and pans in it. My kitchen would be very scant on cupboards, I'd like a huge dresser for china, a big closet with kettle, toaster, drawers underneath for breads, biscuits. Big table and chairs. Sofa.

This one from Wren is my hearts desire

anyzee · 01/08/2025 20:00

This is mine, called Cashmere. It’s a small space (little house just for me!) but it is plenty big enough. I have utility elsewhere though.

My friend had a pink kitchen I adored it. Even DH approved. When she sold the house I thought OH no that gorgeous kitchen.

I wouldn't exactly call that a small space😂 Just an average sized kitchen.

Cinaferna · 02/08/2025 07:23

Stone or cream. Then I'd have sage or dove blue walls. Neutral units, add colour through paint is my choice.

ImogenBrocklehurst · 02/08/2025 07:35

Had mine done last year and I’ve never seen a kitchen I love as much.

Another question, if you don’t mind seeing as you've been so helpful😃

What colour combination do you have between the cupboard doors and worktops?

Are you joking saying that's small? It's just a normal-sized kitchen.

YanTanTetheraPetheraBumfitt · 02/08/2025 10:38

Something similar to this colour.

ayepecking · 02/08/2025 10:41

Our white (cream really) kitchen from IKEA has gone all yellow and discoloured in the sun. Plus the doors have split and been replaced several times. So disappointing. The carcasses are good.
