A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. Labour isn't working!

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I do wonder why the right can’t realign with a positive case for changing the tax system to reward hard work, that higher earners needed to pay higher taxes just after the pandemic but that overall now, the balance has been weighted too far to disincentivising hard work.

of course, they’ll get lots of stick for raising taxes since 2010 but I feel a change to a more traditional Tory strategy could work for them . As it is, we seem to have two main stream parties now that aren’t incentivising hard work and getting ahead through the tax system or anything else!

Is that why IHT is fair game? Even though the money was taxed when earned - they're dead now so tough!

I think they're going after it as it's low hanging fruit. And quite popular amongst some of their supporters. I'm sure I saw a post on here recently advocating for 100% IHT. Batshit.

Because they have no problem taking everyone's money. They would have every single penny if they could.

Surely, however unhappy you are with Labour, the UC figures are up due to MM from ESA or triggered by other change of circumstance. You at least recognise this don’t you?
This number will only increase as the MM for ESA isn’t due to complete until the end of this year.

I haven't suggested otherwise. I simply stated the figures available. As I said upthread, the only specifics reported was that the increase was almost entirely in the not required to work category (as reported on sky, the indy, the mail and others). It could be ESA.The article I linked upthread shows that a large proportion of this category are women, so could be single mums?
If you have more info or a specific breakdown, I'm happy to read them.

The increase in not required to work would then make it more likely that it would be MM from ESA although more people in receipt of ESA are men.
woman in the not required to work category are possibly mums with under 3s (under age 1 have no work commitments and if 1-3 have work prep. Age 3 and you are required to have full time work searches/ work.
Most carers are also women and they wouldn’t ( as they can’t) be required to work as they do very many hours work caring for £83 a week.
The numbers of UC claimants will continue to rise until everyone has migrated over from legacy benefits, wages don’t cover rents and childcare so people will need to claim Universal credit to pay landlords their rent.
Minimum wage equals about £1800 a month.
Rent could be £1200. That’s without any childcare and fuel, travel council tax food etc.

The Nuffield trust has found that the reduction in NHS waiting lists are simply down to those who have died, had treatment elsewhere or moved abroad. Some 245000 appointments or operations have been taken off the waiting list for these reasons each month.

This is information not explicitly held by NHS data and researchers had to count it manually. They suggested that the NHS should be more transparent about the nature of the shortening waiting lists and should stop bloody lying. Okay - I added the last bit.

Well said but also how much do they twist and lie.

Who, the NHS?

EasternStandard · 14/08/2025 09:09

This will damage Labour as they’re relying on waiting lists. Many already feel frustrated by Labour’s lies so it’ll add to that.

TheNuthatch · 14/08/2025 09:26

Thanks for linking some stats. Much of that document is also in the mail article I linked as it was the most comprehensive I could find on MSM.
There doesn't appear to be granular data there which shows how much % is due to legacy benefits (unless I've missed it), so I remain in the camp of we just don't know. I think the issue is the continuous rise in welfare which many see as unsustainable.

That's sad. I was genuinely hoping for some improvements in healthcare under labour, as it is usually one of their strong points.
The lies are becoming entrenched.

Yes, when Wes Streeting said he'd reduce the waiting list, I had hoped for something a bit more productive than a tightening up of admin.
