Let's be honest. The BBC feels the need to have this as a major headline for woke reasons. The reality is few people give a shit....

What utter rubbish

I have te feeling that OP is a disgruntled male person who doesn't like womens sport sharing TV time with men's.

needtostopnamechanging · 27/07/2025 22:20

Just because you don’t care , doesn’t mean no one else does

have to say Spain played a better game but the women’s have learnt the benefit of practising penalties

it’s not “woke” to enjoy football played well

it is mysogenistic to assume that it must be “woke” to want to watch it

HostaCentral · 27/07/2025 22:20

Personally I don't care, and I was a bit pissed off that the choice on TV tonight was the football, the cricket, the football, the grand prix, or some crap about Lidl and Aldi. Thank God for Netflix.

But..... Lots of people do care, and that's fine. I just wish there was something on TV other than wall to wall sport tonight. Hey ho.

There are people who care, although I am suspicious at the amount of people who suddenly care, because I wasn't able to find a thread that existed about the tournament when it was on (whereas there is a tennis thread) and a lot of people were commenting about issues surrounding the game during the actual final instead of watching it.

But football (regardless of sex) has always had glory hunters.

Splendiddydody · 27/07/2025 22:22

It’s a brilliant result! On the whole our women’s team do very well, better than the men in fact.

mismomary · 27/07/2025 22:23

I'm not a football fan but had the match on in the kitchen so I could just keep an eye on the score... it being a FINALand everything. Blooming brilliant, both of us yelling at the tv. Even nonchalant teen DD got excited about the penalties.

BrassOlive · 27/07/2025 22:24

The pubs round near me were packed with England supporters this afternoon, I just watched it from home but it was great to see so many people trotting off to the pubs when I popped out to get groceries.

Women achieving something men haven't managed for years. How terribly woke.

Denimrules · 27/07/2025 22:27

OP what an odd thing to think we don't care. I care, my female and primarily rugby supporting friend cares, my DH and DS and their friends care. I expect even grumpy guy at work will think it's a really good thing and probably say 'why can't our men's team have such a positive approach?'

Fandangoes · 27/07/2025 22:27

I read recently that some semi-pro male footballer that is currently fancying about in Live Island (Harry) - gets paid £7k per week to play for a tinpot team. It has made me wonder how much these fantastic female footballers are getting paid - I do hope it’s a lot more than £7k per week

Mila345 · 27/07/2025 22:29

Eh? I’m Welsh and cannot stand football but I watched it all and the preamble tonight! So pleased for them and their fans, especially their young ones.

powershowerforanhour · 27/07/2025 22:30

"There are people who care, although I am suspicious at the amount of people who suddenly care"

I cheerfully admit that I know feck all about football and don't really care about it but
I like
A happy headline now and again
most of the English (even though a few of you can be a bit of a dose at times the same can be said for any nation) and it's nice to see the joy on you little faces
and
Womens' achievements being celebrated
Hurrah!

OneTipsyDreamer · 27/07/2025 22:32

You’re wrong. It was amazing, loved it! What a match! And many of my friends and their daughters went to support the Welsh team too. Brilliant. Huge support and definitely headline worthy

Radioundermypillow · 27/07/2025 22:32

GeniuneWorkOfFart · 27/07/2025 21:35

I care about as much as I do when the men win. Which isn't much, granted. But I don't see why the women winning should get less coverage, they deserve the same coverage as the men would get if they ever won

When did you see the England men win?

SumUp · 27/07/2025 22:35

The OP must be on glue 😂

I was at a large public event this afternoon and hoards of people of all ages were rushing away to catch the kick off.

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 27/07/2025 22:35
  • ITVs biggest viewership this year
  • Dozens and dozens of news reports
  • Thousands of videos over every media site

I don’t live in the UK, I live in a whole other European city, guess what our news stations have been talking about? Guess what’s been shown at several bars? Guess what will be in the sports pages tomorrow?

Womens sport is finally starting to be recognised and when I was at school and every boy wanted to be Gary Lineker because to them that was an attainable goal, finally our daughters, nieces, goddaughters can finally do the same.

Just because you don’t give a shit and are a miserable fucker doesn’t mean no one else doesn’t.

Kattiekins · 27/07/2025 22:35

Women were banned from playing football in the UK between the 1920s and the 1970s.

It‘s now headline news on the BBC and watched by lots of people.

Even if you don’t give a shit about football, this is a big deal.

Testerical · 27/07/2025 22:35

I agree, OP, its discusting woke lefty liberal two tier nonsense. I’m not long back from an asylum hotel ‘protect the children’ protest. Last thing I wanted was to sit down watching some butch ugly birds playing a men’s game badly. Filth.

GeniuneWorkOfFart · 27/07/2025 22:35

Radioundermypillow · 27/07/2025 22:32

When did you see the England men win?

I don't even remember tbh, I just know there's headlines about football every now and then so I assume there's been a win. Didn't they win in like 1996 or something? Three Lions and all that?

Mewling · 27/07/2025 22:36

Get a woman to do a man’s job, eh OP?

WizardofCoz · 27/07/2025 22:36

Wish the men could play football like the women can!
⚽️

And of course people care. 🤣

Livinganewadventure · 27/07/2025 22:37

@UnbelievablyStressed Are you male?

strawlight · 27/07/2025 22:37

I’m on holiday abroad (not Spain) and all the bars went wild when they won and staff handed out free shots of the local tipple. Even the Germans were enjoying it.

You’re so wrong. OP!

Dymaxion · 27/07/2025 22:40

I think its headline news because they won, its headline news when the men don't, repeatedly Grin
