Let's be honest. The BBC feels the need to have this as a major headline for woke reasons. The reality is few people give a shit....

We are not into football yet watched and enjoyed it and were happy that England won. I just asked someone why the first penalty was disallowed so I was engaged.

So you and yours don't care but that's not most people.
It's great and I don't even like football

powershowerforanhour · 27/07/2025 21:51

"I am from Northern Ireland and was watching All Ireland match in the pub. "

I'm also from Northern Ireland and do not give much of a shit about
a) football
b) England
c) Gaelic football
d) Kerry

but I watched the end of the All Ireland and was moved to feel a bit sorry for Donegal (they're neighbours) , went and checked the sheep and did some jobs and tuned in to see the end of the England match and actually got quite excited watching the penalties and cheering for the Lionesses.

Don't worry OP, they'll be off the top news spot by Tuesday at the latest, if England men won the euros it would be infesting the headlines for weeks.

Don't be ridiculous ita nothing to do with being woke. Its a brilliant achievement. Let's face it if it was the men's team it would be all wed be hearing about for months

Try years 😁

Doidontimmm · 27/07/2025 21:54

I’m Scottish & may have had a tear in my eye at them winning, great role models.

TeenLifeMum · 27/07/2025 21:55

Not really into football but I could tell you more of the women’s team member’s names than the men’s. We all watched their victory in this house and it was fab. Dh is into football and it was his suggestion to watch. Dc enjoyed it and all want Chloe Kelly shirts. If you don’t like something, don’t watch it or start threads on it. I don’t like love island but understand others do.

BellissimoGecko · 27/07/2025 21:56

Oh, don’t be daft. Imagine the coverage if the men ever managed to win the Euros. The Beeb has to make a similar effort for the women. And plenty of people care.

DiggingHoles · 27/07/2025 21:57

Any news outlet cares way more about clicks than they do about being "woke" or whatever. If nobody clicked on those headlines they would have stopped posting them a long time ago.

So YABU.

I beg to differ, I work with a team of men, most of them now follow Women's league football..standard is as high but so far, ticket prices are at the stupid men's level so great football and more affordable.

Also several of the men have daughters who play and the dads coach...it's taking off, it will take a little longer but our daughters will grow up with positive role models and learn what success looks like...After suffering years of the pampered, under performing mens team who don't play as a team as only self interested.

The Op, like some men, are threatened by the women's game

Steelworks · 27/07/2025 22:00

There’s not many things that both BBC and iTV cover at the same time, but this was one of them. Can’t remember if that happened for the previous World cup and Euro finals.

Well done England.

mamagogo1 · 27/07/2025 22:01

We watched it despite me disliking football, my mum watched it and wouldn’t have if it was the men! It’s a significant news story today, of course the news led with it

PerfectTuesday · 27/07/2025 22:01

For goodness sake. You can't expect every headline to be tailored to every interest. I didn't personally have any interest in the recent death of Ozzy Osbourne but I wouldn't criticise it as a headline because plenty of people were interested.

Oh no! Poor menz being triggered by women being good at stuff AGAIN.

Bloody hell, we are only at page 3 of the thread and already have the hat trick of Northern Irish, Welsh and Scottish posters cheering on England for the win.
Do you know how rare that is? Rocking horse shit level rare. They should get be some kind of funding for that alone.
