Let's be honest. The BBC feels the need to have this as a major headline for woke reasons. The reality is few people give a shit....

It’s just nice to have a headline that’s not about some bloke bombing people, killing people, rapping people tbh. I’ve no interest in football at all mens or women’s I just like that it’s happy news for a change !

Are you joking 🤣

Echoing the love from my fellow Celts and so proud of the Lionesses. Marvellous women. Ardderchog!

Is that you, Joey Barton?

lol 😂

PatsFruitCake · 27/07/2025 23:21

My WhatsApp has been buzzing with people watching it including my grown up sons. Who's not interested?

spoonbillstretford · 27/07/2025 23:22

Loads of people really care, and even if they aren't into football or sport they can be happy for other people who are. It's a nice happy thing and a great achievement.

I love that loads of men care. I actually think women's football is doing a lot towards making sexism unacceptable. And if that's too wokey wokey for you, tough shit. Eat my football shorts.

JassyRadlett · 27/07/2025 23:25

Yeah, DH has had a standing date at the pub with some mates for all the England matches over the last few weeks, and my football-mad kids were dancing round with joy. DS2 (who is a goalie) has requested a goalie kit with Hampton on the back....

powershowerforanhour · 27/07/2025 23:25

"Even the Germans were enjoying it."

Triple the funding. Were they moved to share their deckchairs in celebration? If so- quadruple that funding! A major step for pan European relations.

maggiesleapp · 27/07/2025 23:26

NI fan here, watched the game in our local club and we all were delighted they won.

Oh bless him.

I have an Ella Toone shirt, like a big kid. She has the same birthday as me.

newhouseplans · 27/07/2025 23:27

I'm not even that into football and I watched it!

He's a good egg and fiercely argues that goalies don't get the credit they deserve. Loves Jordan Pickford but since the last Euros he's been a big fan of the goalkeeping in the women's game - we saw a few Matilda's matches at the Women's World Cup and he still raves about Mackenzie Arnold. (As he should, she's epic.)

Women goalkeepers are usually a lot shorter that their male counterparts. I was thinking how little Hampton looked in the goal. They really have a lot of ground to cover when they dive for the ball! The Spanish and German keepers were extraordinarily good too.

Only one person in my friend group is interested. The rest of us don’t care about it whoever is playing. But I’m happy for those it matters to.

although wall to wall on 2 channels seems unnecessary. And delaying the start of other programmes for the inane chatter afterwards was annoying to those of us waiting for the proper programmes.

If it hadn't been for what you call "inane chatter" afterwards I wouldn't have known that Lucy Bronze had played the whole tournament with a broken tibia.
The OP lost me when she started droning about "woke".

They are pushing it down our throats to distract from the protests at young male migrants being housed in hotels.

Oh dear.

Pieceofpurplesky · 27/07/2025 23:40

I agree that @UnbelievablyStressed must be Joey Barton as he’s getting his arse handed to him on X.

i love that the little girl next door to me ran outside cheering when the last penalty went in, i love that my dad’s nurse stayed longer at their house to watch the end and they high fived and whooped …
I bet the OP has an England flag on their social media bio and wants us to be patriots. Unless we are women.

IZK · 27/07/2025 23:42

The OP won't be back.

They started a thread the other week asking for help, got some well thought out replies and didn't bother returning.

Rude.

Cursula · 27/07/2025 23:46

Thank you for ‘being honest’.
what was the point of your thread? Journo? Or bored?
it was a fab evening. My DD (25) and DS (30) had a ball in the Box Park.
I’m sad that there is negativity over something so positive.
And if you hate football, fair enough but why start a thread?

Greenalien1 · 27/07/2025 23:49

I sat through the whole thing and absolutely loved it, so did my 6 year old son and my 70 year old mum...

TizerorFizz · 27/07/2025 23:51

@Yayitstheholidays Who talked them down? It’s been totally upbeat everywhere! BBC is one big love in! If you mean are people talking about tactics? Yes, of course. It’s football. No one is saying it’s not a great achievement and I never heard much that wasn’t positive but some people were very concerned about giving away first half goals and poor penalty taking. We are allowed to have discussions.

chachahide · 27/07/2025 23:52

Radioundermypillow · 27/07/2025 21:37

I find men's football utterly boring.

Love women's football! Love the Lionesses! They were amazing.

I think people who vehemently hate women's football for 'woke' reasons should be put on some kind of list.

Some kind of list 😂 spot on. It would do us all a favour.

My youngest cat was transfixed and watched extra time and the penalty shoot out in quiet fascination. Never seen him concentrate for so long
😂

elm26 · 28/07/2025 00:02

My DH and I love it! We also watch the men’s
and regular football too but what not to like about this? Women in a predominantly male career absolutely smashing it! Brilliant role models also. We love to see it! Super proud of them 🥳 and Sarina Wiegman is excellent. I especially love Kelly and Agyemang!
