Womens football....leading headline BBC news....why? Cos very few people actually care

Let's be honest. The BBC feels the need to have this as a major headline for woke reasons. The reality is few people give a shit....

I care about as much as I do when the men win. Which isn't much, granted. But I don't see why the women winning should get less coverage, they deserve the same coverage as the men would get if they ever won

Everyone in the local pub was cheering them on - one fella in particular being daftly vocal about INGERRRLUND. Some folk do give a shit - BBC or not

I don't even like football, and even I cared if they won! I reckon the OP is a man who is just pissed that the men's team haven't won anything since 1966.

How about it's nice to have a positive headline for once or do you want every headline to be Country A bombs the crap out of Country B, Country C is trying to destroy the world economy again, Country D is trying to blame immigrants for all of its woes rather than its own mismanagement?

I think its popularity is rising all the time.
I’m a middle aged woman, I hardly know anything about football but I watched it with my teen sons, daughters and my DH. I enjoyed it and might take more of an interest in women’s football now.
Continuing to promote it is important as it has a message about women challenging stereotypes and succeeding.

As an aside, I thought the English goalkeeper was out of this world! Amazing skills. Doesn’t she have a sight problem too?

I’m very pleased that women’s football is making headlines. It would have been unthinkable when I was a girl in the 1980s.

My 21 year old son has watched all the matches and is celebrating tonight! I’m happy about it even though I don’t watch football.
Let’s face it - great news for the nation, great news for women and great role models for sporty girls. What’s not to love?

I care. I am beyond delighted for our Lionesses. I was rooting for them and it was even better they won for England on penalties given our disappointing national history with those.

Women have waited a very long time to get a proper look in with football. They get less funding, less coverage, often less encouragement socially. Despite this, they are creating their own new beautiful story and history.

I don't know anyone who didn't want to watch the final and most of them were interested in how England were doing. I loved it.

I don’t even like football and I care. Brilliant news, I’m so happy for the Lionesses. My 14 year daughter and all her friends absolutely loved it, and my brother and all his football buddies. Loads of people have been talking about it. Not everything in the world has to be just for you OP 🙄.

Actually had a conversation today about being at the till in Aldi, and the two chaps working there, discussing pulling a sickie in the morning after watching the match... loved how women's football is now becoming in the psyche and not a novelty... about bloody time..
