Which part of the UK are you least familiar with?

For me it's the West Country counties, namely Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, and Somerset (I've probably opened a whole new debate as whether they're considered to be part of the West Country!) and anywhere further north of Edinburgh.

I'm definitely going to remedy this as my sister and I are planning on a summer of road trips next year.

Northern Ireland, never been.

BlueyNeedsToFuckOff · 26/07/2025 18:29

Probably the Midlands

WonderingWanda · 26/07/2025 18:31

I've never made it to the North East.

Northern Ireland, never been.

Same.

Comedycook · 26/07/2025 18:33

I've never been to Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland...would really like to though. Would also love to visit the lake District...it just feels so far away and I have no idea how to plan a trip there

StrongandNorthern · 26/07/2025 18:34

The South.

KassandraOfSparta · 26/07/2025 18:34

Midlands - Leicester, Nottingham, Derby that sort of area.

Have visited most other parts of the UK including N Ireland, Wales and several Scottish islands. (We live in Glasgow).

Squirrelsnut · 26/07/2025 18:35

The north generally. Above Leeds, anyway.

EndorsingPRActice · 26/07/2025 18:35

the east, Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex

ExponentialDelivery · 26/07/2025 18:35

Northern Island and Essex, never been to either. I have only passed through Kent to get to the channel. Don't really know Shropshire or Northamptonshire either. Been pretty well everywhere else.

Seriously? Get on a train or get a coach? Book an airbnb or B&B?

MurdoMunro · 26/07/2025 18:37

Most bits that people call ‘the south’ of England. Used to have occasional meetings in London (ah, them were the days, miss that) and have visited Cornwall and Somerset. Anywhere else down there, not a scooby. What even are the Home Counties?

I looked at trains and there were loads of changes...I also have no idea how you access it all...walks, hikes? Its a long way by car too...do you need a car once you're there? Do you need specialist clothing/equipment or do you just walk round? I'm not outdoorsy but would like to be.

Brenna24 · 26/07/2025 18:37

The south east. I live in Scotland and have been to Northern Ireland, Wales, the south west and the North.

SwedishEdith · 26/07/2025 18:39

Places like Lincolnshire, the east Midlands and also Scotland north of Loch Lomond.

Eastendboysandwestendgirls · 26/07/2025 18:39

I've never been to the North West of England. Among other places, obviously, but not been in or through ever.

taylorsfritz · 26/07/2025 18:39

South east England, never really been there.

mnahmnah · 26/07/2025 18:40

@Comedycook Simple - book somewhere to stay in Keswick. You could stay there a few nights and hardly have to leave the town. Lots of walks straight from there, the tourist info will help with that, or lots online. Walk down to the lake, enjoy some crazy golf on the way, get a boat on the lake.

Shropshire! Thank you! That was the other 'shire I couldn't remember.
I feel I only 'know' these counties from watching Escape to the Country!

In terms of visiting, Northern Ireland and anywhere in Scotland further north than Glasgow, as I have never been there.

Hedjwitch · 26/07/2025 18:43

Cornwall

LittleLlama · 26/07/2025 18:43

Northern Ireland and the Hebrides. Not been to either.

TheDandyLion · 26/07/2025 18:44

East Anglia, the south east apart from London. Northern Ireland and Scotland.

NC18264 · 26/07/2025 18:45

Basically, the entire length of the east coast of England and Scotland north of Glasgow/Edinburgh.
