Ozzy Osbourne - we shouldn't speak ill of the dead but has his domestic abuse and serial infidelity been glossed over in all the eulogies?

Maybe because he was a rocker firm the 70s but it seems Ozzy's real character flaws have been warped into a 'charismatic hell raiser ' image to be admired.

In reality should we also be critical about his actions and views?

I am honestly aghast that people are excusing domestic abuse and animal abuse by saying someone is “the prince of darkness”. Get an actual grip on yourself.

TheWorthyGreenDreamer · 24/07/2025 13:00

It's always troubled me that their relationship was so toxic but held up as Sharon 'saving him' and a rock n roll love story.

But Sharon has always been a toxic individual that no-one should admire so they seemed quite matched as partners.

It gives victims the freedom to say in public what happened to them, if they should choose to do so. I am against pressuring victims to be quiet now that their abuser has died, because "we don't speak ill of the dead".

I haven’t once said people shouldn’t speak ill of the dead and also don’t agree with it. What I don’t agree with is people waiting until someone has died to start saying stuff, truth or not.

Because they don’t want to get sued and/or don’t feel safe saying it during their lifetime. I mean imagine laying into Jimmy Savile before he had died. That wouldn’t have gone down well given how people made out he was some sort of saint. Same with Ozzy.

I don't think there's anything that hasn't already been public knowledge for years about Ozzy or Sharon.

Everyone knows their shit behaviour together and separately.

Well I read the obituaries for the Yorkshire Ripper a few years ago and surprisingly they did detail his wrongs. So yeah depends on what the person did. OO was a violent, abusive piece of shit who tortured innocent animals, beat his wives, cheated repeatedly, treated his oldest children dreadfully and was just generally awful.

The Yorkshire Ripper 😂 😂 Fucking hell, MN does give me a good laugh sometimes.

Op isn’t a victim though of Ozzy osbourne, they’ve just decided to come on her to speak down on him. Fair enough that’s the opinion everyone has one but again why wait till they have died.

You’re the one who said you’d never read an obituary detailing negative stuff. There’s plenty. I didn’t say OO was the same as the YR although personally I think someone who murders seventeen innocent cats who must have been terrified during his horrific attack is morally on a similar level.

Maybe he wasn’t at the forefront of her mind before he died. Now he’s died, it’s a reminder of what a piece of shit he was and it’s important to correct the false narrative that he was some loveable rogue.

@mids2019 he's not even been dead 24 hours.....

He's been half dead for 20 years

I loved Ozzy. Yes he did some awful things (during his years of addiction)

He seemed a genuine, funny, family man when he was sober.

That farewell gig raised £140M which was spilt between Birmingham Children's Hospital, Acorns Children's Hospice and a Parkinson's charity.

Yeah so many genuine family men I know have murdered the family pets and attempted to kill the mother of their kids. Real salt of the earth guy there. Oh but it’s fine cos he was on drugs.

He did a concert just a couple of weeks ago that raised lots of money for charity and him and his wife or kids are in the press regularly.

Loads of celebs are in the news daily. They don't all have threads started about them either. It tends to be when there's some massive scandal or a death etc that people will start threads en mass. Like now, for example.

A genuine family man? Who abandoned half his kids? Yikes.

You clearly have no idea about addiction so it is pointless talking to you.

Addiction does not make you do something contrary to your nature, you are making excuses.

If he molested a child while doing drugs, would you honestly say 'it wos the drugs that did it!'???

Well, would you? STOP making EXCUSES!!

crumblingschools · 24/07/2025 14:41

So it is okay to be abusive to your family and cruel/kill your pets if you are an addict?

Most addicts don’t behave like violent psychos actually. It suggests a pattern of behaviour that’s already there. “The drugs/booze made me do it” isn’t a defence in criminal law and rightly so.

I can't agree that "addiction does not make you do something contrary to your nature". It absolutely can, and does for many people.

HOWEVER, I think all sensible people can agree that those who attempt to murder their spouses, abandon their kids, kill dozens of animals, are alcoholic drug abusers etc cannot seriously be described as "genuine family men", irrespective of their status as an addict.

Fargo79 · 24/07/2025 14:38

When sober, yes he was a family man.

His first marriage broke down because he was an alcoholic. It wasn't an abandonment. He had also adopted his first wife's eldest son.

Anyone who understands addiction realises it is a Jekyll and Hyde situation. The 'real' person is the sober person.

I don't think that's the reason that it's not a criminal defense. My understanding it's that it's based on the choice to consume drugs/alcohol, rather than because these substances do not alter a person's character (even temporarily).

BlackCatGreyWhiskers · 24/07/2025 14:47

OP I was thinking the exact same thing! I’m not sure their marriage is something to be admired.

I also doubt Ozzy would have shown the same love and care to Sharon if health issues were reversed and it was her who needed care and compassion. More likely he would have given up and shagged around.

I can understand people like his music but he was morally repugnant.

He adopted his wife's son, and then subsequently abandoned him. Yes, abandoned. He did not manage to be a "family man" to his older children, even during periods where he was not drug addled and violent.

He also went on record talking about an argument he had with Jack where he said something along the lines of "I've given you everything" and Jack responded "but what about a father?".

Perhaps we have very different ideas of what the phrase "family man" refers to.

BlackCatGreyWhiskers · 24/07/2025 14:52

@Fargo79 has his first wife and children ever had an interview to say what happened. It just seems so odd that his previous life has essentially just been glossed over.

Listen to Tommy Lees stories whilst Ozzy was on tour with Motley Cru, he was literally shitting in his hands and smearing it on the hotel walls.

I've had nights out when I was younger where I've got plastered and made a twat of myself, completely forgotten what I done and had to be told by friends the next day. That's just on wine!

Imagine what being on a cocktail of heroin and LSD would do to a persons mind. People have self harmed and committed suicide under the influence of psychedelics so I'd say drugs definitely do 'make you do something contrary to your nature'

Perhaps look up some ex addict recovery stories and you might not be so ignorant about it.
