What water do you drink at home?

What water do you drink at home? Do you buy bottled water? Do you have a filter system? Do you have water delivery arranged?
With two active boys I noticed that lately we go through racks of bottled water and looking to change to either water filter like virgin or water2 or get a water dispenser. I haven’t done any research yet on any filters but worry if we install any it wouldn’t change how tap water tastes and we will still need to buy bottles.
Has anyone installed filter and happy with it after at least a year of use?

Tap water

We drink tap water supplied by Thames Water.

Why would you 'need' to buy bottles? How did your teens get so picky and entitled?

How do people in a CoL crisis and an environmental crisis still buy water in plastic bottles?

I'd be embarrassed.

Jug in fridge, ice...all make water more attractive to drink and dull any 'taste' your local water has, but in the end, its just water.

Tap, though usually in the form of tea. We’re in a soft water area, I’ve never had to descale my kettle, though having grown up in the south with hard water I find the taste slightly bland.

Tap water. Ours is delicious!

Tap water through Brita filter jug. Tastes fresher.

redgingerbread · 22/07/2025 10:47

Chateau Thames (as my dad calls it)

luckylavender · 22/07/2025 10:49

Tap

NotMyRealAccount · 22/07/2025 10:50

Tap. We keep some bottles of sparkling water at home because I like it occasionally though not often enough to buy a Sodastream, but wouldn't buy bottled still water.

dogcatkitten · 22/07/2025 10:50

Built in filter for separate water tap, but the tap water is fine.

GLC789 · 22/07/2025 10:50

GlaikitWeeNyaff · 22/07/2025 10:53

Tap water - would never consider anything else for home.

I have a microbiology background.

Please do NOT buy bottled water. Its very environmentally unfriendly and the quality is not better than tap water, there is a misconceptiom about this. The only difference is that tap water does not contain microplastics, in that sense is better than bottled water.

Unless you live in an area with radon/ old copper pipes or any specific issue, tap water is always best. Your county council is aware of these areas, please check.

In mine always tap water.

So what should I do if I live in Radon area? Will a filter be enough. May be too late for me though after donkeys years if drinking tap water.

persianfairyfloss · 22/07/2025 10:54

We have a filter as our water here is notoriously awful.

I buy a few litres of bottled water for storm season every year but otherwise never,

vodkaredbullgirl · 22/07/2025 10:54

Tap water, although I drink more pepsi max than water.

hobbledyhoy · 22/07/2025 10:55

Tap.

catinacone · 22/07/2025 10:56

Thames Water's finest.

We do have sparkling water in the fridge in the summer as well, but that is for fizzy squash, not as a replacement for water.

AnotherDifficultOne · 22/07/2025 10:56

I drink Evian because I can't drink tap water. I think I'm sensitive to chlorine or something.

stayathomer · 22/07/2025 10:56

Tap but it is disgusting! Have tried every filter. Sometimes we buy bottled when I just can’t take it any more as a treat (sigh!!) When we get to my mums she laughs at how much we go on about her water! Dh and one ds drink fizzy and I hate the waste it generates

ShesTheAlbatross · 22/07/2025 10:56

Tap water. We have a fridge with a water dispenser thingy that we fill up with tap water.

TerrierCollector · 22/07/2025 10:57

Tap. I Britta filter it now because although we used to have some of the best water (Lake District), it's started to taste a bit "funny" of late. I won't do bottled because it's not great for the environment.

Hyperion100 · 22/07/2025 10:57

Always boggles my brain when you see people in the supermarket stacking their trolleys with 50 bottles of water when we have some of the most stringent rules around tap water in the world.

Em308 · 22/07/2025 10:57

I buy bottled as our tap water tastes very strongly of chlorine. I hate the amount of plastic waste, so often try to put up with the tap water taste but I drink a lot of water and the tap water makes me feel sick.

godmum56 · 22/07/2025 10:58

tap water. I have got a filter tap that you can choose filtered or straight off the main. I mainly use the filtered stuff to stop the kettle furring up. My tap tastes fine either way.
