So we can carry on speaking our truth innit 😂

OP posts:

When someone introduces some information and then says "Let that percolate for a moment". As if we the plebians need extra time to digest their sophisticated narrative.

Mastercom · 19/07/2025 05:32

‘Many’ when talking about people on social media, the very worst being ‘many won’t repost this’ 🙄🙄🙄

I think I'd have to walk away if someone said that to me🤷 that's as condescending as it sounds.

RunningJo · 19/07/2025 06:38

me thinks - said at the end of a sentence
wine o’clock
hollibobs
hubster
fur baby

Fleetheart · 19/07/2025 06:46

“the likes of..”
as in ..”the likes of Madonna, Elton John and Duran Duran,”! Are they appearing or not!?

Brendahollowayreconsider · 19/07/2025 06:50

Not so much cringe.. going to see a man about a dog.
My dad said this to me when I asked where he was going.
I really thought I was getting a dog ,alas upon his return no dog.
Cue bitter disappointment 😞

IglesiasPiggl · 19/07/2025 07:30

Any form of "minimising" verb, like

Hop on the bus
Jump on a call
Pop it in an email

itbemay1 · 19/07/2025 07:37

Receipts - as in I’ve got proof with a photo or text. Urgh… just say I’ve hit the photo evidence or a copy of the text!!

Slightlysimi · 19/07/2025 07:37

Reading the “destructions” (instead of instructions because it’s soooooooo hilarious)

A bit MIL specific but …”as John/uncle bob/sue that works in coop/etc would say”. Mine uses this phrase 50 times a day and I can’t take it anymore. half the time it doesn’t make any sense.

”there’s a lot to unpack here” (in terms of a situation not a suitcase). I just want to scream that this isn’t Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and you are definitely not Andy Cohen.

“Man up”

Give your head a wobble. Such a stupid phrase and makes me think less of the person who says it 🤣

Yup also this!!

Classic old one, might start using it.

Condescending, smar as think about it for a minute or let that sink in.

Most of the time it's a straightforward thing or at worst, doesn't make sense.

Used by people who think they're so clever yet makes them look dim.

I've always wondered about that phrase, does it mean going for a poo? Or possibly a pint?

My two most loathed words are gutted and gobsmacked. They're DISGUSTING.

Badbadbunny · 19/07/2025 08:16

Side hustle!

IglesiasPiggl · 19/07/2025 08:43

The irritating new trend in Friday work emails to add "when you get there" to the standard "have a good weekend".

Going to see a man about a dog
Means mind your own business.
With you on go smacked.

Brendahollowayreconsider · 19/07/2025 08:57

Gobsmacked

EssentialDecluttering · 19/07/2025 09:13

I agree about "source please" especially when it's a chat thread and someone has posted something that is widely held to be true such as that eating vegetables is good for you.

Posters wailing about other people's lack of critical thinking.

That's brought to mind another couple of hopefully now obsolete ones -

A bit of how's your father
and
Afternoon delight

Both beyond the realms of cringe-dom.

repetitive phrases I do not hear anymore,

you know what your problem is
the trouble with you is
I know you better than you know yourself

and all the above mentioned, some teeth grindingly banal

rumred · 19/07/2025 10:20

Man up
Random
Passed away
100%
No worries

lamauvaiseherbe · 19/07/2025 10:21

@SquishedMallow - or why and how are /were traditional dusters yellow

TheaBrandt1 · 19/07/2025 10:22

Keeping well. Just grates. Another mil saying and weirdly was in a letter from school 🙄.

Passed away is fine though I deal with the recently bereaved and saying died etc just feels too brutal.

@IglesiasPiggl - this is insolent
