Hi everyone,
Just after opinions pls.....
I wear shorts and mini skirts a lot in the summer, I am very comfortable in both. However I am 'mature' shall I say. I am of small build UK size 8 or 10. I have just recently started wondering ...'am I too old to wear such attire?'
Any thoughts would be very welcome....thx :)

I see men in their 80s and 90s wearing shorts in this hot weather. So it seems logical that women of the same age can wears shorts or mini skirts as well.

I don’t hear anyone telling older men that they need to have a decent figure or nice legs.

Justthethingsthatyoudointhisgarden · 16/07/2025 20:12

I mean, they've all said it..... wear what makes you feel good

Octavia64 · 16/07/2025 20:13

You are too old to wear them when you are dead.

I went through a phase in my early 30s, when I felt too old to wear certain things, but I think it coincided with becoming a mum.

In my 40s, I'm back into wearing exactly what I like. It's not my problem of other people don't like to look at me.

Thx again for further comments ppl!!! :)

Have a good look in mirror, front and back . Sit down in front of the mirror. Cross your legs. If you are happy with everyone seeing what you see, then go for it. There’s no age limit.

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 16/07/2025 20:42

If you mean fanny skimmers, then I think that’s a look only for the under 30s TBH

Mid thigh fine up to 105, if you have a nice pair of pins

Backtothebestbits · 16/07/2025 20:44

I saw a woman running this morning in shorts, I would say she was mid 50’s and her legs looked amazing - I was very jealous as I’m the same age but have never had the legs for a mini skirt or shorts.

This happened to me too, I definitely went through a mumsy phase. Maybe at the time it was a more fashionable look (Boden was big at the time). 48 now and back wearing whatever I want. Happy to see others older than me still flying the flag.

I think i just felt like I needed to dress more appropriately now that I was a mum. I think a lot of new mums have that crisis, especially if they have kids in 30s/40s. My legs were my best feature before I got boobs and they're currently outlasting my boobs' fleeting glory!

NorthernLiner · 16/07/2025 21:05

52 and wearing one right now (on holiday, it's hot)
Wore short shorts earlier too.
I have the legs of a 9 Yr old according to DH, they're covered in scars and bruises, and currently - mosquito bites.
Don't care a jot, they're my legs and they've served me well thus far!

Wear whatever you like @lovenotwar149

RatherTardy · 16/07/2025 21:36

Like many others on here, I dressed more conservatively when DD was tiny (it was more practical when youre running around and bending over a lot.
I'm mid 50s now.
Considerably bigger than a size 8 or 10.
I'm told I have ok legs. They're quite long and reasonably thin until the very top.

I wear mid thigh length or a little shorter with leggings usually underneath (although I've been bare legged in this heat). In my 20s I got "nice belt" comments from my dad.
I don't go THAT short these days.
I exercise a lot and wear shorts for that, which are a similar length

ViciousCurrentBun · 16/07/2025 21:38

I love the wonderful items that are skorts, hard to come by unfortunately. It’s like permanently playing PE.

arcticpandas · 16/07/2025 21:42

It depends on the rest of your outfit. I have seen some classy mature women who look great in mini, others who looked like old prostitutes so it depends on the whole impression you give. Just thinking..one probably was an older prostitute 😅

Haha my dh says the same about my legs! Bruises from my absent minded clumsiness and scabs on my knee from shaving or from catching my legs on the stupid handle thing under my desk when I try and cross my legs 😂
he says I always look like I’ve had a fight in the playground 😂😂 he’s just jealous cos he knows I could beat him in a playground fight!!

WingSlutz · 16/07/2025 21:54

I’m 50 and I’m owning the reality that I have a fantastic pair of legs. Mini skirts and hot pants all summer here. Get your legs out OP, why would you ever regret it?

I was in Florida and plenty of over 60 ladies in hot pants and sport tops. They were tanned and super fit, like 2-3 hours a day gym fit. And they looked amazing. I saw several in super skimpy tennis and golf skirts and they looked great.
it us down on how comfortable you are and wearing appropriate clothes for the place you go, which is a rule that should apply at any age, for example I would not wear hot pants in a office but a day out and about, why not?

BlueEyedBogWitch · 17/07/2025 05:45

When one is dead.

ArcticBells · 17/07/2025 05:52

I’m 63 and have been wondering whether next winter I’ll get away with my short skirts, but they are only an inch above the knee and I always wear opaque tights and flat shoes with them. The option would be nonstop trousers as I don’t like being swathed in fabric

"hotpants"? I think that's quite a young look personally and my teenagers would agree but maybe it's the context they're in.

Steelworks · 17/07/2025 06:12

I’ve been wearing above knees dresses in the hit weather.

Theres no cut of age.

MrBallenIsaFittie · 17/07/2025 06:16

Hmmm I have a colleague in her early 60's that comes to work in very short shorts and mini skirts with a vest top etc.
Unfortunately, despite being very slim the tops of her arms and legs are very loose and saggy. It really isn't a good look but could be passable on the weekend, it just looks tragic at work.
In summary, I think wear what you want in your own time but consider professional dignity at work!

Hell no you aren’t too old. If you got it flaunt it. Wear what you want.

RomeoRivers · 17/07/2025 19:52

My 78 yr old nanny wore a pink and orange mini skirt to Christmas because ‘she’s got good legs’ 😂
