Are we talking about a baby chick?

No 😂.

A human baby - like when you go to see the midwife and they don’t say…
’let me see how THE baby is doing’.
Instead they omit the word ‘the’ and say ‘let me see how Baby’s doing.’
or
‘Is baby feeding ok?’ When it should be ‘is THE/YOUR baby feeding ok?’

scritter · 15/07/2025 18:31

It's a MN one. When someone's posting a recipe in response to 'quick midweek meals' or something, the entire thing is written to emphasise the incredible, casual speed that this meal can be prepared with.

"You throw the chicken at a bowl, lob a handful of paprika in, sling it into the oven then drop-kick the whole fucking lot towards the table. 10 minutes, tops."

Probably followed by "food of the gods..."

remembered there's an edit button Grin

I really hate "pivot" used in a work context. Unless your work is netball you are not pivoting.

Me too. Can't bear it.

the80sweregreat · 15/07/2025 18:34

When you read a menu in a reasonably priced restaurant and it’s a lovely long list of ingredients made to sound delicious and wholesome and then you hear the ping of the microwave going off ( almost )
Sourced, hand stretched , hand picked , succulent, lashings etc but the eating doesn’t match the menu glowing references.

HerVagestyTheQueef · 15/07/2025 18:34

The use of "way" as an adverb

Way too much.
Way too little.
Way better.

Instead of "far"
"far too much"

2Magpies24 · 15/07/2025 18:34

“I’m not gonna lie” often comes from the mouths of untrustworthy sorts

Dontlletmedownbruce · 15/07/2025 18:36

Thins. As in crackers or chocolates or similar that are cut very thinly so refer to themselves as 'thins'. I currently have a packet of Tesco 'poppy and sesame thins'. Described underneath as 'crisp and savoury' 'Baked golden brown for a versatile snack'.

Zov · 15/07/2025 18:44

When someone hasn't seen someone for a few months, and they say 'it's been a minute!' Who the F started this shit? I've only heard it this past year or two.

'Blue sky thinking.'

Both of these can fuck off off off!!! Hmm

Zov · 15/07/2025 18:45

Blondiney · 15/07/2025 18:05

Some meaningless bollocks about "tearing women down". Typically spouted on social media by the Be Kind crew.

I HATE 'be kind!' As has been said, it's just a way to shut women down, and is the new 'stop nagging.' Hmm

NannyOf8Girls · 15/07/2025 11:47

at the end of the day

This! And picky bits & people using the word “tea” in a food context, as in we had steak for tea. ITS DINNER!

NaeRolls · 15/07/2025 18:49

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 15/07/2025 16:09

Onboarding. Please, just stop it now.

And the slightly more ominous 'Offboarding"!

‘ Working tirelessly ‘ is trotted out by utility companies trying to find ways of ripping you off even more.

Apparently it’s impossible for people to work without doing it tirelessly. Working hard is actually very tiring, so working tirelessly suggests not putting much effort in.

NaeRolls · 15/07/2025 18:51

'the wife'

'We going to the shop' - It's 'We ARE going to the shop'!

Using 'brought' instead of 'bought' (and vice versa)

prelovedusername · 15/07/2025 18:52

the80sweregreat · 15/07/2025 18:28

Yes. ‘ pre loved ‘ is cringy.
It was so loved they wanted rid of it out the cupboards.

Ahem…

Hyperbowl · 15/07/2025 18:52

I haven’t RTFT so I don’t know if it’s already been said but “it’s giving”. 🙄

NaeRolls · 15/07/2025 18:53

'That Mitchell and Webb Sound - Step Up to the Plate'

nottoday3000 · 15/07/2025 18:54

Blue lighted

NaeRolls · 15/07/2025 18:57

ToWhitToWhoo · 15/07/2025 17:56

Oh YES

And:

'Blue skies thinking'

'Thinking outside the box' (so overused that it's in a box)

'Delivering' just about everything, and worse, 'deliverables'

'Incentivize'

And 'actioning' something (instead of just doing it)

Zov · 15/07/2025 18:58

spoonbillstretford · 15/07/2025 18:01

Moving Friends Tv GIF

This is the ONLY acceptable time PIVOT should be used. 😆

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 15/07/2025 19:03

‘Staying hydrated’ - WTF happened to ‘drinking enough water’?

And I really hate ‘brekkie’, though my FiL used to call it ‘brekker’ which is even worse!

IsabelleLeduc · 15/07/2025 19:05

Get to fuck/As (insert adjective)as fuck
Veggies/brekkie/ cuppa
And I hate the phrase 'running around after the children'

Housewife2010 · 15/07/2025 19:07

I loathe women being called "Karen" as an insult. The only Karen I know is such a lovely woman and I hate that her name is now used as a form of abuse.

Housewife2010 · 15/07/2025 19:08

Also people being referred to as "humans". No!

iseethembloom · 15/07/2025 19:21

undertaking (when not a funeral director, ie for ‘doing’)
utilising (for ‘using’)
adhering (when not about glue)
endeavouring (for ‘trying’)

The incompetent management where I work suddenly start using (‘utilising’) these wank words out of nowhere, whenever they attempt (‘endeavour’) to pull rank, and it makes them sound completely ridiculous.
