shining a light

lived experience

God, yes! "Lived experience" - don't they just mean "personal experience"?

Mansionscoldandgrey · 15/07/2025 15:44

Oh, my gosh!

AngelicKaty · 15/07/2025 15:35

I think Ruth Jones' character, Nessa, in "Gavin & Stacey" popularised that one.

I've never watched Gavin & Stacey but our weight loss club leader used to say it all the time. No it's not lush, it just tastes good

watersoul · 15/07/2025 15:45

Holibobs for holiday. “Bubbles”’for champagne. So infantile.

Allswellthatendswelll · 15/07/2025 15:46

Someone I follow on instagram uses phrases like "weekends done right" and it just gives me the ick I don't know why!

katseyes7 · 15/07/2025 15:46

*ExquisiteSocialSkills *
My mother, on several occasions, when we met someone she knew in the street, would introduce me as "The daughter."
Not my name. Just "The daughter."

BubblyBath178 · 15/07/2025 15:47

Anything described as ‘cheeky’.

Eg. Just having a cheeky glass of vino 🤮

AngelicKaty · 15/07/2025 15:48

namechangeGOT · 15/07/2025 11:58

Haha!! Not sure if this just in the area where I am from but we all say this!! ‘He turned round and said…’ as though everyone we’re having conversations with have their backs to us!!

Yup, my area too - central south coast by any chance? (Personally, I don't say it, but I grew up hearing it a lot in certain towns nearby and always imagined people spinning on the spot whilst talking! 😂)

Melonmango70 · 15/07/2025 15:48

Or even worse - "You/we got this!" Makes me want to repeatedly punch myself in the face! Rage!

AngelicKaty · 15/07/2025 15:49

SharkBaitOooHaha · 15/07/2025 11:54

I’m not being funny but

Damn, I use that one. Sorry SharkBait, I feel suitably chastised. 😞

Honeydewmelon123 · 15/07/2025 15:51

I hate it when people can’t speak properly … “you was…”, “they was”
and even worse when they write emails with it.

AngelicKaty · 15/07/2025 15:51

EasternEcho · 15/07/2025 12:04

You got this
Holding space
Your/her/his/its truth
Setting boundaries (over-used)
Narcissist (everyone is if you go by today's usage)
"Honouring" this, that and the other.

Basically any hackneyed overpathologizing everything, instagram therapy-speak phrases floating around today

And the first time I'd heard the first five of these was on MN! 😂

MangaMoo · 15/07/2025 15:52

“being your true, authentic self”

Like wtf - who else can anyone be but themselves 🙄

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 15/07/2025 15:53

Making love. Ugh.

Anyone who adds the word 'fact' onto a sentence.

Wintersgirl · 15/07/2025 15:53

Making memories....blurgh

ayepecking · 15/07/2025 15:55

"Take care"

AngelicKaty · 15/07/2025 15:55

"I'm loving it" (sodding McDonalds!) and any noun now contorted into a verb - I remember the first time I heard an athletics commentator saying that an athlete had "medalled" - Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr! 😡

BreatheAndFocus · 15/07/2025 15:56

Crack on
This colour eyeshadow will make your eyes pop
Good job (instead of Well Done)
Laters
Nom nom

Jaxhog · 15/07/2025 15:57

'the get-go'

what does it even mean?!

FizzingAda · 15/07/2025 15:57

Lessons will/must be learned. They usually never are.

We take (insert complaint of choice) very seriously…blah blah

overitallll · 15/07/2025 15:57

SassyAquaBear · 15/07/2025 15:40

Wet lease - heard it in relation to airlines

This is actually a thing though, a longstanding recognised industry term.

Allswellthatendswelll · 15/07/2025 15:58

MammaTo · 15/07/2025 12:07

Anyone using the word mama in a phrase, “keep going mama” or “you’re doing amazing mama”. Makes my body recoil.

Omg this. Or "hey tired mama" usually when someone wants to sell you something.

SassyAquaBear · 15/07/2025 15:58

Junk mail being called bumf.

This is probably only me. We kept some money in the safe at work for nights out. They called it The Chinese Highland money (a restaurant near work). It always annoyed me because it was actually called The Highland Chinese.😡

Jaxhog · 15/07/2025 15:58

'iconic'
Everything seems to be iconic these days! Which makes absolutely no sense.
