You asked for phrases but I hate the use of the word lush

SharpWriter · 15/07/2025 15:27

This really made me laugh 😃

Or ‘let me be honest…’

Well that would be preferable to the opposite!

FrillySocksAndDocs · 15/07/2025 15:30

Such an ick
Such a vibe
You do you
Making memories
Living my/their best life
Referring to themselves as Boy mum

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 15/07/2025 15:27

Ha. Less well educated you say? 🤫

Indeed.

When people post on social media on their birthday saying "onto the next chapter" or "chapter 30" etc

Yes I know a woman who does this. She talks about her kids as "my magic three", the whole family as her "Team Famalam Smith" and "Have the best day! Chapter 8 let’s do this Milo"

She also had a tiara with Wifey on it at her hen and advertises herself on Facebook as "Wifey".

12345mummy · 15/07/2025 15:31

Flesh it out 🤢

SpeculatingRooks · 15/07/2025 15:31

From newspapers
"Packing/packs on the PDA"
Showcasing as in "X showcases her cleavage..."

From mumsnet, when people are advised to deal with an errant Dh by "sitting him down" or "I'd sit him down and say.." it just grates me like you're some kind of school teacher or as if you can't talk standing up.

Agree, I absolutely hate it.

YouAreEntitledToMyOpinion · 15/07/2025 15:34

Say it with chest.

Yup I've been watching Love Island😁

Abhannmor · 15/07/2025 15:35

Wiglio · 15/07/2025 11:49

She turned round and said….

Very Scouse that one!

I think Ruth Jones' character, Nessa, in "Gavin & Stacey" popularised that one.

crunchybiscuitandtea · 15/07/2025 15:35

Brekkie 🙄

Keepingoin · 15/07/2025 15:36

People writing could of.... would of....

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 15/07/2025 15:36

AngelicKaty · 15/07/2025 15:31

Indeed.

Which is in itself a rather "marmite" expression.
How well or ill educated can you tell someone is by the use of an expression?

VictoriaEra · 15/07/2025 15:37

Wiglio · 15/07/2025 11:49

She turned round and said….

This! Agreed

Edited

We could never be friends
I see another poster said it below. Breakie.

Whats with the infantalising (is that a word?) of words? Is it to be cute?

Flyswats · 15/07/2025 15:37

Keepingoin · 15/07/2025 15:36

oh yes this makes me shriek, almost as much as "off of" which is even worse.

AngelicKaty · 15/07/2025 15:39

Redrosesposies · 15/07/2025 11:56

With all due respect

Yes, particularly when you just know it's about to be followed by a very disrespectful comment! 😕

somewhereintheworld · 15/07/2025 15:40

Hubby! Arrggh hate it 😂

SassyAquaBear · 15/07/2025 15:40

Wet lease - heard it in relation to airlines

Allseeingallknowing · 15/07/2025 15:41

Newgolddream70 · 15/07/2025 14:36

DS told me the male Karen is a Dave!

Nigel, surely!

AngelicKaty · 15/07/2025 15:42

Streamline2 · 15/07/2025 11:58

“So” at the start of every sentence.

Yes, and that's quite a modern verbal tic because I've only noticed it in the last 15 - 20 years.

katseyes7 · 15/07/2025 15:43

"Y'all"

RiverRed · 15/07/2025 15:43

Not my/your circus, not my/your monkeys - loathe this!

notnorman · 15/07/2025 15:43

LollyWillow · 15/07/2025 12:05

Fur babies
Reaching out
I know it's a word rather than a phrase but I really hate 'folks'. I don't mind Americans using it (it's just part of their vernacular) but anybody else; No.

As a teacher I use folks - sounds less weird than ‘humans’ or ‘people’
