How much water do you drink?

I'm suffering from a UTI which after nearly 2 days of antibiotics is clearing up nicely. The nurse told me to drink double what I drink normally as it's hot and do clear everything out which got me wondering.

How much water (actual water) do you drink on a daily basis? I usually aim for 2l but I wonder if I've just been a bit dehydrated in this weather hence the infection so should be aiming for 3l instead of 2.

Currently on 2.5l from 8am this morning, will fill my litre cup up and aim to finish that before the morning.

About 2 litres daily. I don’t drink tea or coffee or soft drinks so water is all I have.

OverlyFragrant · 13/07/2025 16:58

All in all, probably 1.5litres. Weather dependent.

I dont force myself to drink and rely on actually feeling thirsty.

Tdcp · 13/07/2025 16:59

I have about 4 litres a day. My lidded cup thing is almost a litre, I do 2 or 3 of those plus quite a few cups of tea.

Not enough. Probably only about 500mls of actual plain water. Loads of other liquids though.

If I went out and about I would drink loads more. But I only ever go out for about 10 minutes so don't need it as much.

Tdcp · 13/07/2025 17:00

Sorry I realise you said not tea or coffee ... I do have black tea no sugar though 😅

Cososom · 13/07/2025 17:03

2-3 litres per day. I used to barely drink any water at all, so this has made an enormous difference. My skin is genuinely glowing and drinking water helps me not to snack, so I've also lost 20lbs without too much effort!

ThymeandBasil · 13/07/2025 17:03

I drink a pot of coffee with breakfast, a cup of tea at lunch and a teapot of tea in the evening. On top of this I drink water as and when I'm thirsty. I have water by my bed at night and drink at least a glass ful or more during the night. And I take a bottle of water out with me when I go out. But I've never ever calculated how much water I drink in a day.

ChattyChai · 13/07/2025 17:03

3 to 4 litres a day

Jumpthewaves · 13/07/2025 17:04

2L should be plenty, you can overhydrate if you drink too much too quickly too.

ImAPreMadonna · 13/07/2025 17:05

Minimum 2 litres. Today, so far, 2.5lts.

Cososom · 13/07/2025 17:05

Actually, thinking about it, it's probably more like 4 litres, as I didn't factor in the enormous bottle I keep by my bed!

IReallyLoveItHere · 13/07/2025 17:05

About 1.5l herbal tea, I hate cold drinks.

Are you peeing regularly and is it a light straw colour? That's what you should be aiming for NOT drinking so much its clear.

BeamMeUpCountMeIn · 13/07/2025 17:08

Probably about 4L water in this weather as I'm active.
My wee is never dark and never had a UTI or infection.

FurForksSake · 13/07/2025 17:09

None. Liquid is liquid and I dislike water due to sensory difficulties.

Iloveeverycat · 13/07/2025 17:10

Today no water at all. One tea 3 coffees.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 13/07/2025 17:11

Actual water? About 2 glass fulls 🙈

I do drink other drinks (mostly tea…)

LobsterWeb · 13/07/2025 17:14

I aim for 2 litres a day of fluids including water and the odd cup of tea. I have one kidney and my nephrologist encourages me to drink plenty of water.

Pickingmyselfup · 13/07/2025 17:15

I only really drink water apart from my daily pepsi max and coffee and wine a couple of days a week.

I drink more water on a workday because I have my big cup, should really keep one at home too for the evenings.

TheChosenTwo · 13/07/2025 17:15

@LobsterWeb have you always had one kidney? Ignore if it’s too intrusive to ask, only
my brother lost one in a car accident and he’s always drank lots of water too as advised.

Girlintheframe · 13/07/2025 17:16

2L of water then coffee/tea on top so prob about 3L all in all

WhistlingStraits · 13/07/2025 17:18

I only drink water when I’m at the gym. I drink very little of anything.

lljkk · 13/07/2025 17:19

plain water: rarely, I grew up somewhere with bad tasting tap water & I just don't like water.. sometimes I'm overseas & the tap water is nice so easier to drink. I will end up drinking plain water in some situations, eg. exercise for hours on a dry day.

Other fluids consumed in a glass or a cup: probably 1.5-2 litres/day total, more if I went for many hours cycle ride I suppose. Urine colour is fine, btw. I eat a lot of "wet" foods, too, like porridge or soup.

Iloveonlyitaliantoastedbread · 13/07/2025 17:26

I've been consciously upping my water consumption this hot summer but normally I don't drink anywhere near enough water.
I think a lot of it depends on your activity levels and the climate and your own metabolism.
Just remember if you're drinking two three four liters a day on a very hot day when you're out ,and presumably perspiring, don't forget to replenish your electrolytes. There are special powders and drinks for that.
Drinking so much plain water will wash away electrolytes particularly sodium.
You can get into trouble if you are deplete in electrolytes.

WallaceinAnderland · 13/07/2025 17:27

Urine is supposed to be clear. If it's not, you're not drinking enough water.

BlondieMuver · 13/07/2025 17:29

Normally 3 litres a day, whilst it's been hot nearer 4. I don't drink any juice or soft drinks. Never drink coffee and maybe 2 cups of tea a day, maximum.
