Cheese on a stick

The monarchy. Learning about the monarchy at primary school then again at secondary school. Accepting the taxes, charges, etc which go to them. (Also why is Prince Andrew still a free man?)

JustGoClickLikeALightSwitch · 09/07/2025 21:43

Animals just living in our houses, going about their business.

I am the world's biggest dog fan but it still blows my mind sometimes. Like - I'm here, getting on with my human things, and one or more creatures of the same species (how?) sized anywhere from a large rat through to a pony are lying on me, sharing my meal, communicating with their eyes/vocal chords, being nearby but reacting to my presence, movements etc, and you are near-guaranteed a dopamine hit every time you touch them. It's amazing.

Dancing

Totally! Why is it acceptable to go into a certain room ( club etc) and move your body into different shapes because there’s music playing?! This has always bemused me

Also sleeping. We all accept at a certain time its OK to go to a different room and make ourselves unconscious for a while!

dontcomeatme · 09/07/2025 21:44

Every single human grows hair in their head, but it's the societal norm for womens to be long and mens to be short. Why? Weird.

BetterWithPockets · 09/07/2025 21:44

Drinking the equivalent of breast milk of other animals. (I mean, I do this, I’m not saying it to be superior about it — it’s just quite weird when you stop to think about it!)

plantsnpants · 09/07/2025 21:45

Having a system that allows people to take and not contribute

Northerngirl821 · 09/07/2025 21:51

Horse riding. Imagine taking any other animal, strapping a metal bit in its mouth, sitting on its back and then making it jump over objects, run at top speed, pull a heavy carriage along or prance around an arena in front of crowds purely for human entertainment. I genuinely don’t get why horse riding is still seen as ethically acceptable in this day and age.

Shatteredallthetimelately · 09/07/2025 21:53

Age...differences.
One among a few....

Can legally have sex at 16, but not watch someone else do it in a movie at the cinema until you're 18.

ApplesinmyPocket · 09/07/2025 21:56

Cheese on a stick is getting an unfair rep here!

A cube of good cheddar, a sliver of pineapple, and a tiny onion delivers a fantastic taste experience. No, really it does.

So many weird words for things that don’t make sense 🫠😂

We have fingertips but not toe tips?

Cow when it’s food becomes beef.
Pig when it’s food becomes pork.
But chicken is just chicken? 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️😂

We park on a driveway but some roads we drive on are called parkways?

We can be overwhelmed or underwhelmed but no one is ever simply whelmed? 🤷🏻‍♀️🫠

The English language is a strange beast.

You're just trying to wind me up to take the wind out of my sails!

Sugargliderwombat · 09/07/2025 21:57

Pet dogs.

That women go through menstruation every month and give birth and breastfeed and yet we're just basically supposed to get on with full time work and everything else.

This plus menopause

WTF?

Merryoldgoat · 09/07/2025 22:05

Poverty

RetiringRita · 09/07/2025 22:08

Thongs on either sex

Pet snakes

Pet fish

Plastic Surgery on 18 year olds.

Stop and search with no specific reason. The police computers can tell if a car is taxed and who it belongs to.

School uniform with logos. Sanctions for not being able to meet uniform rules.

Fines for parents of SEN kids who are not having their needs met.

Rubnish food in secondary schools with overpriced food being supplied by commercial companies.

Allowing 11 year olds to leave school not able to swim.

Sleep.

Wearing special clothes to basically black out every single night for hours.

It’s a good job sleeping is considered normal then as we wouldn’t last Very long without it ! I think that’s what is known as a biological need, like breathing.

Especially the Grand National which seems exceptionally cruel!

I cant tell you how helpful and profound this is for me right now!!! thank you.

I wish you the absolute best in your own personal situation - mine is a work in progress so I know full well its a complicated road, and the guilt can be profound, but we as a human race made up all these rules to survive and therefore we can unmake them. Love and respect is a two way street and being forced to accept someone's love in a way that only suits them or their definition of love... is NOT love. Wishing you the absolute best.

Booboobagins · 09/07/2025 22:14

Strobbery · 09/07/2025 15:50

🙄

We wanted to. We fought for the right to do this and to be paid the same as men. It took a while.

You really think women should be kept at home and not allowed to work?

We still dont have equal pay. We have equal pensions rights which is therefore discriminatory. That's what ps me off about society and women who aren't deep thinkers side with men!

Petitchat · 09/07/2025 22:17

mustytrusty · 09/07/2025 21:32

Keeping some animals in the house with you and happily eating others.

Wow!
Never thought of it like that before!!

Petitchat · 09/07/2025 22:20

Flying...
We're just sitting in a metal box, way up in the sky.
Drinking and eating up there as well.

Oceangrey · 09/07/2025 22:20

Hair is quite weird when you think about it. All these dead cells just staying attached.

Lots of things already mentioned. The Monarchy and more than that the entire aristocracy. Why the F should I give you a title because your ancestors stole some land or an even more powerful person owned them a favour. And those titles do actually mean something in our society, even though they shouldn't.

I find inequality in the home weird. Women have to do the very early bit with babies but there's no reason I can think of that they should do the majority of childcare after than, let alone housework. It's equal in my house.

emmetgirl · 09/07/2025 22:24

Getting pissed regularly like it’s the only way to have a “good time”.
complete madness.
