To start:
You're not a feminist if you're a "Mrs"
You're not an environmentalist if you're a meat eater

You are not a great analyst if you resort to blanket statements ?

Which bank is it? I notice the older ones seem to use them more. Whereas I have a savings account with a digital bank and they're always Firstname Surname.

I have three but I’m pretty sure this was Lloyds.

All of which meat eaters eat.
Nothing touches the amount of water consumed in the animal agricultural industry.

Not all meat eaters eat the same things, some don’t eat those. But no where in my post did I say eating meat wasn’t bad for the environment. Eating the things I mentioned and other foods that fall into those categories is also bad for the environment and also local communities, so I stand by what I said that if you eat those things you’re not an environmentalist.

Errrrr, not all vegans eat them either.

You’re not an environmentalist if you eat food shipped from thousands of miles away, take away main food sources from the native population or that requires deforestation and large water quantities in scarce water areas to produce the food quantities needed for demand. Such as avocados, quinoa and cashews.

That’s not true.
Everybody consumes shipped products all over the world. You never drink tea, coffee, cocoa? Don’t tell me you only drink milk and water. You never eat rice, bananas, chocolate, avocados, oranges, mangoes etc? These are all exotic products that need to be shipped all over the world to different countries. It is called trade.
You can consume these products and still be an environmentalist. You would have to go back to the Middle Ages and live like a medieval person and eat their diet to be a true environmentalist. No thank you!

So then if you're not a "true" environmentalist, what are you? Because you can't be an environmentalist if you're not actually being an environmentalist.

You might care about the environment, but unless you're doing everything you can to protect it, you can't call yourself an environmentalist (I don't by the way, I do what I can but also I need to live).

How so?

You’re not a feminist if you limit women’s choices regarding how they would like to be addressed.

This all the time.
A woman has a right to choose. She can be Mrs, Miss, Ms, nothing or any other prefix or name that she she chooses. She can make her mother's name, her own her father's, her husband's or use one of her own choosing

You don't have a healthy balanced diet (by definition) if you're a vegan.

You’re not an experienced mumsnetter if you forget to put “light hearted” in the title of a thread like this.

I presume this thread was to follow that pattern, but quickly became side tracked?

aswarmofmidges · 10/07/2025 08:55

Doing everything you can isn’t the same as doing everything and sometimes doing something matters and makes enough impact even if it’s not perfect

uou don’t need to be a perfect parent , just good enough, you don’t need to have a perfect home, just good enough and you don’t need to be a perfect environmentalist , just good enough

and don’t dictate how people get to good enough as that just shows your limited understanding

Until there's a male version of Mrs, the word reflects the very essence of patriarchy.

Of course they are but why do men get to have one umbrella term (master is for children).

I think if honorifics were being created from scratch today (as in they never existed) there is no way they would create them to reflect women’s marital status and not men’s. They would either reflect both sexes or neither. Or do you think they would be created in 2025 to show only women’s?

If we think about why the Mrs/Mrs distinction was made, it was probably to do with being able to distinguish between whether the man responsible for her was her husband or her father. There was a sound legal reasoning for it, even if the basis of that reasoning would be recognised as sexist today. Given that a woman single or married is her own legal entity nowadays, I would argue that making that distinction is simply challenge the last traces of an old way of doing something. Once the sexism that was the reason for a tradition is gone, does that make the tradition itself sexist today?

Hairgrip · 10/07/2025 09:16

It's almost as if there not an entire board specifically for nonsense like this.

Did I say that?

I'd just never want to be aligned with the likes of modern feminists so have no interest in the label. You're proving me right beautifully.

Itsnotallaboutyoulikeyouthink · 10/07/2025 09:27

Well I’m an environmentalist but I eat meat. I however have not been in an aeroplane . If environmentalist stuck to everything that they should be doing then we literally wouldn’t be able to do anything. My impact is also only ever going to be a small fraction of the mega rich.

Theunamedcat · 10/07/2025 09:38

DearMartha · 10/07/2025 08:42

Increased use of herbicides pesticides artificial fertiliser not to mention the air miles if you really want to help the planet you will eat locally and seasonally

S1K1PPSO · 10/07/2025 09:41

Op, you are not coming across as particularly bright here. And I've seen better trolling today.

UpMyself · 10/07/2025 10:07

I use Miss not Ms. I'd prefer to use Ms, but

  • there are people who seem to think it's an indication of 'living with' or 'divorced', which is their problem but it annoys me because to me it means 'adult female'
  • people address me as Mrs Myself despite me stating Ms Myself. As far as I'm concerned Mrs Myself is my DM not me.

I was a feminist because I thought it meant equality for men and women. I don't know what it means any more.

we now have Mx - i have used it on several online forms and orders - which gives no clue to sex or marital status

It got a bit hijacked, but if more people use it, or just drop the honorific completely, we'll all be fine.

I'll add one: you're not a woman if you're a man.
