What do you think of people with colourful hair? As in different colour hair - pinks, greens, blues, purples, - big bright colourful hair

I always had my hair in a natural brown until last year and I started getting it bleached and highlighted to get some fun bright colours in my hair. I don't want to be known so I won't give my hair colours away but I did a new colour recently and I love it.

I get two reactions.

  1. where people love it
  2. they hate it but mabe they won't say it but their tone and attitude - I sense something.

For me I think there is too much madness in the world and I am not hurting anyone and I need more bright and cheerful in my life.

Some people probably think I am a clown or something. I don't know. I really love colourful hair.

I dressed a bit different in teenage years, following trends but did them my way. When I got a job customer facing it was not acceptable to be so different but I did have normal hair colour as was in school and then working. In my mid 50’s I’m employed in a non customer facing role so at last I can colour my hair as I wish. I’m not political or queer, I’m me. I’m totally astounded at so many negative responses

if that’s your hair, it’s MAGNIFICENT! Especially the first photo. I am very jealous.

You are really saying people are the same as/similar to Andrew Tate because of their opinions (everyone is allowed their own opinions even if you don't agree with them) of bright hair colours?

That says so much more about you and your intellectual maturity than it does them.

I personally don’t think you are AS bad as Andrew Tate followers but it’s close, you are definitely a person to avoid if someone wants a happy life.

Google agrees with me-

That works out perfectly for both of us then! 🤣

DryDay · 06/07/2025 13:49

I think it looks really rough. It’s always really pasty, dull, unhappy looking people that do it and it looks awful.

AnotherGreyMorning · 06/07/2025 13:51

I just don't think it looks good.

I love bleached white hair. Or the natural colours.

But greens and blues and purples just look shit imo.

Nannyfannybanny · 06/07/2025 13:51

Blimey, when you thought you have read it all.low social economics,my friend with the red hair, was an antique dealer in italy.she has a 5bed 3 bathroom seaside bungalow,an apartment, original art deco art, features, dresses immaculately always. Her hair costs a fortune.

OH NOOOOO! ETHEL'S HAD A BLUE RINSE!!

SHE MUST HAVE BEEN INFECTED BY THE WOKE MIND VIRUS!!!

😂

🤦‍♀️ take 100 people with blue hair. Take 100 people with natural hair. Ask each group their politicians beliefs/leanings. Which group do you think would have the highest percentage of transactivists/extreme leftist type folk?

I know it might be difficult twisting yourself like a pretzel to try and deny the answer, but we all know the answer...

There you go judging others and assuming everyone thinks the same as you - they don't. When you mature, travel, meet lots of different people, you'll realise that small mindedness holds you back. People aren't a collection of stereotypes soley attributed because of how they look. Free your mind and relax, you might make some friends. 💗

Take a look at any photo of transgender Pride events or protests and you'll see a lot of brightly-coloured hair. There's loads of evidence that a majority of women who identify as trans are autistic or otherwise ND. Men who identify as woman tend not to do it because they hope to pass as ordinary women, but many non-trans allies dye their hair as a sign of support.

That doesn't mean all people with brightly coloured hair are ND, of course, but it's certainly an indicator. Many lesbians are gender critical and I know some who have stopped dying their hair blue or green or pink because they don't want to be associated with the trans cause.

popcornpower2025 · 06/07/2025 12:33

This sums up a lot of the views on here nicely though. It represents a preoccupation with how people perceive you and a desperate attempt to be different and interesting, while at the same time making your whole personality about how you look. I'll gladly change my opinion when I meet someone with brightly coloured hair who doesn't give off these vibes

But isn’t the way anyone dresses and styles their hair at least partially about how they want to be perceived 🤷‍♀️

ChaToilLeam · 06/07/2025 13:54

Have fun with it, OP! I have silver-grey hair now but every once in a while I stick some colour in it.

Am definitely not a supporter of the alphabet soup brigrade, in case anyone was wondering. 🤔

I think neurodivergent

and the old ladies in the seventies with blue/ purple / pink rinses ???

Yup. It's hard luck on anyone who just likes blue hair (say) but the fact is that blue hair is now a badge worn by members of a certain club.

crackofdoom · 06/07/2025 13:57

I'm feeling an enormous sense of relief right now.

No wonder I still hold the core belief that most people are basically nice- it turns out the wankers have been avoiding me because of my blue hair. Long may it continue!🥳

whatsinanameeh · 06/07/2025 14:00

I'm not neurodiverse, gay or politically motivated and I don't think I'm a No hoper and I have coloured hair. I'm middle aged tho, I just like it. I didn't realise it signalled anything anymore as it's so common amongst all the people I see from young teens to old nanas. I wouldn't think anything at all of you. Didn't realise people thought so much of me Confused

DiggingHoles · 06/07/2025 13:00

People are simple posting what they privately think. If you have bright hair and they judge you, they would normally never tell you, they would just keep their distance. They would be polite to you in person, but you'd never get to know them or visa versa.

I'm not sure of your point. I know that people are posting their private thoughts that they wouldn't normally say, doesn't change my observation that those thoughts are from judgemental and mean pp.

And also now according to you, two faced.

My point stands!

Icantfindanewname · 06/07/2025 14:03

I had midnight blue into purple last year, and absolutely loved it. It had nothing to do with sexuality or politics. Ok, I'm in my 50s, but I had been diagnosed with cancer (again) and thought I was about to lose it (again) with chemo. I didn't end up having chemo, and the upkeep was a b@gger, but so worth it!

Riverswims · 06/07/2025 14:08

that it rarely looks good granted it might when you step out the salon

LittlleMy · 06/07/2025 14:17

Comedycook · 06/07/2025 09:35

The thing is it's usually done really badly....uneven, patchy, faded, roots on show, usually dry and not well styled.

Same. I see very few where it’s done really well with the desired wow factor. Also I find the colours sometimes (reds especially), clash horribly with the other bright colours sometimes worn. Which is why nature got it so right with the colour palette she chose!

Also, did the nanas of old start this anyway with their blue and pink rinses? Why’d they go out of fashion?!

Whoosh!

Catterbat · 06/07/2025 14:19

Some of these comments are hilarious. I’ve never assumed people with brightly coloured hair are making a political statement 😂 I know lots of people in their 40s and 50s with dyed hair and none of them are particularly political. Most of them were grungey in the 90s and just carried on. I see no problem with wanting to look different and experiment with hair colour and clothes. Why would you want to look like everyone else? Trust me, the bright coloured people are judging you right back, vanilla brigade 🤪

Tedsshed · 06/07/2025 12:18

I spent yesterday at an event with 150 women, most of whom are lesbians, and only one had brightly-coloured hair. Please re-think this assumption.

This is hysterical. My BFF is a sometime lesbian and looks like Evana Trump, I'm a heterosexual ex slapper and I fancy a Zandra Rose next year. My pink bob will be worn with pearls. So I wonder what that says.

PluckyChancer · 06/07/2025 14:21

Arseynal · 06/07/2025 11:44

Bit of a rose, peach or violet tint - no thoughts. It was very popular about 10 years ago over pale blonde or white hair. Can look amazing if done well.

Dark red - you want to have a “colour” but you have dark hair. Still popular amongst old ladies in my community but was popular amongst young people in late 90s. My mum has this look - she’s in her 70s but almost no grey.

Older women with green/blue/pink - Timmy Mallet adjacent is the best way of putting it that I’ve ever heard. Will likely be quite extrovert or “fun”. Likely to be left leaning and work in a non-corporate people focussed job. Will possibly be a lot more judgemental and less accepting than they think they are which would make me hold back.

Younger women with green/blue/pink - the conventional uniform amongst politically extreme identity obsessives. Often far left gender ghouls who self identify into sexual minorities and mental health conditions, use phrases like “pan-queer non-binary” and think they are saying something relevant, often carrying stuffed animals and using walking aids (also colourful). Intolerant. I’d be cautious. If you have paid even the slightest attention to the shattering of both the political right and the political left over the last 10-15 years then you can’t have failed to see the rise in this tribe as far left identiterians. If you aren’t particularly politically engaged then fair enough, you could easily pass them in the street as a bunch of fun loving kids. If you don’t think the way you cut/colour/style your hair, the way you dress and the make-up etc you either wear or don’t wear sends out social cues about your “tribe” then you have completely failed to understand that we are social animals. “I just wear what I like” without any acknowledgement that it’s exactly the same as what other people in your tribe also like i.e. it’s the fashion in your set, shows a staggering lack of self awareness - especially when it’s accompanied by assuming someone else is a mindless little sheep with a “greige” house. “I wear what I like - it’s just coincidentally the same as all the people I want to be liked by - you follow trends” is not the banging insult that people think it is. Having coloured hair is no more or less conventional than every other “uniform” out there. I was a huge goth in my youth - entirely conventional and an age appropriate exploration and pushing of boundaries. It was the most conforming period of my life - I think that sort of in-group conventionality really appeals to teens. There is a lot of safety in there. Obviously when I was in it I thought I was desperately unconventional and radical - just like everyone else.

Wow, I thought it was only ChatGPT who churned out reams of creative rubbish. Sadly, you’ve clearly lost touch with reality, so maybe you do live on Mars! 🤔
