I think if it's not in already tonight then it will be before 10am tomorrow.

Why is whether someone cries or not a good indicator of their competence of lack thereof?

Could this myth possibly have come about because women tend to cry more easily than men do you think?

As far as I recall, Liz Truss, in cohoots with Kwasi Kwarteng, produced a mini budget that cost the economy £30 million and she was dry eyed and completely unrepentant.

Yes, even to this day, swanning around the looney fringes of MAGA in the US.

LoudSnoringDog · 03/07/2025 05:40

Badenoch is an utter disgrace. She kicked and kicked Reeves whilst she was clearly down.

sesquipedalian · 03/07/2025 06:00

If I were Rachel Reeves, I’d resign (and would also do so knowing that no PM has survived the resignation of their Chancellor). Irrespective of the rights and wrongs of her policies (and I’m no Labour voter), she is trying to balance the books and has been stymied at every turn. I’d tell the chaps in her party to do one.

I think you mean 30 billion not million ! It is so mad the figures involved !
I don't really follow politics ( my blood pressure can't cope ) but I couldn't get over how rough RR looked! She looks 20 yrs older than the last time I saw her.

Sandysandyfeet · 03/07/2025 06:04

I know too many people who have lost their jobs as a direct result of her policies (mainly NI) to feel an enormous amount of sympathy.

ilovesooty · 03/07/2025 00:55

More decent than Badenoch, certainly.

Why is Rachel's tears a Kemi Badenoch problem? You're angry at Kemi for Rachel's tears? Why? Why is Rachel's tears a burden for Kemi to bear? Why have you singled out Kemi? Is this the classic white woman tears and a brown or black person must suffer for it? Of all the people in the Commons, it is Kemi that is the worse and should be held accountable for Rachel's feelings?

Loveduvetdays · 03/07/2025 06:09

Catsinaflat · 03/07/2025 04:18

Whatever the reason for the tears (and let’s face it most of us have had a time when tears have overwhelmed us at one time or another), I was more concerned with Badenoch’s low blow reaction. I despise the braying mob in Parliament - if kids acted like that in the classroom they would be excluded.

Exactly, that was my first thought. She should be ashamed of herself. If that happened in the workplace, she would be accused of bullying. It was a personal attack on RR about her appearance. I don't agree with a lot of what is going on and it is having a detrimental impact on my finances, but I have a heart and don't like to see another person in distress or upset.

Tiredandtiredagain · 03/07/2025 06:13

Very unkind post @Neverendingwashingbasket , shame on you!

Completely agree. Totally inappropriate and straight out of the Reform playbook.
If she had shown an ounce of empathy she would have looked like a proper leader.

Wolmando · 03/07/2025 06:22

They have no one to replace her, who do people think the replacement could be and why. She was the one they were really bigging up out of everyone, though we then found out since then that the CV wasn't quite as it seemed.

LancashireButterPie · 03/07/2025 06:28

Miley23 · 03/07/2025 00:37

I think she should take some sick time before making any decisions. She looks totally stressed. I honestly think the media need to back off. Disgusted by Badenoch going at her when she was clearly distressed.

Edited

I completely agree with this.
I'm a floating voter and TBH I'm disgusted both by Rachel's attempted PIP reforms and Kemi's reaction to another person's distress.
Distinct lack of empathy by both of them.

BlueandPinkSwan · 03/07/2025 06:41

The bitchiness is in full swing on here. Why don't you make fucking bets on the resignation time while you're at it ?
This is a horrible post in all respects.
I'm commenting because it's free speech and like everyone else I have a opinion on it.

It's because Kemi went after her when she was crying. Nothing to do with Kemi's race.

HPFA · 03/07/2025 06:50

Badenoch is a horrible person.

I dont think there is any party that could really govern Britain today - people keep voting to make the country poorer and then
complain when it gets poorer.

Awful that there seems to be glee around someone being so stressed that she has to resign , she has after all just been attempting to do her job and follow the manifesto commitments set out by the wider party.

This.

I still think they inherited an economy in tatters at the time that a devastating war is looming and here we are.. trying to keep things as usual (understandable) while expecting a woman to find the proverbial money tree that we all know doesn’t exist.

GrandmasCat · 03/07/2025 06:54

I also want to know, why the speaker can have such a strong argument with an MP outside of the chamber. I thought he was expected to sit on the fence, not push a cabinet minister to tears.

NetZeroZealot · 03/07/2025 06:56

The ‘similar threads’ algorithm is struggling a bit with this one 😁

Britneyfan · 03/07/2025 06:58

@ReignOfError @Beautifulcreatures2 I expect there is a bit more leeway given to a wartime PM, however even before you cited this example of Churchill I was thinking to myself I bet if a male chancellor DID act like this people would be a hell of a lot more empathetic about it.

I do understand the worries about men in particular understanding her tears as some form of weakness, but unfortunately I think that just demonstrates how far we still have to go in terms of dismantling the patriarchy. And I wish it were not still the case that a woman in her position has to think about themselves as a representative of women in authority rather than a person in authority full stop.

@GoSteadyReady I think the optics of this are unfortunate, and I understand the racist trope of the “angry black woman”, however I don’t think this is actually to do with race on this occasion. I’m not a big fan of Kemi Badenoch generally and like others I think she should have backed off when she saw her distress and not called attention to it for political point-scoring. It’s not a good look for her. At the same time, it’s rare that any leader in the House of Commons misses the slightest opportunity to point-score or attack any hint of vulnerability given the very macho environment, so it’s perhaps understandable that she felt this was fair game at the time.

Some peeps just love the race card. As a pp said akin to class room bullying.
Kick someone when they are down on the floor. Kemi showed very poor judgement, and would have been better off keeping her mouth shut on the subject if she couldn't be a half way decent person.
There are going to be so many peeps looking like complete twats, including on here, if it becomes known her upset was due to bad news prior to going into PMQ or something serious in her personal life.
These are the same peeps who kick others and enjoy the drama of the pile on.
There were plenty of them on MN when the Princess of Wales was off the scene for months, the bitchiness really set in. when it was revealed she had cancer they either shut up or were suddenly full of sympathy.

PopeJoan2 · 03/07/2025 07:04

Her distress suggests that she is tsking one for the team. I absolutely despise Keir Starmer. The man has had power for just one year and he has already lost his mind.

Are you sure? Where has this line come from. Seems whipped up online.

HopingForTheBest25 · 03/07/2025 07:06

I'm torn - we've probably all been upset at work at some point. It's awful when that happens in public. And hers is a tough job!
But otoh, she's paid a lot of money to do that job and crying in the House of Commons is not a good look - a chancellor has to inspire confidence.

The overriding impression I have of Labour right now is that they are frightened and tinkering around the edges of things, going after low hanging fruit rather than having the courage to reform this country from top to bottom.
They aren't addressing any of the public's major concerns, like not being able to get an nhs dentist, waiting times for treatment, local hospitals closures, general infrastructure deterioration etc.
