What time do you think Rachel will hand in her notice tomorrow?

I think if it's not in already tonight then it will be before 10am tomorrow.

If you think a statement like that would have stopped the speculation you’re a stranger to the internet. Her aim was clearly to make it through - she only had to sit there after all - which would have felt like the only option to take to prevent conspiracies spiralling.

It wouldn't have stopped the speculation but she made the wrong choice to try and sit through it. On top of everything else this week, another wrong choice adds to the shambles and chaos.

Sure, and she couldn't hack it when she got there.

We all listened to her boasting about how she was going to be so much better than before and fix the economy.

That hubris was vain and silly, and completely unnecessary.

Now it's all inevitably gone badly she is blubbering away, her inflated ego having deserted her now.

Pride comes before a fall .

Agree all that posturing doesn’t help. Same with some a fair few Labour politicians. They bring it on themselves.

Her unpleasant sneering and superior attitude when she was in the shadow cabinet has done her no favours. If you take that approach, you have to make sure you perform when you're given the chance. Reeves has demonstrated she is incompetent with no credible ideas, as well as being a deceitful liar. Lacking in both integrity and talent - hardly surprising she's now deeply unpopular.

MalinandGo · 03/07/2025 08:39

All politicians say these things. Literally all of them. All parties, both sexes.

Whether you agree with their politics or not, it’s part of the game to criticise the policies of your opposition and say you will do better yourself.

I realise rational online political arguments are futile though.

Your misogyny depresses me but nothing new in political comment. I’m astonished that any women go into politics tbh.

It couldn't be just because she's nowhere near as good as she told us she was, it has to be because she's a woman?

It's not difficult for any politician to avoid boasting about how much better than their predecessors they are going to be. They should know things won't go to plan and take that into account and show some humility, but she couldn't do that, her lack of experience had her boasting about it all and now she's crying about it all.

It is very immature male or female.

Neverendingwashingbasket · 03/07/2025 00:15

God do you think she will try and ride it out? She could do, I would be very surprised though. My thinking is she will cut and run.

Of course she will
She has no shame, no honour, no competence

ilovesooty · 03/07/2025 00:55

More decent than Badenoch, certainly.

How low a bar are you seeking to clear here?

The words you use. Criticise politicians factually, why not?

This is nasty playground stuff.

Neverendingwashingbasket · 03/07/2025 08:28

They could have put out a statement saying she had personal problems or an emergency. The backlash wouldn't have been as bad as this.

The scenes yesterday were not nice to see at all. The woman was completely broken.

Yet you found it in you to start this nasty thread.

Don’t worry OP, we’ve got your number.

The markets don’t want her to go. she’s clearly doing something right.

Oh god, can people just leave her alone for five minutes? The appalling misogynistic treatment RR has had from day one of her role is sadly predictable but insidious. All this 'Rachel from Accounts' crap.

She was genuinely upset at work. Ever had that happen to you, OP? She's a human, and she has a job with stress levels and responsibilities that the vast majority of people will never come near to experiencing. And I'm quite sure that if she were a man and had a bit of an emotional chin wobble at work, she wouldn't be being hung up to dry in this manner.

MalinandGo · 03/07/2025 08:42

All of that is factual.

She boasted to everyone about how she was going to fix the economy.

I'm criticising that poor judgement. Telling people you are better than those before you before you have actually achieved anything is not a good idea, that's a fact.

snowmichael · 03/07/2025 08:47

Petitchat · 03/07/2025 04:33

Maybe she suddenly had a conscience and realised the amount of hurt and damage she had been trying to inflict on innocent people?

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

Good one
Did not expect to get a laugh out of this thread

A sweepstake on her resignation is a bit distasteful.

“A bit”? It’s like wolves setting on a fallen prey. Not nice.

bugger bus
The most wonderful typo 😂

🤣🤣

kind of you not to mention all the others! The voice to message is weird. t can go sling nicely then all of a sudden it'll throw out utter shite & having been good with the keyboard previously I don't think to check before posting 🤣🤣🤣 must try harder!

Setyoufree · 03/07/2025 08:49

She's embarrassingly bad at her job and she's taking us all down with her so I'd like her to go. The crying is not the reason.

This is the point though, she's simply not up to the job. She's at best a middling public sector supervisor, this is all way beyond her and it shows.

snowmichael · 03/07/2025 08:51

Wolmando · 03/07/2025 06:22

They have no one to replace her, who do people think the replacement could be and why. She was the one they were really bigging up out of everyone, though we then found out since then that the CV wasn't quite as it seemed.

If she resigns, Wes Streeting will be her replacement, because he's perceived by the back benchers a a safe pair of hands and right now they have clout
If Keir fires her, he has more freedom to replace her with who he wants, and Private Eye says he is favouring Timms for higher office, but Timms is despised on the Labour benches

Keir Starmer positioned labour as the party of integrity. Rachel Reeves was found to have lied repeatedly about her career history. People are rightly disgusted by her behaviour.

snowmichael · 03/07/2025 08:57

Applesonthelawn · 03/07/2025 08:13

The point is if she goes, the PM often goes shortly after, and then we get Ange. The only bright side to that is that then Labour will be unquestionably unelectable for another generation.

Rayner doesn't have the ruthlessness necessary to come out on top in the battle for Keir's job
And the Unions always seem to prevent any woman becoming leader
If I was foolish enough to bet, my money would be on Wes Streeting

I know....
Whenever I watch it, I can't believe these are adults in charge of a country.

I've given up watching / listening these days as it's just a waste of time. The exchanges are a series of low blows, crap jokes and taunts, not at all informative or useful. All with a bunch of braying halfwits in the background.

Extravirginolive · 03/07/2025 08:48

And the posts putting the boot into Kemi B as per. She’s not responsible for the market reaction to Labour’s failings. She didn’t make Reeves cry. That was Starmer.
