I think if it's not in already tonight then it will be before 10am tomorrow.

You have no way of knowing that.

Have you read the story unfolding in the media today?

ginasevern · 03/07/2025 12:22

I think she should take some sick time before making any decisions. She looks totally stressed. I honestly think the media need to back off. Disgusted by Badenoch going at her when she was clearly distressed.

Disgusted but not surprised.

pointythings · 03/07/2025 12:24

Well, the Chancellor is still here, the markets have settled and this thread hasn't aged well, has it?

Disgusted but not surprised.

How dare an opposition point out the government front bench looks divided!

Why do you keep answering peoples questions mocking things they haven't said?

Badenoch was digging at her for 'looking miserable', when she had tears coming down her cheeks. That's what people are pointing at. That's over and above usual PMQs banter. It's nasty.

The miserable comment was before the crying. It was Starmer that set off Reeves.

50andfailing · 03/07/2025 12:51

A personal issue that caused her to cry in the House of Commons??? But today it's all smiles.

A personal issue.....MY ARSE....

No she didn’t

It is always difficult to see anyone in distress and especially when it is so public and so open to scrutiny but having sat with victims of her cuts and witnessed the distress caused by her policies I find that I have very little sympathy for her. She is in a situation of her own making. She hasn’t gone for the workshy or the wealthy instead she has attacked the most vulnerable in society and she has done it without compassion or care. She has penalised the very people who it would be expected that a labour government would protect. She has gone for the poorest, least able, most challenged people in our society and has had a sharp reality check of her actions. It’s not pretty.

No, I don’t like to see her tears but she has had a savage lesson is actions having consequences. She has attacked the least powerful, those who she thought had no voice and found, shockingly for her, that other members of her own parliament had more integrity. They do have a voice - a very powerful one.

Obviously I have no idea if it was a genuine personal issue, but it's quite possible to have something going on that impacts your work one day and then be quite together the next. Not all personal issues that cause you to become overwhelmed one day results in days/weeks of feeling tearful.

It is. Some participants have been all over three different threads and are clearly enjoying themselves.
I'm surprised they even found time to go and get some sleep.

They're the same people who still haven't got over last year's GE result.

Haha. Labour are doing well. I can see why people don’t want it talked about.

The same people watching threads closely and commenting along the way as some kind of thread watch.

Nasty in what way? If Gordon Brown had sat blubbering next to Tony Blair, would you expect people not to talk about it?

Happyher · 03/07/2025 13:55

The.markets obviously like her or they wouldn’t have wobbled at rumours that she wa on the way out. That’s a real vote of confidence for her

There is a big difference between talking about it and being spiteful.

I see no ‘ripping a human being to shreds for showing emotion’. Everyone can understand why she might. Posters are critical of her performance as. Chancellor - something that is directly impacting every one of us.

being critical of her performance as a chancellor, is the equivalent of being critical of a football manager. If you have no experience, your opinion is valueless.

But your valueless opinion on her ability to do her job, bears no relation to the fact she was crying yesterday, which is what sparked this thread.

Mumble12 · 03/07/2025 14:15

Meetmeundertheclock · 03/07/2025 13:13

So she didn't have a personal issue, was so distraught at people thinking she's doing a bad job and the press surrounding it (and the associated comments) has only got worse over the last 24 hours and now she's not bothered by it.

Either reason for her upset and recomposure makes no sense under that logic.

It is very different. My opinion definitely has a value - I get to vote for the government, as does everyone else. Over the next four years the government will become more and more aware of the value of those votes.

That is an interesting situation for Labour. Backbenchers who want higher spending v the idea of an alternative chancellor spooking the markets.

You vote for an MP. You do not vote for a Chancellor nor a PM.
