I think if it's not in already tonight then it will be before 10am tomorrow.

There is nothing shameful about trying to deal with the bloated benefits system where many who can work choose not to. As a tax payer for over 40 years I've had enough.

When you talk about many who can work choose not to, maybe that’s so, but you are overlooking the fact that over 30% of those lawfully claiming benefits are working people with jobs, but receiving insufficient pay.

Looks like she’s not going to resign so cut her some slack

Why? She is chancellor!

I think the point is that her behaviour caused the markets to crash. If she wasn't fit 'to be in work' then she should have had the judgement to know that, realise the impact of her emotional state would have on the markets, and not be in the commons for personal reasons. It all shows lack of judgement, and lack of understanding the markets likely reaction to a clearly emotional Chancellor.

That so many government employees are amongst the working people who claim benefits because they fall below the level of sufficient pay is bloody ridiculous.

Those who moan about public service workers and people on benefits often don't realise they're talking about the same group.

She’s only been in the job five minutes so she clearly isn’t up to it . That isn’t a good look for the party.

Plus it was her own party who refused to back this Bill. I'm quite surprised Liz Kendall isn't being leaned on too.

SnowFrogJelly · 03/07/2025 10:19

She's embarrassingly bad at her job and she's taking us all down with her so I'd like her to go. The crying is not the reason.

Agreed! Instead of chasing the people, reducing their monies, they need to fix their sights on those money gorging blood suckers running our country's utilities, the water companies, the energy companies who made billions from what should have gone into infrastructure, or back into the country to help reduce bills, but nope, they gorge themselves!! And don't get me started on Amazon and the like!! Labour needs to focus on those areas where it's not good business, it's extortion at our country's / people's expense

@Wheresthebeachit was Starmer refusing to back her that caused the markets to crash.

Yes its about time Labour realised how serious International markets are and how sensitive they are to government comments.
The £ has regained some of the loss but still down.

Love all the Tories enablers ignoring the fact that the country is in a state because of them. Brexit, austerity, you name it.

I'm really enjoying the Labour supporters slowly realising they are making an even worse botch of it. Lightbulb moments all round.

So we shouldn’t hold her accountable for her management of the economy, our taxes, benefits, etc because she is upset? If that is the case she needs to resign.

SnowFrogJelly · 03/07/2025 10:19

What would you say in public if you were upset because you felt overwhelmed by the job? Especially if you knew the truth would spook the markets even more?

Mumble12 · 03/07/2025 10:40

I am in full despair at the world I live in honestly. People revelling in another persons misery is grim. Anyone that does this should be ashamed of themselves.

I heard caller after caller this morning calling in to the radio to let the world know they were glad she was having a horrible time. I have never known such a bitter and twisted society than the one we live in today. If she jumped off the nearest bridge tomorrow, you'd no doubt have these cretins throwing a street party.

I imagine every one of the 276,000 people who have lost their jobs as a direct result of her actions were upset as well. Let's place yesterday into a broader context so we can see why the public may be lacking in empathy.

This is absolute nonsense thinking. It wasn't suddenly brought to her attention mid-PMQs yesterday that the country wasn't happy with her performance. Why would it not be plausible that she was having personal issues. Why did she not cry every other PMQs she has attended over the last year?

Did you not notice the Labour rebellion over the welfare bill that she was banking on to give her cuts?

Because of the mess wrt Labour in the previous 24 hours. The hollowing out of the welfare bill. The politicians in Labour at loggerheads over that.

It was clear she’d been upset for a while. Plus the markets reacting to Starmer’s answer not by crying but by falling / jumping.

Dwimmer · 03/07/2025 10:44

Yes, I did notice. This wasn't the first 'upset' within the party though was it. She was absolutely pasted for the WFA. If she's so fragile, that alone would've been enough to tip her over the edge.

I simply don't believe you have more insight into why she was upset, than she does.

Regardless, if I was being spoken about by strangers in the way she is, I'd probably shed a few tears, so even if you are right, so what. Being led by human beings with emotions is preferable (to me) than being led by people like Johnson & Hancock who showed no emotion in the face of their enormous letting down of the country.

She’s run out of economic headroom. The party is clearly a mess. That was coming out from various Labour people even, saying what a cluster fuck it was. She’s in the firing line as chancellor having to do a budget.

I'm not asking for your summary on her shortcomings as a chancellor. They may all be true, they may not.

However, as I've said, the vitriol she has received from the public has been disgusting. Revelling in people's misery, whatever the cause, is grim behaviour.

I hope she is more strong minded than people give her credit for, so that we aren't reading about her suicide in tomorrows morning papers, instead of her tears.

GoSteadyReady · 03/07/2025 06:07

Why is Rachel's tears a Kemi Badenoch problem? You're angry at Kemi for Rachel's tears? Why? Why is Rachel's tears a burden for Kemi to bear? Why have you singled out Kemi? Is this the classic white woman tears and a brown or black person must suffer for it? Of all the people in the Commons, it is Kemi that is the worse and should be held accountable for Rachel's feelings?

There's a difference between saying "Kemi is responsible for someone crying" and "Kemi saw someone in distress and her instinctive reaction was to try and make them feel worse."

No wonder some people support Badenoch's apparent enjoyment of the situation. They're seemingly cut from the same cloth as she is.
