Why are there so many men on this site?

There seems to be an increasing number of men on this website. These men appear to present themselves as straight cisgender men. This isn’t a trans issue. I don’t understand why a website that was created specifically for mums have a large number of men on it.

I understand why childfree women join as there are a lot of threads that are not about parenting. Childfree women will also use the site to get advice on TTC or miscarriage which are women exclusive, in the sense that women are the ones that give birth and also have to go through miscarriage. Men of course will experience child birth and grief but it’s the women, whose bodies have to experience this. Women have a shared experience of being a woman for example starting your period, growing breasts, TTC, miscarriage and menopause. Something that men’s body will never experience. Of course men are entitled to use this site but why should women have to put up with the men that are making sexist goady comments, which they are a lot of.

Should say this post is influenced by a man who told me to fuck off on this site after I called him out on his sexist behaviour.

MN is a private company, it generates money through advertising, sponsored content and premium subscriptions. As of 2023 it reported a profit before tax of £2,640,923 for the year ending 31 December 2023. If you can’t understand why a multi million pound company with its own PR team wouldn't want to appear inclusive, hence more profit then I can’t help you.

Some men are single parents so come looking for advice, fair enough, but why not invent a dadsnet? Other men on here are generally just creeps and have no respect for women's places.

I don’t understand why they are after a woman’s opinion? How many single mothers are going and looking for advice about their sons on a majority mens website?

What about the never ending posts from women moaning about their husbands/partners? The stag weekends/weeks/won’t get married/ watches too much sport/doesn't shower often enough…..on and on and on

Because they are venting and from your examples, these things they are moaning about doesn’t involve sex. An act that includes two people. The things you have mentioned that they are moaning about don’t involve consent in partaking in an act.

What company would want to appear that they were discriminating against a person’s sex? MN is a private company so of course they don’t want to lose a profit.

They shouldn't allow them to be so damn misogynist on here if they're actively profiting from women, because some men, not all, but some male posters on here are rampant with that lately and seem to go unchecked.

Agree with you. However, I think it’s down to people reporting and also MN turning a blind eye. Plenty of women on here post misogynist threads. One is currently about Lauren Sánchez, Jeff Benzo’s wife and how women ruin their face with plastic surgery. Some of the comments are disgusting. Some of those comments come from women who have posted on here in support of men. Of course women have the right to oppose plastic surgery, but the Op then started saying how she was a bimbo, uneducated and that her husband would leave her.

Some men (and not the nice ones) say exactly the same about women who want to get into professions which happen to be dominated by males but which are fully open to everybody with the desire, aptitiude and qualifications.

Can I presume that you support them in their assertions?

Yes, wanting equal access to employment is just like wanting access to womens' conversations and private discussion.

What a curiously male thing to post- it's very familiar to me from Reddit as the male Redditors aggressively tell women "I thought you feminists wanted equality" if they dare to stand up for womens rights, or indeed post something the men disagree with.

The access to a public website or employment is obviously not the main issue; it's any sexist assumption that, because the majority of those using or accessing a common facility happen to be of your sex, that means that it is solely yours - and you are then free to start mouthing off about those of the other sex and aggressively trying to force them out.

With any private discussions, obviously when you PM somebody, nobody else will be able to read it. Please don't tell me that you post anything private on a public forum?!

Your ignorance is showing. Huge difference between sexist comments made by incels on an internet forum and employing women in male dominated fields. If you’re a woman this mentality is highly concerning. If you’re a male then no explanation is needed .

You can’t argue with stupid. But highly concerning that anyone who doesn’t have the IQ of an incel would think this was a credible comparison. Embarrassing frankly.

Did you heart my last comment by mistake or was it used aggressively?

If not, what a huge surprise; and thanks, I guess...

As I replied above, it is the sexist 'land-grabbing' that is my point, not what the access is to.

It's interesting that you mention the incels, as the way you and a few others have been talking on this thread reminds me exactly of them, only the other way around.

I've just re-read this, actually... and it seems like you're calling yourself an incel and admitting that your comments are sexist?!

You seem to share the same kind of railing aggression as the incels do, but I'm not sure if that was what you intended?

And for the avoidance of any doubt, I am not - and never have been - the one remotely seeking to demonise and paint all people of either sex as one big, bad, homogenous lump.

I completely agree with you that the women-hating incels are pathetic and potentially dangerous - I just don't see how two wrongs make a right.

This post is exactly why I wish so many men would fuck off from MN.

likening sniffing around a female space, making a pita of yourself with weird posts and an entitled attitude bares no resemblance to women trying to gain traction and equal opportunity in traditionally male jobs.

If ever there was a thread that supported the OP's argument, this is it.

Dads maybe. There isn’t many fathers forums. For people saying the sex topic, it’s heavily monitored and new users aren’t allowed to post on it.

From the shit jokes they’ve posted on another thread, definitely a man.

It isn’t heavily ‘monitored’. MNHQ only see posts there if they’re reported, so moderation is entirely dependent on other posters reporting threads - and the posters on the sex topic are clearly not desirous of drawing attention to stuff posted there, so I doubt very much that they are reporting stuff.

And you only have to have been registered for 7 days before you can post there.

For those saying there aren’t many dad or male only websites out there, a quick 1 minute goggle search was needed:
Dad forums:
Daddit
City Dads Group
Fatherly
The Dad Edge
The National Fatherhood Initiative
The Dad
Dad Life Rules
Howtobeadad
The Dad

Male specific websites/forums:
Mens Health
Breaking Muscle
Reddit Mens
The modern man

Life skills and improvement/mental websites/forums
Art of manliness
The Good Man Project
Primer
Man therapy

Perhaps these men need to fuck off onto these sites

I wonder how much traffic those sites get though? That’s one of the key drivers for success of MN, the amount of traffic/visitors.

There was an attempt some time ago to set up a women-only alternative to Mumsnet, but it attracted fewer than 500 members. Which really isn’t enough to generate sufficient traffic. And the platform that was used meant that the founder had to pay to set it up - after a year or so, they needed people to start paying, which meant that it all fizzled out.

They also have approximately 99% of Reddit including the subreddits initially set up for women ...I once visited the women's business clothes sub hoping for some ideas for office clothes when the weather is hot, only to discover that the majority of photos were of men in dresses.

Well I think there's some clever creation of threads to raise traffic at times it's not all naturally evolving.

MN pays for that. I agree. Multimillion pound business, whose revenue is mainly generated through sponsorship. Founders were both privately educated, one went to Oxford so I’m assuming they are both smart enough to know how to market a product.

Ah really, I’m guessing money was the main issue it wasn’t as successful.

Nowhere near as much as Mumsnet

MN is great.
I'm interested in the gender debate and it's one of the best places to follow updates on that (it used to be about the only place)
I did try Reddit but was banned within a couple of days.
