What is something that is popular but is also something that you detest. It can be anything.

Picky bits - can’t fucking stand that phrase
Blake Lively - no, do not and have never got the hype. Rich nepo baby D list actress.
Love Island - trash
Dog/cats being pushed around in prams- if it has working legs, it can walk
Protein products - UPF advertised to the masses as “health” food to make a huge profit. Just eat whole foods that are high in protein.

You?

Charli XCX’s set at Glastonbury on Saturday night. Also, Rod Stewart.

Ditto Rod Stewart. Absolute misogynist crap. Songs about aex with teenagers. How was he allowed to get away with it?

Conflate - used by various posters on MN but no-one IRL actually uses this word.

I do

CoubousAndTourmalet · 01/07/2025 07:43

Barbecues.

PopeJoan2 · 01/07/2025 07:48

People complaining about there being too many mixed couples on tv

Women who are so “beautified” they look like drag queens

fake nails

hair extensions

hyperfeminine look

celebrities

The Gallagher Brothers and their offspring, wives, girlfriends, exes and “mam”.

Deliveroo

Sainsbury’s - their food is godawful and boring. Limited choices.

Which is exactly what this thread is about.

'what is something......that you detest'

Did you see what the poster had said to the initial person they’d replied to. Someone had stated that they love their tattoos and they have one to commemorate their child who had died. The poster I had replied to then said that even though it’s sad their child had died it’s still not justifiable to have a tattoo.

Absolutely fine to not like tattoos, or anything. I don’t have a tattoo. 100% not fine to tell someone they shouldn’t have one themselves because you don’t like it, also not fine to tell someone how to grieve (they told them there are better ways to do it).

MrsGuyOfGisbo · 01/07/2025 07:57

So many of these!
Mostly:
Those ghastly eyebrows like thick slugs
Fillers
Dogs sleeping on (or in🤮) people’s beds
BBC -should be subscription opt-in only - hasn’t been ‘public service) for many years
Angela Rayner
Aperol spritz
Music festivals
Christmas season -seems to start in November

LIP FILLER

It NEVER looks good. You CAN always tell they are not real lips. Looks even worse on older women. What on earth are you doing?

CharlesPetrescu · 01/07/2025 08:11

Starting sentences with the word 'so' when speaking.

I already made a list but am going to double down on one in particular and add another.

The grabby Gallagher brothers. Their entitled ne’er do well nepo kids, nepo wives and exes, and their saintly “mam”. I especially dislike Noel who looks like a marrionation puppet from Stingray.

The grabby, establishment arse-licking, social climbing Beckhams and their ne’er do well kids*. Especially David. Mediocre on every level.

*apart from Brooklyn. Although his efforts to “find himself” have been met with derision, at least he is trying to find gainful employment.

The word super. Everything is super cool, super tasty, super well, super excited these days.

’Super skinny fit trousers needed for super slim super sporty super willowy super busy teen in super selective super school’.

(The answer’s always M&S.)

Agreed, it looks utter crap.

Racism.

Yes and it seems to be fashionable at the moment, particularly amongst 'old' people, of which I am one. They form posses, all agreeing with each other. I despair.

And those two brothers who used to on Emmerdale or Corrie or whatever... surname Thomas?

I disagree with the dogs in prams! Have you ever actually asked. Babies have legs but they aren't expected to walk. My terrier has a metal plate in her leg and can only walk for short stints. She loves going out and I don't see why that should stop so I put her on a doggy pram and we alternate walking and riding. She is living her best life whilst she can...so don't make judgements on things you don't understand.

And clearly a lot have nothing wrong with them. You moaning about it will not change my opinion. Lazy owners.

Holding a fork like a spoon
Tattoos
Cheap perfume/ plug in air fresheners
Chelsea flower show
Synthetic grass
‘chugging’ alcohol
People spouting opinions on things they know very little about.

AngelinaFibres · 01/07/2025 08:33

Dogs in cafes/ John Lewis/ Dunelm type shops. Just fuck off.
Hen / stag anything. Noisy/ trashy/ attention seeing drivel.
Big eyebrows. Huge eyelashes.
Thong bikinis/ scrunchy bum leggings. The majority of people who choose to wear them don't have the bum for them.
Ketchup
Bbqs. You have a fitted kitchen. Cook the food properly in there ( away from flies and dogs) and then bring it outside

TheAutumnCrow · 01/07/2025 08:35

Crap celebrity wannabes who attempt to cultivate 'just trying to work hard and earn a living' personae through the power of expensive PR and marrying the famous offspring of billionaires who just happen to have trust funds of millions themselves.

PicturePuzzle · 01/07/2025 08:36

Animal cruelty - you're evil
Amanda Holden - put it away love
Balloons - squeaky air bombs
It being a man's world no matter what we say
Nicola Peltz - spoilt madam
Bezos spending 20m + on a wedding, grotesque
Dark window wiper eyelashes - can you not see what you look like
