What is something that is popular but is also something that you detest. It can be anything.

Picky bits - can’t fucking stand that phrase
Blake Lively - no, do not and have never got the hype. Rich nepo baby D list actress.
Love Island - trash
Dog/cats being pushed around in prams- if it has working legs, it can walk
Protein products - UPF advertised to the masses as “health” food to make a huge profit. Just eat whole foods that are high in protein.

You?

  1. People (predominantly women 25-65) who take tiny and small dogs to the cinema in tote-bags.
  2. A subset of the above animal "traffickers" who either constantly talk to the animal through the movie OR feed the animal human foods or snacks OR both.

I like dogs. I understand why dogs are popular. I respect the needs and the safety of dogs.

I don't let dogs lick my face EVER. Dogs lick their own arses, never my face.

WooleyMunky · 01/07/2025 04:18

Men in shorts.
Women with arse cheeks on display.
Men as children, no you are not out with the boys at thirty years old, grow up.
Lip fillers, especially on younger women.
Unsupervised animals.
Unsupervised children or children allowed to run amok.
Mixed couples being way over-represented in the media.
Pride festivals and the virtue signalling that goes along with them.
Lemon mayo.
Anything artisan/craft/custom.
Reality TV.

My tattoos are very respectful and I know that both my son and dad would love them as they are so personal to them. I personally cannot think of a more respectful way to honour them both. Obviously not everyone will agree and that's perfectly fine, but to me they are beautiful and help me a lot with the grieving process, especially as I am very ill myself and don't know how long I have left, so for however long or short that may be, they give me comfort and peace

Thank you for your heartfelt response, and I truly hope you did not think I was in any way attacking you or the attachment you have to your tattoos as I also believe they come from a place of love and loss. I think it's important that we all respect one another and acknowledge that different experiences shape different choices.

That said, I’m speaking about tattoos more generally and their broader impact on society. While personal meaning matters, I’m concerned about the cultural change they represent and what we normalise as a society.

Wishing you peace and strength.

People who take out their phones and start filming at the site of accidents/incidents. This is often the worst, most excruciating time of someone's life - not an opportunity to film it for your entertainment or sm likes.

Rosscameasdoody · 01/07/2025 04:44

Fillers that make your lips look like pumped up tyres. I understand that youthful naturally plump lips look great, but the exaggerated plumpness from fillers isn’t that.

Berlinlover · 01/07/2025 04:44

Alcohol.

Completely agree but on the other hand I'm slightly conflicted as they do come in handy as evidence for police etc.

I’m sorry for your loss and I don’t doubt the love and pain behind your decision. But even the most heartfelt reasons don’t justify tattoos or make them any more attractive. There are other, more respectful ways to honour those we’ve lost.

Wow. I’ve seen some crass and insensitive posts on MN, but telling a grieving parent they’re wrong and disrespectful for the way in which they choose to honour their loved one is a new low. You don’t like tattoos. That’s fine. But you are not the gatekeeper of others.

I'm mainly talking about the ones who film whilst someone is being worked on by paramedics, etc. If I came across anyone doing that, I think they'd be needing a new phone screen!

Iwiicit · 01/07/2025 05:23

Loads of karate chopped cushions on your bed.
Skin coloured leggings and tops that make you look naked.
'Gardens' with artificial grass, a hot tub and a bar.
Unfettered access to all the toxic poison on the internet for our children and feeling powerless against such a tsunami of evil.
99.99% of politicians.
Tattoos - small ones I don't mind, especially for sentimental reasons but the whole sleeve type with loads of ink make me feel physically sick
Modern life in general.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I don’t have any tattoos personally but can see why people love them and use them to express themselves. 100% fine if you don’t like them- it’s wonderful you don’t need to get any. Not sure why you think someone else would need to justify why they have a tattoo as if you’re some gatekeeper to taste.

Just because you don’t like the look of something doesn’t mean they’re bad, it purely means you don’t like them.

Which is exactly what this thread is about.

'what is something......that you detest'
