What is something that is popular but is also something that you detest. It can be anything.

Picky bits - can’t fucking stand that phrase
Blake Lively - no, do not and have never got the hype. Rich nepo baby D list actress.
Love Island - trash
Dog/cats being pushed around in prams- if it has working legs, it can walk
Protein products - UPF advertised to the masses as “health” food to make a huge profit. Just eat whole foods that are high in protein.

You?

Long nails of any kind- seems really unhygienic.

Those little nose rings loads of people have these days on the septum that are similar to what I imagine a bull might have. Also makes me think of the germs on that!

And I’m another one that doesn’t like tattoos, sorry.

I agree, nose jewellery always seems a sad and snotty mistake.

And I'm also in the "no tattoos thanks" book.

-Barrel leg jeans
-The relentlessness of social media
-The monetisation of basic and otherwise free experiences, eg 'Forest bathing'

I honestly love my tattoos and wouldn't change them as they are for the death of my son and dad

I’m sorry for your loss and I don’t doubt the love and pain behind your decision. But even the most heartfelt reasons don’t justify tattoos or make them any more attractive. There are other, more respectful ways to honour those we’ve lost.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I don’t have any tattoos personally but can see why people love them and use them to express themselves. 100% fine if you don’t like them- it’s wonderful you don’t need to get any. Not sure why you think someone else would need to justify why they have a tattoo as if you’re some gatekeeper to taste.

Just because you don’t like the look of something doesn’t mean they’re bad, it purely means you don’t like them.

There is nothing wrong with standards in all that we do and our modern obsession with placating everyone and lowering expectations for fear of reprisal is exactly why we see the proliferation of all that is undesirable. With no standards and discipline comes a lack of excellence. That's why you'll find countries who do emphasise standards will continue to excel and go far beyond the West.

Tattoos are ugly and we shouldn't be afraid to say so.

100% fine for you to say tattoos are ugly. Of course everyone is entitled to an opinion. Really not ok for you to tell a grieving parent they’re doing it wrong because YOU think it’s ugly and wrong. They clearly don’t agree and your opinion does not trump there’s however superior you feel.

If you don’t like tattoos don’t get them and let others do what they want. I know many highly successful people who have tattoos and they don’t make any difference to their outcomes.

I disagree entirely. I refuse to allow sentimentality to stifle or silence a debate. It's why we are now here as a society.

But your debate is basically saying ‘I don’t like something so that means everyone else should dislike. I have decided that I’m the authority to make these decisions because everyone should live by my standards and those who like different things to me are wrong’. That’s not a debate.

I dislike tattoos but I wouldn't declare that "tattoos are ugly" as some kind of objective rule that other people have to follow.

As for "standards" in an aesthetic context, they're really only meaningful in relation to conventional expectations. The best art is unique, not "standardised", which is why we value originality, innovation and freedom of thought - especially in the West.

The person you are quoting was on another thread about tattoos, she really does hate them and quite a few comments were deleted due to personal attacks.

Not all choices are equal just because people feel strongly about them. You’re promoting equivalency and that's not what successful societies are based on. If you're in the UK, just take a look around you. The degradation is real.

There were no personal attacks. "I" was attacked.

Show me one comment where I "attacked" anyone. I didn't and that's not how I work. Stating that you dislike something is not an attack.

No one else on this thread has started any trouble apart from you. I know you were on another thread about tattoos, where quite a few comments of yours were deleted due to personal attacks. I suggest no one interact with this user as they are clearly trying to derail the thread yet again.

My tattoos are very respectful and I know that both my son and dad would love them as they are so personal to them. I personally cannot think of a more respectful way to honour them both. Obviously not everyone will agree and that's perfectly fine, but to me they are beautiful and help me a lot with the grieving process, especially as I am very ill myself and don't know how long I have left, so for however long or short that may be, they give me comfort and peace
