What is something that is popular but is also something that you detest. It can be anything.

Picky bits - can’t fucking stand that phrase
Blake Lively - no, do not and have never got the hype. Rich nepo baby D list actress.
Love Island - trash
Dog/cats being pushed around in prams- if it has working legs, it can walk
Protein products - UPF advertised to the masses as “health” food to make a huge profit. Just eat whole foods that are high in protein.

You?

@ Springflowersyay -
“Those sticks in pots of oil that people have in every room in the house.”

I couldn’t agree more. I once upset my sister when staying at her house, when she found I had put the offending pot out of the bedroom and onto the landing because I just couldn’t stand it - it was suffocating. She’d also sprayed the pillow cases with some laundry spritz stuff - the effect was just overwhelming. We once stayed in an air bnb where they had them in every room including the kitchen and even on the stairs - we collected them all up and put them in the shed while we were staying there.

That's a Subway in the hospital where my son has regular treatment. It smells disgusting, like overly-sweet bread. I've never eaten a Subway, but the smell makes me feel sick and is enough to put me off for life.

Yes, sweet sickly dough and overpowering dried oregano blasted through the air at a million degrees centigrade, to the sound of rattling cheap cutlery in a miasma of culinary disappointment and underachievement.

I’m sorry for your loss and I don’t doubt the love and pain behind your decision. But even the most heartfelt reasons don’t justify tattoos or make them any more attractive. There are other, more respectful ways to honour those we’ve lost.

“More respectful” 🙄

My child had major surgery when they were a baby leaving them with a large visible scar. Whilst they were in intensive care I vowed to get a tattoo in honour of their bravery, strength and resilience and my thinking was that my tattoo would be my version of a scar telling the story of what me and my young family went through. I’m so bloody proud of my tattoo and can’t wait to show them and explain it to them when they’re older. I know they will love it. My eldest already does because they think part of it looks like a crocodile 🙂

I disagree with the dogs in prams! Have you ever actually asked. Babies have legs but they aren't expected to walk. My terrier has a metal plate in her leg and can only walk for short stints. She loves going out and I don't see why that should stop so I put her on a doggy pram and we alternate walking and riding. She is living her best life whilst she can...so don't make judgements on things you don't understand.

‘Called out’, ie the ubiquitous phrase that has replaced nice normal English words like ‘challenged’, ‘disagreed with’ and ‘disputed’.

Or, in many cases: ‘passive-aggressively huffed and puffed for a bit and was fairly petulant and rude in an inappropriate setting owing to levels of immaturity that I probably need to work on.’

LillyPJ · 01/07/2025 06:25

Lip fillers

Maireas · 01/07/2025 06:29

Nail Art is a strange one, but tastes differ....
I'm also going to add dogs everywhere because it's such a thing nowadays and I'm not sure why.
I don't like tattoos personally, but it doesn't bother me if I see them on other people.

Some of these are just things people don’t like not things that are super popular ie ‘spitting on the street’

Yep, I saw biting insects earlier in the thread. Since when are they popular 😅

LillyPJ · 01/07/2025 06:33

The phrase 'I'm sorry for your loss' - trotted out without any genuine emotion behind it. See also 'our thoughts and prayers are with...'

MiddleAgedDread · 01/07/2025 06:34

Starbucks coffee
Scrunchbum shorts / leggings

I know right, ‘look at my fabulous new dress made of biting insects, it’s so on trend’ 😂

LillyPJ · 01/07/2025 06:36

Piercings of any sort. Even pierced ears make me feel queasy.

Bowies · 01/07/2025 06:41

Long hair or long nails
Thong swimwear
White trainers

School uniform on DC below secondary school

’Picky bits’ agree very unappetising!
‘Making memories’ makes me feel even more nauseous

At least I don’t know anyone who uses these phrases IRL

101jobs · 01/07/2025 06:41

Salmon
Crocs
Tattoos
Nose piercings

PermanentTemporary · 01/07/2025 06:41

Soaps, although I suppose they’re a lot less popular than they were. They’re utterly shit and no I don’t think that it’s great that Coronation Street and the Archers are twice my age.

Graves. It’s really odd to me that lots of people are refusing to have funerals, which imo are really important, but still having graves which are awful. My dh’s grave was never going to be a happy place but it has been a source of unexpected levels of misery and family conflict.

Toddlerteaplease · 01/07/2025 06:42
