What is something that is popular but is also something that you detest. It can be anything.

Picky bits - can’t fucking stand that phrase
Blake Lively - no, do not and have never got the hype. Rich nepo baby D list actress.
Love Island - trash
Dog/cats being pushed around in prams- if it has working legs, it can walk
Protein products - UPF advertised to the masses as “health” food to make a huge profit. Just eat whole foods that are high in protein.

You?

The ‘word’ gotten.

Have you gotten over it yet? 😉

So far, I've agreed with pretty much everything everyone else has cited. Not sure if it's already been said, but there appears to be a popular trend for some young women to make themselves seem really dumb - like in a 'cutesy' sort of way. I've noticed it with several friends' daughters (and their friends) - whose parents are definitely NOT dumb so it's not a parenting thing.

Coming across as ditsy, being unable to use simple tools (unless it's make-up brushes and eyelash curlers), freaking out about opening a can of soda in case they break a false nail, talking CONSTANTLY about facial aesthetics and not much else, apparently not having the faintest idea about what's going on in a wider social or political context, finding it funny that you thought Portugal wasn't a European country.

It's not cute. You come across as a fucking idiot.

Hyphenated names. Hate it when some parents take a perfectly pretty name and add -Mae to it. Vile.
I do actually think the name May is pretty used as a standalone name but not when the spelling is altered and it's used with a hyphen. It really cheapens it I think!

DesdamonasHandkerchief · 01/07/2025 09:22

Plastic grass
Drag Queen length fake eyelashes and many of the above!

Iceandfire92 · 01/07/2025 09:23

Oh my goodness and I have noticed a lot of people are now replacing sighing with "Ay yi yi"....I notice it a lot in the gym, it is so forced, nobody naturally does this. Never noticed it a few years ago.

boujeewooje · 01/07/2025 09:23

The word ‘gosh’ 🤢 Well I don’t actually hear anyone say it in RL but it’s always used on mumsnet.

Galaxyandcadburys773 · 01/07/2025 09:23

Vocal fry. So annoying!

In no order:

Incels/manosphere/Tate foot soldiers, etc.
Greggs
Social media
The weird holding of phone mouthpiece to your ear - just use the phone as it was intended
Facetiming in public places (including the waiting room of the cancer centre I attended with my brother who is undergoing treatment)
Videos/music without headphones in public places (as above)
Extended families in hospital waiting rooms
Noisy children (often included in above)
Dogs everywhere, particularly where food is served (probably a matter of time before they're part of the extended families in hospital waiting rooms!)
Nude coloured clothes
Grown men dressed as scruffy toddlers, particularly when accompanied by an overstyled girlfriend/partner - clashing visually
"Roadman" style, worse still on older men (usually local paper mugshots)
Should of, etc.
"Sun's out!" (and ASBO behaviour is out)
The ubiquitous crap autotuned radio stations in taxis
General bad behaviour everywhere

Menobaby79 · 01/07/2025 09:26

"Reaching out" It should be legal to kill someone who uses that phrase, especially in an email / work context. Oh and yes Sabrina filler face Carpenter and Jeremy old irrelevant concieted twat Clarkson.

ruethewhirl · 01/07/2025 09:28

Binge viewing. I get bored shitless of most things after a couple of episodes, even my favourite programmes. Much prefer watching one episode at a time - or, very occasionally, perhaps two if the first ends on an irresistible cliff-hanger.

'Txt spk' when used by adults. It really doesn't take that much longer to spell the words out in full, especially with autocomplete/predictive text enabled. When adults use text speak they come across as illiterate teens imo. (Different if someone's dyslexic, obviously.)

Excessive emphasis on food at social functions. Obviously it's nice if there's some, but I hate the way the stampede for the buffet tends to kill interesting conversations.

In a similar vein, barbecues. Never enough seating, you're left standing juggling plate in one hand, drink in the other, how are you meant to eat? Plus the food is usually either cremated or undercooked.

And that's just reminded me of another one: spellings like BBQ and 'donuts'. cringe

He's been in the news lately with his vineyard in NZ, I think. Someone was bigging him up.
