Happy Flying Ant Day

Magenta82 · 29/06/2025 13:52

It's hot and muggy and DD3 wants to go in her paddling pool but the garden is swarming and I've locked us inside like it's 28 days later.

We are out of and powder and are down to less than half a bottle of spray.

Thoughts and prayers

Flying ant day here too! Think they are calming down...they need to as I have a date with the sun lounger all afternoon!

EggbertHeartsTina · 29/06/2025 13:53

Ooh where are you @Magenta82 ? I find they are a few days apart across the country and not spotted any yet (SE London)

Magenta82 · 29/06/2025 13:56

About 20 miles North of London.

I'm fine with most bugs, I'm the designated spinder remover, didn't bat an eyelid at the giant moth in the bath last night etc. But flying ants freak me the fuck out!

None where I am in the NW yet thankfully, hopefully they come Monday-Wednesday whilst I’m working in the office with no chance to sit in the garden!

I hope the go for you soon.

Where abouts are you it epuld be interesting to see how different parts get hit at different times.

I'm on the south coast so not sure there is a pattern to where/when they appear!

itsgettingweird · 29/06/2025 14:12

They are here too on south coast.

They were swarming about 2 hours ago but are calming down now.

There’s some mutant sized ones this year 🤣

I would still go out and use paddling pool. IME splashing the water into the air cools it and they bugger off!

They are floating around still but not in the clouds they appeared in!
I am on my lounger and braving the stragglers 😂

Which part of south coast are you? I’m central (Hants)

Ooh same btw Pompey and Southampton!

Magenta82 · 29/06/2025 14:16

I think I'll give it a bit longer if I can, I've distracted DD with play doh and am hoping it will keep her interested for a bit.

Same here!!!!!

Are we neighbours?!!!

I recognised your description of swarming which is what they did here and now calming down!

FlatErica · 29/06/2025 14:17

Started here in south London yesterday!

Tacocatgoatcheesepizza · 29/06/2025 14:19

Realised our front lawn was crawling with them earlier! West Midlands here.

I'm also about 20 miles north of London, and I've seen one flying ant today 😂

That's because they are all in my garden!

I'll pack up the paddling pool and pop over for a dip 😉

We have a double whammy here! Flying ants (flying and strolling around on the ground like they own the place) and a Swarm of wasps as a neighbour a few houses away has managed to disturb a huge nest. I'm trapped in my house with everything closed and I won't be opening the windows until they are all gone....

Butthechildrentheylovethebooks · 29/06/2025 14:27

@Magenta82 Hopefully they'll clear soon and u can enjoy the afternoon.

TheSmallAssassin · 29/06/2025 14:29

Don't kill them! They're all flying to move out! It's not hot enough for them here. We get the seagulls arriving too for a flying ant feast, they get drunk on them, apparently!

None here SE London. @Butthechildrentheylovethebooks Love your nod to Elf x

LoserWinner · 29/06/2025 14:39

Definitely FA day in Acton and Ealing.

Magenta82 · 29/06/2025 14:39

I'm not killing them unless they come in. Ive drawn a circle around the outside of the house like they are ghosts and ant powder is salt. The spray is purely for defensive purposes.

I’m in the NW. ours came out about three days ago. Bastards.

dudsville · 29/06/2025 14:43

Ah, we haven't had DOTFA yet where I am, but I enjoy it. Of course, I don't have to be out asking then and can just watch from my window, but I love that this kind of thing happens!
