I saw the other thread was full. Still I look forward to the vote which is on Tuesday. Sky news called him two Tier Keir. Most unfair thing ever if this passes.

Read the room.

We - the taxpayer - are very vested in the welfare bill now.

Expect a lot of scrutiny going forward. Suggest you get used to it.

I am also a tax payer pip is not an out of work benefit. If you insist on arguing with disabled people at least get your facts right

Everyone is a tax payer. I pay tax on every purchase I make, and every bill I pay.

I am vested because it will mean real life cuts to to the payments I get.
If you pay more tax, are you going to be homeless or needing foodbanks? Thought not.

Higher-rate taxpayers (but you knew that).

Legitimate claimants have nothing to fear.

The rest, well, they should get used to the scrutiny. People like me are utterly done with being treated like mugs.

What is a "legitimate" claimant?

Not, ‘what’, but ‘who’ - they are people, after all.

@MyNameIsX I want to know how you paying tax for my disabilities is any different then me paying tax to feed your children that you chose to have. I was born disabled I didn't get a choice

FGS we have been over this.

Nobody reasonable, including me, would begrudge state support for those who are truly in need. But let’s at least try to be honest - the welfare bill is out of control. Labour’s own words. There are absolutely people who should not be claiming.

This needs to be addressed.

PIP is a benefit that disabled people can claim. If you don't have a disability, then you can't claim it. If your "junky" friend claims it, then he met the criteria. No one chooses to be an addict or suffer the very real issues that can stem from it.

I mean you choose to be an addict by taking the substance? I've never felt the need to take drugs. I rarely rarely drink and can control my intake.

I've been through absolutely horrific shit times and never felt the need to turn to substances. Though arguably I assume this kind of spending is a tiny minority of PIP.

But when these decisions are made by the pip assessors who are people like physios who will point blank argue what your neurologist, vascular surgeon, heamotologist and cardiologist are saying who have known you 30 plus years and state they are all wrong about your rare congenital condition it doesnt give you any belief that severely disabled people won't get screwed over in the process. I was turned down initially from pip then I had MR which I asked to be recorded none of the information changed yet I got awarded high rate for both purely because I questioned every single lie they told. So saying if you have a serious disability you dont need to worry its just not true. Pip is incredibly hard to get and you need a significant amount of medical evidence. Their is this myth going around that you can be a bit anxious go to your gp get antidepressants and then claim pip it just doesnt work like that. If people are scamming the system they will continue to do so as thats what scammers do. It will be the genuine cases that will lose their pip and health element of universal credit and be left with nothing.

I have to admit reading this thread I understand how painful and horrible it is to be disabled in this country. I think I've been too harsh. If I happened to get MND I've been thinking I'd have a very different opinion.

I've just checked and PIP on its own is 3% of total gov spending.

I'd rather see healthy people not shirk work but that's a story for another thread.

Thankyou for saying that and being understanding its not an easy life being disabled and having everybody hate you and questioning everything you do makes it harder so I appreciate what you wrote xx

Firstly what an amazing person for getting clean from drugs do you understand the many reasons people take drugs. And what effects drugs puts on a body even after you have stopped taking them. How well do you know this person as their is nobody in my life who know all my health conditions or all my struggles or even what I claim pip for.

I know because she plasters it all over social media! PIP should be there for people that genuinely need it and the amount given should improve their quality of life. It should not be given to people who just want to top up their benefits.

As it stands, people that are in need of it only get a tiny bit because half the country seems to be claiming for ADHD, Mental Health or Fibo

Yeah because social media is real. We all post our actual lives on there 🙄

Yeah I feel fair enough I was in the wrong. It's only 3% of government expenditure and I assume fraud/people over exaggerating is an even smaller proportion of that.

Does anyone (I'm quoting you because you mentioned it, it's not aimed at you) know what percentage is spent on tribunals?

I dont but I think this is probably the biggest issue and the biggest expense

PIP is 3% of government spending!!?!?
That can't be true?
That is an absolutely enormous amount of money. It can't possibly be that much.

Well I think total disability spend is 3-4%. Pip is 1-2%

There are no tax increases planned this year by government or the tax office this year

Well someone fact check me. I just asked chatgpt and asked it to use the internet to verify.

1% of government spend doesn't really bother me. Especially since the fraud and misuse would be a minute proportion of it.

KitTea3 · 02/07/2025 20:47

Call me a cynic (or paranoid 🤣) but isnt it interesting how the government are hell bent on cutting disability and toughening criteria.....at the exact time they are investing millions into defence and have publicly told us all to be prepared for war...

It makes sense in a way....if we were to go to war there would most likely be more disabled people and as they've clearly said we can't afford it perhaps that's why they're starting to restrict it 🤔

Obviously this is just my random musings ...

Also as someone with a current fixation on the .gov website there is a HELL of a lot of information on there the general public wouldn't know about unless they looked it up (also as another point several of the studies the gov quote to back up their rhetoric are cherry picked and don't actually paint the full real picture 😉)
