Taxes to rise to fund PIP 2

I saw the other thread was full. Still I look forward to the vote which is on Tuesday. Sky news called him two Tier Keir. Most unfair thing ever if this passes.

Can I please ask people to stop calling benefits "disabled benefits". I know of someone who works; is a junky who gets PIP ... he's not disabled.

There are too few putting in and too many taking out and it can't continue - its not sustainable.

People need to work, unless they are unable to, not because they can't be bothered to.

XenoBitch · 01/07/2025 18:03

MyNameIsX · 01/07/2025 17:23

ADHD 49%
Autism 72%

Success rates.

And for context:

Bedwetting 35% (genuinely)

Edited

As has been explained several times, when someone applies for PIP, they list ALL of their diagnoses. That does not mean they are claiming for them.

And the occasional bedwetting is no issue. If it happens all the time, then it is an issue, especially into teens and adulthood. Some autistic people will be "bed wetters", but they tend to be needing a lot of support too and will probably never live independently.

PIP is a benefit that disabled people can claim. If you don't have a disability, then you can't claim it. If your "junky" friend claims it, then he met the criteria. No one chooses to be an addict or suffer the very real issues that can stem from it.

And also there are lots of disabled people who work but don't get benefits at all. Loads. Most people with my condition struggle to claim because it is so poorly understood. But we are often house bound or bedbound.

I work full time, pay tax. Have very little quality of life outside of work.

I have nothing against paying more tax for people who genuinely can't work or need extra support with transport etc to be able to work. I do have a problem with people claiming PIP for ADHD, certain kinds of mental health etc that all either be treated or no extra money is needed to help with their condition.

What does an adult with ADHD need extra money for (whether they work or not)? It doesn't make sense to me, people who actually need it should get a decent amount but I think they need to put a stop to people claiming it when there is no need for them too.

Someone I went to school woth has never held down a job, has 3 kids on UC (3 of which all live with their dads as a court ruled the mother was incapable). I know through her social media updates she is now getting PIP for autism and ADHD as she paid privately to get diagnosed so she could claim it!

Do you realise how incapable a person must be to lose custody of their kids. This isnt a well functioning adult

Exactly this I have so many conditions that I write on my form but things like hypothyroidism isnt the reason im actually getting pip but its on my form. I have 3 main conditions why I actually get pip for as they significantly impact my life.

My asthma is listed but isn't the reason why I get pip (it's generally well controlled apart from hayfever season)

Same asthma is on mine but well controlled it wouldn't fit into any of the categories as it doesnt significantly impact my life.

cornishcoasting · 01/07/2025 19:16

Some people wait years for a diagnosis too. So something like POTS may have been misdiagnosed as anxiety or people may have been put on the wrong medication for another condition.

There are often posts on mumsnet from people desperate for help to get a diagnosis and some treatment and being fobbed off.

As for resilience, I think kids are continually asked to be more resilient to counteract the lack of resilience in services. Also, a proportion of children will have cognitive or behavioural issues as a direct result of a covid infection.

If you're an additional rate taxpayer in this country, never forget that you are more contemptible than dirt on the sole of a shoe to these short-sighted cretins and their unambitious, feckless, indolent voter base.

Tax rises coming in the autumn. Thanks folks. Starmer has not only been humiliated, but, in October, Reeves will now be forced to break the manifesto pledge of not increasing income tax.

I’ve just decided to shunt as much as I can into my pension, take more unpaid leave, and hopefully retire by 50! Fed up with being taken as a mug as an additional rate taxpayer

Viviennemary · 29/06/2025 07:22

I've just read an article in the DM saying Kier Starmer will last only another year and then Angela Rayner will take over. She will get the party members and the Union vote. Now that is a scarey prospect. If that's the alternative I'd rather stick with Starmer. It's a mess.

Can’t imagine Rayner as PM- she hasn’t got the gravitas.

Absolutely!

Do all you can to mitigate your exposure to this Labour shower…

BUT.

The sooner that Rayner becomes PM, the better, because the sooner we will crystallise this utter horlicks of a government and bring matters to a head.

This is currently death by a thousand cuts.

I think she mainly lost them due to taking drugs

No no no. I pay enough tax and I’m sick of paying for benefits for so many people. Out of my hand into someone else’s. If YOU want to pay more tax for state benefits, because you’re feeling generous, make a payment direct to HMRC. Easy enough to access on the internet. And you can feel good about yourself.

This!

An adult that chose to not work, take drugs then got clean and is now been fully supported by the state adding to value whats so ever to anyone. This person not be entitled to PIP.

There are plenty of 'low functioning adults' who make positive contributions to society.

Do they get PIP? If they do, they are entitled to it. Your opinion does not matter.

That's the whole point, they shouldn't be entitled to it. Everyone's opinion should matter and this government are going to find themselves not getting into power again for years.

No, stranger's opinions dos not matter.
If someone gets PIP, it is between them and the DWP.

Firstly what an amazing person for getting clean from drugs do you understand the many reasons people take drugs. And what effects drugs puts on a body even after you have stopped taking them. How well do you know this person as their is nobody in my life who know all my health conditions or all my struggles or even what I claim pip for.

Read the room.

We - the taxpayer - are very vested in the welfare bill now.

Expect a lot of scrutiny going forward. Suggest you get used to it.
