For me, its spinach. I eat it raw with every meal. I can easily get through 1kg a week by myself 😮

For DP, its tinned fish. He has it every day for lunch. He treats himself to fancy ones which is currently costing us about £150 a month 😮

What about you?

Isn’t tinned fish bad for you because of the mercury?

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 25/06/2025 14:53

Depends on the type of fish, its in the fish not the tin. The higher up the predation chain the fish is the higher the mercury so tuna, swordfish and the like are high.
Not as sure about mackerel and sardines think theyre lower.

Baby(salad) cucumbers. I eat like 4/5 packs a week

Google says (and other websites) ….

‘Yes, spinach is a food that is high in oxalates, according to WebMD and Medical News Today.Oxalates are organic compounds that can bind to minerals like calcium and magnesium, potentially hindering their absorption and contributing to kidney stone formation in some individuals.

While spinach is a nutritious food with many benefits, it's important to be aware of its oxalate content, especially for individuals with a history of kidney stones or oxalate-related health concerns. A half-cup of cooked spinach contains about 755 milligrams of oxalate.’

I've been eating at least one pomegranate every day since last September or so.
I panic that they might go out of season etc but so far so good.
I adore them & I'm off sugar so they are my sweet treat.

Price ranges from £1 - £1.50 per fruit.

So we are to believe that nearly everyone on this thread pigs out on fizzy water, fruit, vegetables or fish?

I just take an extra gulp of fresh air if I want a treat 😂.

boopthatdog · 25/06/2025 14:57

Lucozade.

Lourdes12 · 25/06/2025 14:57

Cocoa, cucumber, lettuce, tomatoes, olive oil

RobinEllacotStrike · 25/06/2025 14:58

@Redheadedstepchild pomegranates are truly disgusting - you should avoid them at all costs 😁🤣

These are (almost) all so healthy! I thought there'd be a lot more sugar monsters.

I used to crave sugar, especially chocolate, like nobody's business, to the point it was really affecting my daily life, and finances, and arse size.

Am on week 4 of zero sugar and low carb, and I feel let out of prison! (slight exaggeration)

I'd recommend it to anyone with the same problem, just a headache for 1.5 days then absoultely no cravings at all for anything, and my hunger grows more slowly. I feel like "ah this is how everyone else feels!"

Alltheburpees · 25/06/2025 15:03

For those tinned fish addicts here is a tinned fish shop in Porto.
Strictly for the tourists I should think.

Eggs, toast and crispy chilli oil. Sometimes I have this as a meal twice a day! I eat it every day.

Ive seen a youtube doc about that place! It was so charming:)

BastardesEverywhere · 25/06/2025 15:08

Cucumber. I eat it pretty much every lunchtime on the side of something, quite a decent portion. I also love it as a snack, especially with a little sprinkle of salt or dipped in salad cream.

All 3 dc eat quite a bit too and will just go to the fridge and cut themselves a big chunk as a snack. I think we must buy 10/15 most weeks. It's in the weekly shop but is a constant top up when we stop at the shop too 'oh yes, grab milk and a cucumber' usually 😂😂

I'll have to count next week to see how many we actually get through.

Drangea · 25/06/2025 15:09

The thread title said inordinate amount. Eating a lot of crisps, chocolate and wine is very ordinate.

UnderwoodsFinest · 25/06/2025 15:11

Tender stem broccoli,
yogurt,
M&S pineapple, coconut and lime ice lollies,
trü frü chocolate strawberries,
and at the moment cherries and strawberries barely make it into the fridge!

glittereyelash · 25/06/2025 15:11

Sauerkraut, cucumbers, olives, Greek yogert and various cheeses. I especially love haloumi, camembert and feta.

I will try to inhibit my, "Reverse Midas Touch"*
on your dearly beloved fruit by never indulging.

Reverse Midas Touch: def: King Midas was known for everything that he touched turning to gold. The Redheadedstepchild touch is everything she touches turning to...*.

Wrinklewoes5 · 25/06/2025 15:15

Radish! I eat a packet a day, I can't describe the feeling of that first radish of the day, it's almost like satisfying an addiction.

Google tells me craving radish may be due to a deficiency in certain minerals so maybe that's what it is, I am OBSESSED.

GreenMarigold · 25/06/2025 15:16

I’d happily eat bread for every meal if I could get away with it. A fresh, crusty tiger loaf or toasted sourdough are my ultimate favourites but also really love those part-baked baguettes and cheap white bread!

Sadly my body has other ideas and I can’t eat that much bread. The only other quick and easy lunch option I really like is egg salad so I eat rather a lot of that, with chopped chorizo on top.

Bimblebombles · 25/06/2025 15:16

Eggs - I have 3 every day at least.
Fancy chocolate spread (the shit that costs upwards of £8 a jar)

Gymnopedie · 25/06/2025 15:17

Manilife crunchy peanut butter. I buy it in 1kg tubs, several at a time.
