I blame the film An Werewolf in London for the decline in local pubs.

The Slaughtered Lamb 😁

Lunchtime drinking was SUCH a thing when I was younger. Especially on a Friday. The whole office would be in the pub. Then we got taken over by an American company in the early 90s and it became a sackable offence overnight.

Poets day.

BestIsWest · 29/06/2025 19:37

That’s a phrase I haven’t heard in a while!

Pretty shockingly (these days) I used to go out Friday lunchtime and have a couple of large glasses of wine as a teacher. Totally normal behaviour at the time (up to roughly 2000 I reckon).

It’s never been ok to lunchtime drink in my job - education.

But by Friday lunchtime it’s about all anyone talks about doing when the school day ends 😂

Piggywaspushed · 29/06/2025 20:39

We used to go the pub Friday lunch in schools. Right up until about 1999. Lunch is now about 25 minutes. Killjoys.

Yes I saw that - I didn’t start in the sector until 2007.
i missed that period of time - although I haven’t drank alcohol for over 10 years now either!

DuncinToffee · 29/06/2025 21:22

Different times @itsgettingweird , different times…
I don’t think it did anyone any harm though.

In 6th form it was fairly routine for us to go to the same pub as the teachers on Friday lunchtime.😁

Almost.

BIWI · 29/06/2025 23:15

Well I used to work in advertising, and all day lunchtime drinking, any day of the week, was pretty much de rigeur!

Notonthestairs · 30/06/2025 08:08

So much wrong with this. 😬

BIossomtoes · 30/06/2025 08:11

Just when I thought my opinion of the Catholic church had hit rock bottom. That’s dreadful.

DuncinToffee · 30/06/2025 08:44

The Covid Inquiry begins examining the Covid crisis in care homes today.

On Wednesday Matt Hancock will appear.

@ilovesooty I am really shocked by that, I would have thought that the priest would have had to consult the bishop before taking that step. It will be interesting to see whether a statement is made by the bishop’s office.

I’m not a Catholic, but I am fairly sure that it would not be permissible for a Catholic to choose an assisted death. I think it could be argued though that an MP should be able to vote for the wishes of his constituents rather than in line with Catholic policy.

cardibach · 30/06/2025 14:45

Further splitting the Tory/Reform vote I hope.

PickAChew · 30/06/2025 14:58

I wonder what the Daily Express thinks of them? 😂

The name makes me think of toothpaste. Campaigning for whiter teeth. Not brown ones like that there Nigel.
