It seems to help with everything. Is there anything it can’t do? I feel like it will be life changing

OP posts:

It's shit at maths and it makes stuff up. Don't trust it.

Darker · 21/06/2025 12:53

Once AI relies on AI for its sources it will implode.

SirEctor · 21/06/2025 14:02

Don't ask it factual questions if you want an accurate answer - that's really not what it's for. Some people are using it as a sort of Google alternative and it can't do this. It will compile things from other places on the internet and use them to generate something that 'makes sense' and 'looks right' but may well be inaccurate. It will even generate false citations, literally citing papers that don't exist.

It can be useful for a lot of things - like summarising or rewriting a text you already have - but no it can't do everything.

Swirlframe · 21/06/2025 14:05

I like it for helping with the language and making something I've written (that I know to be factually correct) more interesting to read.

I've also used it to help polish the language and check the grammar in a job application and was very impressed, but I wouldn't trust it with anything I couldn't check, and I always tweak it before using the output, but it does save a lot of time.

cyvguhb · 21/06/2025 14:05

Where have you been, how have you just heard of chat gpt 😂

Goldenmemories · 21/06/2025 14:05

It can't draw pictures or graphs, just gives you code.

Ilikewinter · 21/06/2025 14:09

I uploaded a photo of the hall and it gave me some cracking ideas on how to decorate it - have seen tons of people's garden makeover photos to

Jumpthewaves · 21/06/2025 14:09

I've had it generate some great interior design ideas for me and mock up images, which has been really helpful.

Ilovemyshed · 21/06/2025 14:14

It is massively bad for the environment too!

Raquelos · 21/06/2025 14:23

It's quite good at suggesting itineraries for holidays You can ask for an itinerary and say you like wine and hiking but not museums and it will provide ideas specific to that for you. You do have to check details but I find it to be a great starting point.

megatwat · 21/06/2025 14:25

I asked it about the Dreamliner crash, it did not know anything about it, said one had never crashed🙄

aredcar · 21/06/2025 14:28

Darker · 21/06/2025 12:53

Once AI relies on AI for its sources it will implode.

This is already happening I think, I saw an article about it recently. It said that only data before I think 2015 was classed as clean data. After that a lot of data is AI generated meaning AI will keep regurgitating AI info making it more and more unreliable

yestothat · 21/06/2025 14:29

I don’t understand what people are using it for?

I get wanting to find out about something, a date or a place ect but you can just Google that

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 21/06/2025 14:30

I use it to write fb updates for the guides and scouts. I can't do structure, grammer, tone combined in my second language.

Clingfilm · 21/06/2025 14:32

Is this the weekly suspiciously pro chatGPT thread?

yestothat · 21/06/2025 14:33

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 21/06/2025 14:30

I use it to write fb updates for the guides and scouts. I can't do structure, grammer, tone combined in my second language.

How does that work? How does it know what to write about unless you tell it?

Deliciousandnutrious · 21/06/2025 14:35

I used it to help me structure a week’s schedule that had work meetings all over the country work different presentations in different days. It also helped me sort a capsule wardrobe for the string of events.

atoo · 21/06/2025 14:38

yestothat · 21/06/2025 14:33

How does that work? How does it know what to write about unless you tell it?

You give it bullet points and it turns them into properly structured and formatted prose. It's even better if you give it examples of the sort of style and tone you want (like previous newsletters from the same organisation for example).

You do have to check that it hasn't made things up, but it can be a real timesaver even so. And very helpful for people whose written English isn't great.

WoahThreeAces · 21/06/2025 14:39

It can't make a picture of an elephant with no trunk

hoarahloux · 21/06/2025 14:42

It absolutely rots your brain. It starts with little things and before you know it you're using it for everything and becoming totally incapable of critical thinking, problem solving or independent thought.

It's a predictive text, not a search engine and not a fount of knowledge. It literally hallucinates things that don't exist, answers questions confidently incorrectly using sources that don't exist... It's terrible for the environment too. Avoid it completely.

Megifer · 21/06/2025 14:45

As pp's say it's very unreliable on some things, I've actually told it its been full of shit 🤣 it's very gracious tbf

I use it a lot for stuff like "content for a slide deck for a presentation/training session on XYZ" to start me off, and then I'll upload the content/notes and ask it to do me a handout to go with the deck and tweak it a bit, it's really useful for that type of thing I think, and designing forms etc.

657904I · 21/06/2025 14:46

Well first thing to do is edit the settings so your data isn’t used to train the model, it’s free for a reason

ninjahamster · 21/06/2025 14:47

Never used it!

LittlleMy · 21/06/2025 14:48

Ilovemyshed · 21/06/2025 14:14

It is massively bad for the environment too!

Yes - please try no to use it for every single thought or query you may have.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 21/06/2025 14:49

It's excellent for writing letters of complaint. You just enter some word vomit about who you're angry with and why, and it spits out a strongly worded letter. I've used it to get things resolved that were pissing me off but which I hadn't had the time or the energy to deal with.

You can also ask it to turn photos into paintings for greetings cards or line drawings for colouring in.
