Exactly what I always found odd - so many references to France and French names (Balmain, Boulevard Saint Michel, the Sorbonne, Sacha Distel!) in the song, so surely the backstreets of Paris would have made more sense!

Yes and she was based on a beautiful lady found drowned in the Seine River in Paris. They made a mask of her face to try to discover who she was - which became the face for Resuss Annie. Hence the “Annie are you ok?”

Have you heard the Sinead O’Connor version? You can faintly hear a baby crying. I think they threw their illegitimate baby off the Tallahassee Bridge, and Billie Joe couldn’t live with the guilt. That’s why at the end when she’s talking about what’s she’s doing now she says she spends a lot of time up on Choctaw Ridge, throwing flowers off the Tallahassee Bridge
